Sometimes I Wonder...

Hi!  If you’re a returning reader, thanks for stopping by again!  If this is your first time to my blog, welcome!!  I hope you enjoy being here and want to come back again sometime :-)

This morning I woke up wondering about something and I realized that there are actually a lot of things I wonder about.  I thought it would be fun if we could share the things we wonder about.  So, without further ado, here are some of mine.  The first one is the one I woke up wondering about:

Sometimes I wonder…

~Why, on Monday through Friday, does my 5:45 a.m. alarm fight to keep me awake, usually requiring several pushes of the “snooze” button before my eyes are permanently open for the day, but on Saturday (the ONLY day I can sleep in!) my eyes pop open at 5:30 a.m. and refuse to remain closed for even one more minute??

~Why does my cat want nothing to do with me until I sit down to do something that requires all of my attention (computer work, read a book, etc) and then suddenly he’s desperate for attention and BOTH of my hands must be petting him at the same time??

~Why can my neighbor poke a seemingly dead piece of a branch in the ground, then totally ignore it, and it grows into a beautiful flowering bush, but no matter how much TLC I give to my flower bed, everything dies?

~Why is it that a store that “always” carries an item I “never” need will suddenly be sold out of that item for weeks on end when I DO finally need it??

~Why can I have a terrible craving for a food and I will travel quite a distance to get it (or perhaps spend hours cooking it), then once I’ve got it I no longer want it, but crave something else instead??

~Why does the library always have the book I’m thinking about reading until I go to check it out, and then there’s a waiting list for it with 10 people ahead of me??

And now for the biggest one:

~Why do my children suddenly decide they don’t like a type of food right after I’ve bought an entire year’s supply of it because it was on sale for a really great price?

Okay, now it’s your turn!  What do you sometimes wonder about?

I wonder the same thing about getting up in the morning - even tho' we're retired, it's strange how hard it is to get up for church or an early appointment where as this a.m. I was up at 6:30 with no effort at all.

Aug. 21, 2010 6:45 am
I also wonder why people can't see MY point of view as the best ideas....LOL

LOL! Yes, I sometimes wonder about that myself ;-)

I wonder how I can go to the store and come home with a hundred dollars worth of groceries but still don't have enough to complete a meal.

Aug. 21, 2010 6:58 am
Keri, "Sometimes I wonder" is the best I've read in all the blogs. Here's mine; I wonder why there's never enough time of the day to get everything done so you won't have to repeat them through out the week!

Aug. 21, 2010 7:00 am
...and another thing, How is it that the ingredient I ALWAYS have in my pantry is suddenly gone when I'm ready to use it? Seems that there is a black bean thief in the neighborhood.

I can't agree with you more, on ALL of those!!! And one of the main things, is a lot like with you and your cat, with being: Why is it my kids never need me until I go to my room to have some quite time? And then all of them need me at the same time???

Aug. 21, 2010 7:01 am
LOL Joan - me too!

I wonder how I got to be 47 and still feel 16? ;-)

Or, I wonder why I can sleep in until 10:00 at my house, after going to bed at 9:00, or go to someone else's house and go to bed at 12:00 and wake up at 6:00?

Aug. 21, 2010 7:03 am
I wonder why people drive past the local egg ranch to buy eggs at Albertson's at twice the price. (BTW- with this egg recall business is booming at the egg ranch.)

Aug. 21, 2010 7:04 am
Years ago we didn't have a KFC in our area and we would drive 25 miles to the closest one. I wonder why it never tasted as good as we thought it would.

Hello, friends. I wonder why my preshrunk clothing really isn't? I have to hang dry all my tops...or it's flying right into the Goodwill bag.

@Joan – Yes! I can definitely relate to that one! OR…I’ll go to the store and come home with $100 worth of groceries, but I still forgot the ONE item I went to the store to buy in the first place LOL!! **** @luv2cook – Thanks for the awesome compliment! I also wish there were more hours in the day :-) **** @swchef – I have that problem, too, except I usually find the missing ingredient after I’ve just bought a new supply of it. I have at least a decade worth of cinnamon in my cupboard now because of that LOL! **** @Nancy Hilton – for me, the kids never need my attention until I am on the toilet! **** @WFDM – Me too! I’m almost 38, but I still feel like a teenager (well, mentally at least). **** @Nancy Hilton (again, lol) – I have the opposite problem. When I go visiting, I want to go to bed early and sleep late! **** @Baking Nana – I wish we had an egg ranch near me! Fresh eggs are the bomb!! **** @swchef (also again, lol) – I think it’s like Christmas morning after all the gifts are unwrapped. After all the anticipation of getting there and the excitement of FINALLY having what you wanted, the end result is kind of anticlimactic. **** Hi Maggi! – You’re SO right on that! I am constantly thankful that WalMart will accept returns on clothing that has severely shrunk the first time it’s washed. Most other stores won’t do that. **** These are great, everyone! Keep ‘em coming!!

