Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2011
I couldn't agree more with the full five star rating! This is an amazing and simple to whip up recipe. There is no reason to ever buy box pancake mix again! The only change is I added a little but of pure vanilla to the recipe, which I recommend trying out. It gives a subtle creamy flavor to the pancakes. I seved mine with real maple syrup, homemade strawberry sauce, and homemade whipped cream.

Abbey's White Chocolate Latte

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2011
Awesomeness! This turned out very well for me! I used two squares of Baker's White Chocolate, used homemade vanilla syrup in place of the pure vanilla extract and added some homemade whipped cream to the top. I can taste a hint of the white chocolate in this recipe, excellent, and highly recommended!

Zucchini Pasta

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2011
I thought this recipe turned out well, however I made the vegetables using a different cooking method. Instead of boiling the zucchini, I just sauteed them in a pan with the olive oil, garlic, and onions as well as the spices while the water was boiling/cooking the pasta. I left out of red pepper flakes and served with some spicy red pepper marinara on the side.

Green Chili Grilled Cheese

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2011
I made mine using fresh whole wheat sourdough bread, lacey swiss and colby cheese and white american. I found some tasty chopped green chilies in the can from Trader Joes that I use. A great simple twist to a classic sandwich.

Southern Butter Rolls

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2011
What a bummer! The photos of this recipe look great, but following the directions and recipe exactly how it is written left me with non-fluffy, non-rising bread. I was skeptical adding cold water and not proofing the yeast in warm water and sugar first as most recipes require. I am not a pro bread maker, but I have made it enough so I am puzzled by this recipe's directions. :( The taste was good. :)

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2011
This recipe makes the perfect amount, not too much. The taste was great. I subbed butter for margarine since I don't buy that stuff. I softened the butter in the microwave and whisked it into the batter. It was a tad lumpy but in the end it melted into the batter when cooking.

Basil Puree

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2011
Quick and easy, yet tasty. This makes a very small amount and is perfect for add to slices of french or sour dough bread before I grill them. Also, this is great on pasta with or without marinara. Phil's suggestion of swirling it into tomatos soup is great. One of my favorite restaurants makes a hearty tomato soup and it is served with basil puree on top.

Pastry Cream

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2011
After eating at Extraordinary Desserts and tasting very elaborate cakes with mysteriously layers upon layers I figured out one of the layers was pastry cream. I decided to make my own similar cake at home and whipped this recipe up. The only difference is that I bake with liquid eggs so I used whole liquid eggs (1/2 cup) instead of dealing with egg yolks. Turned out perfect and didn't have to bring it to a boil the second time because it thickened up quickly so I just did a lot of whisking to ensure it stayed smooth.

Top Secret Apple Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2011
This turned out to be quite a delicious apple pie! I didn't have corriander, so I added some tasty cardamom spice instead and I didn't have enough pie dough for a top so I whipped up some streusel topping and added that to it before baking. The flavors of all of the spices were fantastic! I see some people were concerned about the amount of sugar in this recipe and I was too. I added it all in and I love this sweet spicy apple pie. This is a keeper!

Loving this recipe! Great fresh roasted veggies, this recipe is perfect to throw together quickly. I add a couple of red potatos.

Dianne's Roasted Potatoes and Carrots

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2011
Fantastic! Baking temperature and time were right on and I love red potatos and carrots! The only change I made was the herbs, I used basil instead of thyme and rosemary. I will be making this again very soon!

Ice Cream Sundae Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2011
Great basic recipe! I would have used vanilla but I was gifted with a quart of strawberry ice cream today so I used strawberry ice cream in this recipe. I skipped baking the Oreo crust but loved the homemade whipped cream for the top. It is a relief to find a recipe that calls for fresh cream rather than store-bought.

Caramel Apple Smoothie

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2011
Yikes......sorry but this has an unusual mix of flavors. I like caramel, apples, and peanut butter but combined it produces a puzzling flavor. At first it resembled apple cider vinegar but then there is a peanut butter after-taste. I scaled this recipe down to one serving using the servings calculator. I juiced my own apple and drizzled some caramel inside the glass before serving. I would not recommend this recipe...

Flavored Latte

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2011
Great basic recipe. I made mine into a caramel macchiato with caramel coffee syrup, whipped cream, and caramel drizzled on across the top. I put a fresh raspberry on top and it dropped to the bottom of my cup and the flavors released into the drink so it was a creamy caramel raspberry flavor.

Apple Topaz Candies

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2011
I found this to be quite the tasty treat! First let me say I had no problem making this and it wasn't messy at all. I made my own homemade caramel instead of using store-bought, but other than that I followed the recipe. I used Granny Smith Green Apples (two small apples) and found the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg spices to be divine in the homemade caramel sauce and nuts. Mine came out more like a "salad" meaning that I didn't have individual pieces of apple topaz candies. Next time I may try to make a thicker caramel sauce and drop of apple slice onto the wax paper sheet individually.

Gingerbread Latte

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2011
The recipe itself was fantastic. I buy the Archer Farms (Target brand) Gingerbread syrup. I don't agree with the assembly. Typically you wouldn't mix the syrup with the espresso - rather the syrup would be steamed and frothed with the milk then pour over the espresso.

My Mom's Apple Sauce Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2011
Delicious cake! I had to use up some unopening applesauce and decided upon this recipe. I cut it in half using the servings calculator. I decided to bake this in a small jellyroll baking sheet rather than a cake pan. The size sheet I used was a 12" x 8.5" I baked at 325 for 13 minutes. The only tweaking of ingredients I did was add additional cinnamon to the recipe.

Lazy Katie's Taco Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2011
You can't go wrong with this great basic for a quick lunch or for dinner. I substituted the beef for Madras Lentils which is a lentil, kidney bean, and tomato substitute for tacos. Instead of corn chips I crunch up taco shells. Excellent and quick lunch or dinner.

Peanut Ice Cream Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2011
You really can't go wrong with this ice cream pie and anyone could make this with rave reviews. I made my own crust which is simple to do with Oreo cookies and butter. I pressed the buttery Oreos crumbs into the bottom of a springform pan and set aside. I made homemade ice cream from this website using Vanilla Ice Cream IX. I will use a different vanilla ice cream next time, but vanilla ice cream with Reese's folded into it doesn't get any better. Don't forget the chocolate syrup and a dollop of whipped cream for the top. You can easily customize this recipe to suit your needs.
