About this Cook
I'm a very petite, 20-something redhead. I've learned most of what I know about cooking from my petite, 50-something brunette mom. I took a few cooking classes in high school, and have been experimenting here and there since then.
My favorite things to cook
Stir fried veggies & tofu or pork, vegetables tempura, fried rice, easy desserts, breakfast foods
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom's roast beef with carrots and potatoes in delicious brown gravy, spanish rice and stuffed peppers, and pasta salads
My cooking triumphs
I've perfected my own version of "pink stuff" and I'll post the recipe here.
My cooking tragedies
One time when I was much younger I tried to make a vanilla cake for my brother's birthday, but it didn't rise, so we had "vanilla brownies." Everybody seemed to like them though, oddly enough.

Little Meat Loaves
Tasty little things... followed to the letter except for halving the recipe and making smaller portions (45 minutes was perfect for cooking 1/4 lb loaves) and adding in some Mexican 3-cheese blend instead of all the parmesan. Also tried the suggestion of putting them on a wire rack in a baking pan... no grease! Served with broccoli and biscuits. They were a hit with my hard-to-cook-for husband. We're looking forward to having the leftovers for lunch tomorrow, even!

Zippy Shepherd's Pie
Delicious! I'd say this rivals the shepherd's pies I've had in Irish restaurants, and the flavors from the curry reminded me of moussaka that I've had at Greek restaurants. I made my curry powder from scratch, with almost every spice you can find in "curry powder ingredients" if you google it... heavy with turmeric, ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, garlic and cumin. Not "spicy" but oh so flavorful.

Spumoni Chocolate Chip Cookies
Yummy, bright and fun cookies! I cut back the amount of chocolate chips and pistachios but otherwise followed the recipe. They are somewhat floury so next time I would omit the last 1/4 cup flour or add a couple teaspoons of cooking oil. The maraschino cherries and pistachios were the stars, I think!