I wonder why my children request a certain dish for breakfast/lunch/dinner and then don't eat it ~~I wonder why of all the places that would be easier to clean to my children ALWAYS get sick on my couch lol ~~I wonder why when I have nothing to do nobody needs any help but as soon as my plate is full everybody and their brother wants/needs me to do something for them. ~~I wonder why my ex husband insists on feeding our kids and himself Mcdonalds once a week and then complains about how he's not losing weight :/ ~~Good grief, i'm afraid I could go on all morning. lol

Aug. 21, 2010 7:37 am
Hi Keri! Nice blog :) I wonder how my husband can fast for 30 days (ramadan) and go up to 16 hours without food, water, or brushing his teeth, but 30 minutes after eating, I am thinking about food again :) And I wonder why when my mother asks me what I want her to bring to Turkey I struggle to think of anything, but as soon as she is here I think of loads of things she could have brought over for me.

Keri
Aug. 21, 2010 7:39 am
@ZOPOOH - I totally hear you about the kids getting sick in unwanted places! Mine always seemed to puke either on the carpet (REALLY a pain to clean up) or right beside the toilet. Seriously? They couldn't move three inches to the left and puke IN the toilet??? LOL! I guess your mom forgot to tell you that we mothers NEVER get to eat hot food ;-)

Keri
Aug. 21, 2010 7:41 am
@rachmaree - Wow! Your husband has incredible self control. I struggled to fast for ONE day when my church sponsored a hunger fast to raise money for World Relief. I can definitely relate to your second one! I have a friend who's visiting Hawaii right now. She asked if there was anything she could bring for me and the only thing I could think of was pineapple and Spam LOL! Once she was gone, I thought of a huge list of things! Thank goodness she took her cell phone with her!!

I wonder how I can love or dislike a particular food item - and you don't feel the same?

NancyH
Aug. 21, 2010 7:55 am
Keri, That's also exactly what happens to me, I just thought I wouldn't post that, and be polite :) When they come banging on the door, I say, "Is it possible for me to NOT be interuppted when I go to the bathroom? Once? You know, there was once a time where I could go and not be interuppted!!!"

Keri
Aug. 21, 2010 8:01 am
@Maggi - That's a good one! I do wonder how anyone can possibly like coconut or maple flavored anything, and I also wonder how in the world someone could NOT like fish, shrimp, crab, etc. **** @Nancy - Yep, that's exactly what I'm talking about LOL!

Funny blog! You've all already said mine!

Aug. 21, 2010 8:23 am
Sorry to be seriously profound: I wonder about why is it so hard for couples to stay together for a lifetime. Something to do with loyalty between 2 people, tolerance, patience, attention, and genuine affection (not to mention committment). Are these values the glue that make it work?

Aug. 21, 2010 8:32 am
Yes, Maureen AND definitely a sense of HUMOR!

Aug. 21, 2010 8:36 am
I wonder why when I watch/count my calories it is the hubs that looses the most weight?! Without even trying? Humph! :/

Aug. 21, 2010 8:41 am
I wonder who lets in all the little gnomes who do things like take socks and clothes out of the drawers and throw them all over the bedrooms - or knock off all the pillows on the couches to the floor, leave kitchen cabinet doors open and why oh why do they sneak in and empty all the toilet paper rolls..... leaving me the empty ones? Seriously WHO is letting them in cuz it sure isn't the kids doing all this- they SWARE it isn't ------- LOL

Keri
Aug. 21, 2010 9:24 am
@Maureen - Yes, I wonder about that, too. It's sad that "till death us do part" doesn't mean anything anymore. **** @WFDM - You have a "Not Me Ghost" in your house, too? I'm so glad I'm not the only one!!

