Perfect Sesame Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2008
WOW! I am eating this sesame chicken right now, and it is truly delicious. I am so happy to have found a sesame chicken recipe that is actually BETTER than the Chinese restaurant varieties I have had in the past. I didn't change anything about this recipe, and it is great.

Fried Rice with Cilantro

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2008
YUM! I'm eating this rice right now, and it is soooooo good! The only change I made was omitted the chicken (I made sesame chicken to go with the rice), and added a fried egg and broccoli. It is great with the green onions and cilantro!

Viva Madrid Spanish Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2008
Holy cow, this is SO good! I made it tonight for dinner, and I was praying that there would be leftovers for lunch tomorrow! I'm only giving it 4 stars because if I had made the recipe exactly as stated, it would have been bland. My suggestions are to (at least) double, if not triple the amount of spices that you use. I used about 6 cloves of garlic, a tablespoon of garlic powder, 1/4 tablespoon of chili powder, and a tablespoon of ground thyme. I also seasoned the flour that I used to dredge the chicken. In order to avoid any texture problems (boyfriend doesn't like "chunks" of onions), I did the 10 minute simmer on the sauce, then strained w/ a slotted spoon into my food processor. After a few spins, I put it back into the pan and continued on. This made the sauce slightly thicker than I imagine the actual recipe result is. I also added the juice from a can of diced tomatoes, and used 1 Tablespoon of corn starch in cold water to thicken the sauce more. I served with plain rice--the sauce had enough flavor to stand alone!

Buttery Soft Pretzels

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2008
These pretzels are soooooooo good!!! I have tried several different pretzel recipes in the past, and the pretzels have always turned out like bricks. I was skeptical that the recipe would even turn out, but tried it anyway, and I am SO impressed with the results! I made the changes suggested by other reviewers and used only 4 cups of flour, and baked for 10 minutes at 400 degrees (hence the 4 stars). Great recipe!

Bahama-Mama Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2008
I made this recipe for dinner last night, and it was GREAT! I am a chronic multi-tasker, so the only change I made was after following the recipe, I put the pork chops and sauce in a baking pan in the oven uncovered for 45 minutes rather than cooking in the skillet. This allowed me to take care of other pressing things without worrying about burning dinner. =) I will definitely make this recipe again, but I think I'll tone down the tartness next time.

Chinese Napa Cabbage Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2008
The basic formula of this recipe was good, but I spruced it up quite a bit from the original (which is why I only gave it 3 stars). I absolutely loved the concept of flavors that this recipe involved, but it seemed like it was missing a few thing. Namely, meat and spices. There is no way that anyone in my household is eating a meat-free dinner, so I browned some ground chicken in advance, then toasted the ramen noodles, sesame seeds & almonds and added the ground chicken to the mixture. I cooked the ground chicken with a little soy sauce, garlic powder, 5-spice powder, and chili oil. I used the pre-made coleslaw mixture, and added about a cup of the mixture in with the chicken/almond/sesame seed/ramen and cooked for approximately 5 minutes to soften slightly. As far as the dressing, the recipe definitely doesn't call for enough (as nearly everyone else had mentioned), so I doubled the recipe, and also added garlic powder, ginger, and a touch of chili oil. I served the mixture on a bed of baby spinach mixed with the remaining raw coleslaw mix. Everyone loved this dinner!! I especially loved the crunch that came from the almonds and ramen noodles. Great basic recipe--I'm eating the leftovers now!
