Sprinkle Love

In my hometown of Dubuque, Iowa just a few blocks from the Mississippi River is a row of quaint shops on Main Street. One of them is called The Calico Bean Market and it is one of the places that I must visit each time I fly back to Iowa when visiting my family.

Here are a few things my mother and sister picked up for me and kindly sent me in the mail. I requested cardamon because I can get a nice size container of it in the $4 range whereas local grocery stores in Southern California it is priced at $18.

The family decided to pick me out some sprinkles to send in the box and they did a very good job. I always wanted the pig sprinkles since I grew up on a pig farm in Iowa and the blues of the glitter and sanding sugar match my kitchen colors perfectly!

I wanted to share some of the latest things I got from The Calico Bean Market. Their prices are amazing and a couple of fellow AllRecipes members now shop at The Calico Bean Market. They have a website just in case anyone was interested.

The blue pearlized sprinkles are my Wilton that I picked up yesterday at Michaels. They seem to be carrying a better variety of sprinkles and cupcake papers.

I went to school at UW- Platteville (about 100 years ago) and love Dubuque. I saw you post about The CB last Fall and have it on a list of fun things to do as soon as the weather becomes do-able again. I love that area of Dbq. Can't wait to go!!

Thank You! I LOVE what this store has to offer and I just posted a "thank you" to you on the buzz. I love the price and I could tell by the photos they are quality for a great price. I plan to place a big order. Around my area, the cost of cake/cookie decorating supplies is outrageous. I am so excited my boyfriend said for Valentines Day he'll let me choose whatever I want..LOL..thanks again! :)

Cyndi, I responded to your post and provided some links with photos of the store and other items that I previously bought from The Calico Bean Market and posted in August. Sometimes it helps to see what the actual store looks like and see some of the items up close in photos! They have a wide variety of spices, sprinkles, and more.

I love places like The Calico Bean and I'm always on the lookout for specialty stores that carry unique items. I saved the link and the next time I'm in the mood to do something fun, I'm going to check them out. Thanks for the info!

About Me
I am a Southern California wife and mother of one. I am a simple person that enjoys home decor, baking, and spending time with my family. You can also find me on YouTube - House of Aqua: http://www.youtube.com/user/HouseOfAqua/videos?sort=dd&flow=list&page=1&view=0
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy making a variety of ice cream, cookies, cakes, and candies. In recent years I have branched out by making new dinner recipes and found that I enjoy the challenge.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have a daughter that loves to help me bake. We spend Christmas Eve in the kitchen making special cookies for Santa together.
My cooking triumphs
I consider tempering chocolate and making caramels a triumph. You either get it right or your wrong!
My cooking tragedies
I failed several times at trying to make fondant centers for truffles. I decided to put my candymaking book away for a while!