Aug. 21, 2010 9:51 am
Keri, I love this blog and others ahve all ready covered most of my "Iwonders". Very interesting.

Aug. 21, 2010 9:52 am
And I wonder why I don't proof read my typing before I hit post!!!

Aug. 21, 2010 12:47 pm
@Keri, Yeah, how rare it is for someone to shoulder the blame with no grudge. I think of my own father who was an example of tolerance and patience. Not so much the giver of attention. A mystery to me.

Aug. 21, 2010 1:14 pm
Love this blog, Keri! You've hit the nail on the head with the kitties. Mine are "busy" all day long and keep me company when I'm doing things but the second I collapse on the sofa they are one me like skin. And YES they must be petted with both hands. Sheesh. And why am I the only one getting older in this marriage and my hubby can be 12 forever? I swear....

Aug. 21, 2010 3:39 pm
I wonder why I always get in the wrong line at the checkout in the store?

Aug. 21, 2010 4:33 pm
I wonder why dirt only gets tracked IN the house. Why doesn't it ever get tracked OUT of the house?

Aug. 21, 2010 5:29 pm
I wonder why the grocery store clerk never fails to say to me, "Did you find everything?" I really just want to say to her, "Thank God you asked! Because, no, I didn't. Can you hold my place in line while I go get a package of balloons?"

Aug. 21, 2010 6:48 pm
I wonder why people take up entire aisles at the grocery store and don't seem to notice when you're trying to get around them with your cart. Then I wonder why people get so angry at the store and take it out on other people. I wonder why just when I get to the good part in a movie or tv show the phone rings and interrupts it.

Aug. 22, 2010 5:47 am
I wonder where the time goes when I am only just checking a recipe on AR ;)

Aug. 22, 2010 6:30 am
As school is just about to start, I often wonder how my 10 year-old can lose so many things in the bottom of his bookbag. I wonder why my children wait until the very last minute to even mention that a paper needs signed, or they need 2 dozen cookies baked for school. I wonder why my kids (and DH) seem t think I know where everything is when they are the ones who've lost it. There are a lot of things I wonder about. Now you've really got me wondering! Oh, and that recipe thing apple.strudel mentioned? I wonder that all the time!

Aug. 22, 2010 8:11 am
I wonder just where in my apartment that wrteched camera is hidden. I can be in all day with absolutely NO interruptions, but just as soon as I go to the WC, or step into a bath, then the phone rings.

Aug. 22, 2010 8:54 am
I wonder why I eat the same things I have always ate and all of a sudden I can't stop gaining weight. To top it off, I am working harder than I have in years, with a very, very physical job. On my feet for a solid 8 hours, not even a chair to sit in. You would think that at 49, that it takes MORE physcial effort to do the things I did with ease in my twenties, so I would be burning more calories now because it is physically harder to do it. Nope. Menopause is mean!

Aug. 22, 2010 9:39 am
I'm wondering why I just ate leftover chicken and chocolate cake for breakfast.

Aug. 22, 2010 9:43 am
Absolutely great blog, Keri!! I wonder why each and every time my husband will take an opposing side to any topic of conversation or idea I bring up. But then by some miracle, my idea or statement comes out of his mouth a short time later as if it's his own!!!!

Aug. 22, 2010 9:46 am
I wonder why no one else in the house can ever remember how to change out the empty toilet paper spool for a new one... but most of all, I wonder how come when you go to a class reunion, everyone else has aged but you?

Joan
Aug. 22, 2010 9:49 am
One thing I no longer wonder about is how many licks it takes to finish a tootsie pop! 264 until the candy coating is gone and 428 until the candy coating and chocolate is gone! Yes, I did that experiment myself!

Aug. 22, 2010 9:59 am
Why can 12,000 other AR cooks make a recipe and have it turn out fantastic, and when I make the same recipe it tastes terrible? Great idea for a blog, Keri!

Aug. 22, 2010 10:27 am
I'm also wondering why my daughter needs the worlds most expensive calculator for Algebra II?? Just what are they going to be doing in that class?

Aug. 22, 2010 10:29 am
Great blog, Keri! I wonder all the same things. I also wonder why my four kids can step right over an empty wrapper on the kitchen floor, and when asked why they didn't pick it up, will all say "I didn't see it," yet they can spot the last Oreo on the top shelf of the pantry from the other side of the room? Selective vision, I guess.

