I love to visit this wonderful place in my hometown of Dubuque, Iowa. They are a great array of spices, sprinkles, sauces, and mixes. There is really so much more that you really need to experience the store in person. Luckily, there is a website that you can order from that I know a lot of the AllRecipes peeps would appreciate. The sprinkle section alone is very exciting. There is every color of peril, sprinkle, and sugar you would want. There are also many themed sprinkles to chose from as well.

I met the owner in August while visiting my family in Dubuque, Iowa and she mentioned they are currently working on updating the website that should be up in the near future. Below are some photos of my recent purchases that I want to share with you.

I have been looking for both the big hearts and the candy coated chocolate chips for a while. My daughter wanted Hello Kitty Cake Pops (Bakerella's website) for her birthday, but I could not find these anywhere. I am so glad you posted this! Thanks Kelly.

I love Bakerella, she is very creative. I make sure to check into her website once a week to see what is new! I think she has a Cake Pop Cookbook coming out soon. You can get the jumbo hearts and the candy coated chocolate chips on the Calico Bean website and they are cheap compared to anywhere else too. Is your daughter's birthday still coming up?

I saw the Cake Pop cookbook on Amazon for pre-order. I think it comes out next month. Unfortunately my daughter's birthday was in June:( But she will be very suprised if we just make them for no reason one afternoon. This will be fun when she is bored because her brother is back in school.

I will have to see if I can check that place out next time I'm in Iowa. My parents still live in Iowa City and we go down a couple times a year. I left a message for you on the exchange, but I'm not sure you got it. I just wanted to tell you that your Milky Way Icing is amazing! I made it for the bake sale and I found myself licking the bowl clean! I had to go to store and pick up some more candy bars so I could make it for hubby and me this weekend. Also, I saw on the blog "who are you?" that you mentioned you worked with aviation explosives in the military. My dad did the exact same thing when he was in the Air Force during Vietnam. He was stationed in Minot, ND, where he designed and built bombs. Very cool, I'm impressed!

What a wonderful store, oh I wish it was closer. Although may be on the other hand, I would spend far too much and time there! Thank you for posting, going to take a look at their website now.

MSC: that is neat. We have Penzey's Spices in Buffalo but I can see your spice store has more. also: a question about the Dark chocolate /cinnamon ice cream. ohhhhh!! wow. did you use an ice cream maker? It sounded like you don't need one...or is it easier, creamier using an ice cream maker?

I used my Kitchen-Aid Ice Cream Attachment. You can easily make ice cream without one. Here is a link that helped me to make ice cream before I got an ice cream maker: http://www.davidlebovitz.com/2007/07/making-ice-crea-1/

About Me
I am a Southern California wife and mother of one. I am a simple person that enjoys home decor, baking, and spending time with my family. You can also find me on YouTube - House of Aqua: http://www.youtube.com/user/HouseOfAqua/videos?sort=dd&flow=list&page=1&view=0
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy making a variety of ice cream, cookies, cakes, and candies. In recent years I have branched out by making new dinner recipes and found that I enjoy the challenge.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have a daughter that loves to help me bake. We spend Christmas Eve in the kitchen making special cookies for Santa together.
My cooking triumphs
I consider tempering chocolate and making caramels a triumph. You either get it right or your wrong!
My cooking tragedies
I failed several times at trying to make fondant centers for truffles. I decided to put my candymaking book away for a while!
