About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I'm more of a baker than a cook, and I love to make bread. In terms of cooking, on a day to day basis I love to make simple things, like stirring whatever I happen to have on hand into pasta, ( affectionatley known in my household as "stuff in a pot"). However, I do like to experiment and make special things from time to time.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother's side of the family is Mexican, so of course I love to cook the food. On my dad's side of the family my grandmother's dinners are legendary. expecially the spaghetti with meat sauce. My Grandpa also has a blueberry farm, so blueberries are dear to my heart. It also can't be a holiday without my family's famous Dilly Bread.
My cooking triumphs
I make a mean loaf of braided french bread.
My cooking tragedies
I was experimenting with a recipe for chicken strips for the national chicken cook off, and my oil was too hot. The chicken was black on the outside, and raw on the inside.

Baked Honey Nut Chicken
This was very tasty! A great way to add some variety to the way we have chicken for dinner! I made a few adjustments based on what I happened to have on hand. This means that I used almonds, buckwheat honey, and crushed Kix cereal!

Catherine's Pickled Blueberries
This was amazing! I had a little leftover after canning and I mixed it into some plain yogurt. It was the best yogurt I've ever had. I definitely need to make another and bigger batch!

Microwave Popcorn
This is so easy and good I feel like companies that sell microwave popcorn are ripping people off! We are never buying it again! You can even customize the seasoning for individuals. I seasoned mine with salt and Old Bay before I popped it, and my husband put in a little cayenne pepper in his own bag. I can't wait to do this over and over again!