Aug. 22, 2010 10:33 am
@Jammin' Bread, so true! I had the same reaction to the supplies needed for algebra (8th grade). Also wondered why I had to pay a $25 "supply" fee for my daughter's art class, then got a foot long list of supplies I needed to buy for her.

Aug. 22, 2010 10:48 am
JAMJMine, Lol!! I'm tired of school supplies already and we haven't even bought any! My two girls decided they needed a binder for each class, ha! Let's see 14 binders, a million pens, pencils, sharpies, highlighters, and, oh yeah, that calculator!!

Aug. 22, 2010 11:05 am
Why is it every problem that needs to be solved but hasn't been always boils down to, "We don't have the money." Why don't I have a job? I can't afford the car to get to school, to get a job, to buy a car! Argh!

Aug. 22, 2010 11:07 am
why there is hateful, mean and/or sarcastic people?

Aug. 22, 2010 4:15 pm
I wonder why i have kept the same house for 38yrs. why i have kept the same job for 33 years have kept the 2nd husband for 15 years. But i am thankful every day that i have these things..

Aug. 22, 2010 4:42 pm
Ha! all true no doubt....I wonder why when i'm broke i can make 20 bucks last all week, then get paid and that same 20 won't last through lunch! Also being a mailman i wonder, why does every dog want a bite of me??? or why do people say "stay dry" when its pouring rain and i'm soaked! lol good stuff. I liked this blog, nice job : )

Aug. 22, 2010 5:34 pm
I wonder why when I was younger than 20, there were 32 hours in a day. Now that I'm older ;) there's only 11 hours in a day. I wonder why hubs can take a nap on the sofa and not one inkling of a snore. Nope, he saves that for the middle of the night! I wonder why when I'm offering my dog a treat she runs butt over ears to get to me and when I call her, with the same voice so I can bathe her, she hides from me! I wonder why when I cook just enough for the two of us, hubs is wanting some of the non-existant leftovers and when I have enough leftovers to feed half the county, he has lost interest. And, speaking of rain..way back when I had a clothesline I wonder why it didn't rain until I hung something out to dry, or when I washed my car, or, when I watered the lawn for hours or, left my umbrella at home?!? Ya done good, Keri, as always!

Aug. 22, 2010 5:43 pm
I wonder why it is that every time I find the perfect shade of lipstick it gets discontinued...

Aug. 22, 2010 6:07 pm
I have to agree with mimosa about lipstick.....makes you want to stock up and keep a box of them in the fridge!

Aug. 22, 2010 6:46 pm
...and bras, Mimosa! They always discontinue the TNT model that I find.

Aug. 22, 2010 6:48 pm
Great blog Keri. I wonder why crazy glue doesn't stick to the inside of the tube. Mag

Aug. 22, 2010 9:03 pm
I've been wondering lately, if the little things you decorate cakes with are called non-pareils (aka 100's and 1000's), what are pareils?

I often wonder how my 2 active teenagers 14 and 17 yrs( boy and girl) can open the fridge more than 20 times a day,not always eating mind you, and appear just as hungry everytime even after they've just eaten breakfast lunch or dinner! Its like, where does it all go?!

Wow...GREAT responses everyone! Sorry I didn't get back to reply to everyone personally. BUSY weekend, but full of fun because our fair opened on Friday. I hope everyone's having a wonderful Monday so far and that your week just continues to get brighter :-)

Aug. 23, 2010 7:42 am
Did anyone wonder why...your cat always runs to the rug to vomit instead of doing it on the tile? Sorta like ZOPOOH kids throwing up on the couch!

Aug. 23, 2010 10:11 am
I wonder why dogs hate it when you blow in their face, yet they stick their head out car windows?

Aug. 23, 2010 12:04 pm
I wonder why the bugs always hit the windshield at the PRECISE spot I need to look through! Never fails...especially when I've got a sparkling clean windshield

Aug. 23, 2010 12:06 pm
I also wonder (a lot) about why it is I can be there laying on the couch and can't keep my eyes open for nothin'...so I go to bed. Only to lay there and lay there. Unable to sleep!

I wonder why it never rains until I invite 25 kids over for a backyard birthday party. Seriously, I can't even depend on a drought.

Aug. 23, 2010 3:09 pm
I wonder why my mind and my body are not the same age. They were born on the same day.

Aug. 23, 2010 7:16 pm
great blog, Keri! i wonder why my picky DH will fall in love with one of my meals (a rarity) and the next time i prepare it, he says he never wants it again. but then a few months later he says again he wants the meal. one never knows =(

Aug. 23, 2010 7:36 pm
I wonder how the weeks go so fast, when all week long, I'm hoping the weekend will come sooner. Great blog, Keri!

I wonder why my husband hasn't figured out that a laundry basket has been purposely put there so he can deposit his clothes IN the basket, not around it. I really need to take a picture of what I found this morning. A perfect circle of clothing, surrounding his laundry hamper. It's a good thing he's off to work today, otherwise he'd be in deep caca! :)

I wonder where all the great cooks/friends go when they now longer are on AR? I miss so many people who used to be on and share our day. But, I am thankful there are always new ones who come along and make us laugh!

Why is it that every time I wear my leather sandals it rains? No matter how sunny it is when I leave! Then I slide right out of them.

I wonder who the "ghost" is at my house that leaves the cabinet doors open, or allows the garbage to over flow, or leaves dishes on the coffee table or a 1/2 a can of soda on the counter. When I ask the obvious suspects all I hear is "it wasn't me".

Aug. 25, 2010 7:02 pm
Why is it that my husband must put his dirty tools in my clean spot? Then once I clear the path again he clutters it up again? And I agree with the lipstick! And jeans.

My curiosity: why does there seem to be a cosmic signal on my backside that transmits exactly when I have sat down (only for a breather, never when I am at my desk working? Exactly 5 seconds after sinking into a cushion, the dog needs to go out, the dryer buzzes, or the doorbell rings! Truly one of the great mysteries of my life!

Aug. 25, 2010 7:33 pm
I wonder why it feels like my air conditioner works all day, but then when I lay down to go to bed, I'm burning up... and no, I'm only 23, so it's not menopause!

Aug. 25, 2010 8:07 pm
I wonder why I can't remember what I went into that room for until I get back into the room I came from!

Ponytail Goddess, It could be. See your doctor SOON! I wonder where all my time goes until I remember the time I spend on the computer!

Aug. 26, 2010 4:27 pm
I also wonder why is it that you never see a dead bear? or smell one? I mean I've spent a bit of time in the woods in the mountains and I have seen live bears but never a dead one. And everyone I know that lives in the mountains and were raised there have never seen or smelled a dead bear either nor have their firends. So what happens to the bear!

Aug. 26, 2010 4:28 pm
Poney tail I've been that way since I was 12 and now I'm much older and I stay hot. I want to live in an ice box and I'm not going through menopause even though due to my age my peers think I'm but my doc's say no.

Aug. 26, 2010 4:34 pm
I wonder why people think I have to be reachable. Call my house and I don't answer, then call my cell phone, if I don't answer that then i will get a text asking me why I am not answering my phone. Because I'm driving, bathing, eating watching my favorite tv show, the baby is sleeping, I'm reading a book, on Ar or don't want to in general. I also wonder if God purposely made a woman's voice in a pitch that men cannot hear. All three of my boys will say "huh" within a second of me saying something, even if they are looking right at me when I say it. I wonder why people cannot be on time. I am a mother of two boys ages 8 and 2. If you know you have to be somewhere at say 3 and it takes you X amount of time to get ready not including travel time then common sense dictates you start preperations that much earlier. I know sometimes there are circumstances that are beyong your control but really. If you have to be given a time 15-60 minutes prior to the actual start time to ensure you will arrive on time you have a serious problem.

@bakingnana - I wish the egg ranch near me was less expensive than the grocery store! The one near me charges $5-$6 per dozen.

I wonder why a vacuum cleaner isn't just called a pushy-sucky. I push it and it sucks!

Oh, and I wonder why they call them fun sized candy bars when what would really be fun is a candy bar the size of my house. With a swimming pool full of ice cream. Yep, now THAT would be fun.

I wonder why I didn't think of all the things previously written? And I DEFINITELY wonder about that grocery store thing ... spend a fortune/don't have enough for tonight's dinner. I wonder why my husband looks 10 years younger than he is, but I sure don't? I wonder if everyone writing/reading this post will have a great Friday? Hope you do!

I wonder why as soon as I get on the phone, does world war 3 break out with my two kids?

ROFL! These are great! @Puck - I sat here laughing so hard I had tears rolling down my face at your idea of fun-sized candy bars :-) You got that one exactly right!! **** @RLOGAN01 - I love your one about the pitch of a woman's voice! **** @Lissacooks - I have that same ghost in my house!!! We call it the "Not Me Ghost" :-)

I've always wondered why "monosyllabic" isn't. LOL On another note, a month after you did the cabbage soup diet, would you still recommend it? I'm thinking of starting it too, but not if it ultimately proves to be unhelpful....

I wonder why when I wake up in the morning I have aches and pains, and all I did is sleep in a perfectly good bed. What happened to the good ole days when I got up refreshed??? LOL

I wonder why I hate my birthday. (Nothing to do with age, I am only 29) And I wonder why even though I told my husband not to buy me a present or make any fuss, that I STILL felt disappointed on the day! I have hated celebrating my birthday since I was 21, which was actually really enjoyable. Trying to think what happened the next year... I had to add that one as you started this blog on my birthday!

This absolutely made my day!! Laugh out loud funny!! I wonder why my husband can lay on the couch doing nothing while I'm washing dishes, doing laundry, picking up the house, etc. etc. and when the kids need something they ask for "Mom"!?! Hello, Dad is on the couch doing nothing...ask him!! And why, oh why, are mothers the designated holder of all things!?!

@Christmas Joy - YES! BUT...remember to check with your doctor first. I'm actually planning to do it again in a week. I have to wait until a payday weekend so I can buy all the ingredients plus stock up on fruits and veggies for the eating plan, so next weekend I'll make the soup again and start the plan the following Monday. I know, I'm insane to start on a holiday, but my family's not doing anything special that weekend, so it'll be easy enough ;-) **** @rachmaree - Happy belated birthday!! I hope you start to enjoy them more and more.

I wonder why people think I'm strange that I don't answer the door. If I don't know you, and I'm not expecting you, I'm not opening the door. It's my house and I don't have to! We don't have to answer the phone, so why do I have to answer the door?

Great blog Keri; I often wonder why when I send my grandkids to their room to find shoes,or toys, or whatever their heads never tilt down, but always upward. Do your kids store their stuff on the ceiling too?

I wonder why, when my husband loses something, he always asks me if I know where it is before looking for it himself? Luckily, I've developed the habit of making a mental note when I see his hat, cell phone, wallet or keys somewhere? Also, (while I'm on the subject), I wonder why he doesn't just put all that stuff in one spot all the time? Then, we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place. :) Great blog!

I wonder why the fastest way to find something you lost is to buy a new one.

I wonder why my dog, who has allergies wait til we go to bed to start itching constantly and then make me get up with her only to find out she took my place in the bed. I wonder why it is that I can have a mental list of a few items I need at the grocery store and when I walk in the door I can't remember one thing on that list. How come the beautiful sunsets amaze us so now that we are getting older (50's)?

Love this blog Keri:-).... Here are my I wonders..... Why is it that when the kids or husband loose something they expect me to look for it! And when I get up to look it's right infront of my face !!! I also wonder why on my days off I'm running around like a chicken with my head cut off kids doctor appointments, school meetings, groceries, bills etc, then on DH's days off he gets to nap and lounge! On the tiny notion that he has to take care of something like the car brakes or a repair I hear about it for months! I also wonder why when I do have the opportunity to nap or sleep, the road crew decides to fix our road or I hear the law mower etc!! Why is it that when you are broke the car decided to break down!

silla, you are so right. Just decided we need to cut back on spending and sure enough the car had to go to the shop yesterday. Now I am waiting for the plumber! Go figure.....

I wonder what it is about the Y chromosone that causes vision problems in all males as they are unable to see that the kitchen & laundry room trash cans are full & flowing onto the floor. This is usually accompanied by the inability to lift the bag, tie it & carry it out to the garbage can.

I wonder why I will ask everyone are you hungry at least 5 times & no one wants anything to eat. I make a sandwhich, scramble an egg, a piece of toast & jelly or a bowl of cereal and all of a sudden "wow that looks good" "ummm that smells wonderful" "gee can I have a bite". Yeah sure give me your arm.

@grammaluvscookin - YES! My kids store their stuff on the ceiling, too LOL! **** @Cindy - I have the same problem with the mental list, and it's usually only two or three things on the list, but I can't remember a dang one when I get to the store. **** @sillasmiles and mauigirl - You're SO right about things breaking down when you have no money. Thank goodness I've got parents who can still help me out in a pinch! **** @impaula1950 - Yep, that's my kids! Every single time I get myself something to eat, they've GOT to have a bite of it, or they're going to starve to death if I don't immediately get up and prepare some of the same thing for them. Here's what I do - I give them MINE and go make myself a fresh serving. That way THEY'RE the ones with the cold eggs or toast, the sandwich that's going stale, or the cereal that's starting to get soggy ;-)

I wonder how $100 worth of groceries can seem like so much in the cart but fill less than 2 bags. I wonder how 2 huge bunches of kale can shrink down when I cook them to an amount that will only fill 3 calzones for dinner. And I wonder how a cold is always worse when it's a male who's suffering from it than it was when you spent a week working, cooking, etc. while having one! : )

I totally agree w. the lipstick thing. I also wonder why we are paying more for things but getting less? What's up with the cost of razors? It just doesn't cost that much to make them. I wonder how come my husband cooks and it looks like he's never been in the kitchen. I cook and it looks like world war II happened in there. I also wonder why I can't find a baked chicken recipe that will please my fried chicken lover who isn't supposed to eat fried anything. I wonder how teenage girls can put up with the guys who wear their pants around their knees? Surely they can't find that attractive? Finally, why can't my kitchen table stay cleared for longer than a day?

I wonder why when I only have enough money for sandwiches for lunch I have the most amazing ideas for recipies, but when I do have the cash to make said dishes I find myself not even wanting any of it.

I also wonder why I can't make the same dish tast the same way twice.:)

About Me
I have loved cooking since I was a young girl helping my mother make dinner or bake cookies during school vacations. My favorite class in elementary school was "Nutrition", because we cooked almost every day. I have two daughters who love cooking and baking as much as I do and my husband is even getting interested. He recently started making bread from scratch and he's doing an awesome job of it! We share our home with pets of all different kinds, including birds, cats, dogs, rabbits, a rat, snakes, frogs, a tarantula, and a turtle. We also provide foster care for a local dog rescue, taking in abused, neglected, abandoned dogs and giving them a safe, loving environment to live in until they find their "fur-ever" homes.
My favorite things to cook
Rosemary garlic roasted chicken with roasted garlic gravy; Skillet cabbage; Almost any baked goods; Anything I can make in my slow cooker! Somewhere around September 2008 I decided I was going to start baking all the bread my children and I eat. I'm COMPLETELy loving it and my kids like to brag that "my mommy MADE this bread!" Their favorite is when I make bread items that aren't your traditional loaf of bread, like hamburger buns, bagels, and soft pretzels.
My favorite family cooking traditions
For several generations, my father's family has made a "family tradition" dessert item at each major holiday. At Easter, it's Italian Cheesecake, made with ricotta cheese and anise flavoring (published as "Italian Cheesecake II", if you'd like to check it out). At Thanksgiving, it's "Roly Polies", which were invented by my great grandmother when she had leftover pie crust dough she needed to use up. My absolute favorite, though, is Christmas, when we make Birds Nests. These are made out of walnut-sized balls of a sweet pie crust type dough rolled out very thin. Then we cut slits in the dough without cutting through the edge, gather every other strip, twist them up into a jumble, and then deep fry the pastries. When they are cooled, we sprinkle them with powdered sugar. It doesn't matter how many we make, they all get eaten!
My cooking triumphs
I managed to make decorated sugar cookies for Christmas 2008 that turned out awesome!! I've NEVER gotten sugar cookies to turn out good looking enough to warrant decorating them. They always turn into shapeless blobs. This particular time I reduced the amount of butter in the recipe by 25% and chilled the cut-outs for 15 minutes immediately before baking them. They turned out beautiful!
My cooking tragedies
My first attempt at making Fairy Food candy (also called seafoam candy) was a disaster! I tried cooking it too quickly over too high of heat, so it burned, smelling up the entire house for DAYS. Thank goodness I still had enough ingredients (and courage!) to try again, and everyone at my family's Christmas gathering was impressed with my second attempt. I conveniently "forgot" to tell them about the first batch :-)
