Kitchen-Aid Ice Cream Attachment

Recently, someone on the recipe exchange asked for recipe recommendations for ice cream so they could break out their ice cream attachment to make ice cream. I have been making ice cream with sweet success for the last couple of months. When I read the request, I was thinking about how I have been churning and freezing my ice cream without an ice cream maker. I mix with an electric hand mixer and freeze in 30 minute increments before taking out and mixing again. Eventually when I end up trying to mix my hand during the last step. I decided to search Craigslist after reading the recipe request for my own Kitchen-Aid Ice Cream attachment set.

I was fortunte enough that I found a brand new set in the box for $40 a few days ago. I made chocolate ice cream last night. After cooling the blended ice cream mixture completely, I took my freezer bowl out of the freezer and set it up. I turn on my Kitchen-Aid and began to pour the liquid mixture into the frozen bowl.

I checked on it about half way through and found I already have very creamy ice cream. I mixed for 20-25 minutes. The process is so much easier if you use an ice cream maker attachment. I would highly recommend getting one if you plan to use it.

Here is the recipe I used for my chocolate ice cream I made last night. I used only 2 egg yolks instead of three because that is what I made. I added some 99% cacao chocolate instead of the semi-sweet. I ended up with smooth and creamy custard like ice cream.<

That's awesome! I had no idea they made so many cool attachments for the Kitchen Aid- really eliminates the need for so many appliances. I bet it was divine with the dark chocolate :)

I found the ice cream attachment on Amazon for $59.00. Cheaper than Bed Bath and Beyond ($79). I've been saving ice cream recipes to my recipe box1 Thanks for the info Kelly:) Have a good weekend!

I didn't even know there was an ice cream attachement set for KA. This is perfect for summer. Your ice cream looks amazing!

Jessie, are you going to get one? It works very well. I like the chocolate ice cream recipe I used last night and try the cake batter ice cream recipe from this site too. They are my favorites so far. Let me know if you get one of these attachments and what you think! ~ Kelly :)

Very cool MSC. I love when you find good deals like that. I got my KA at Christmas time and haven't bought any attachments for it yet, but I would love to have this one. So, it takes 25 min to set up? How long did you freeze it for afterwards before you ate it then? I'm off to search Craigs List.

Love homemade ice cream. I have intentions of making some this week while on vacation. I had no idea you could make it with the kitchenaid!

Oooo I want one! I have an ice cream maker but it either sucks or I suck at making ice cream. Either way I want the KA one :) Your ice cream looks delicious!

I just want a pink or purple KA, period! If I could talk Bob into, all the cool attachments would be a necessity! I'm jealous!!

You have my favorite color (green)for a KA. I want one so badly. Trying to talk my husband into buying me one for Christmas. Thought if I started now...he might remember what I want by Dec...LOL. Guess now I'll have to ask for some of the attachments too...maybe for my Birthday in March??? I'm with WW...I'm jealous too!!!

Thanks Luvs2cook500! The color of my KA is Green Apple. I went many years without one, but they sure are nice to have, especially once you get one, you can't be without it. Thanks for stopping by! :)

I LOVE chocolate and ice cream-add a dollop of peanut butter and I would be in heaven. We have the old fashioned crank your arm off ice cream maker...RNGrampa turned a drill into a cranker-gotto love his imagination. This looks easy and maybe one day I will get one for my KA

Hi Kelly:) I bought the ice cream attachment yesterday! I can't wait for it to freeze so I can try it out. I think I am going to try the cake batter ice cream first. I'll let you know how it goes.

Jessie, that is great! I am really excited for you! Is it a Kitchen-Aid attachment or a different one? Please let me know how it works for you!

I got the KA attachment. I made Butter Pecan Ice Cream (not the cake batter yet, my hubby was poo pooing that idea) from this site. It worked great! The only issue I had was adding the pecans. The manual says add them 12-15 minutes in, but when I did this the mixer made an awful sound, as the nuts were getting stuck between the dasher and the bowl. Next time I'll stir them in myself at the end. But I am amking the cake batter tonight wether my husband likes it or not:P

Beautiful ice cream Kelly! I was just looking at different ice cream machines yesterday and was thinking about getting the KA attachment, but wasn't sure how it would work because it's so open on top. You talked me into it by your photos though, I'm going to go search Craigslist. Thanks! =)

I am a Southern California wife and mother of one. I am a simple person that enjoys home decor, baking, and spending time with my family. You can also find me on YouTube - House of Aqua:
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy making a variety of ice cream, cookies, cakes, and candies. In recent years I have branched out by making new dinner recipes and found that I enjoy the challenge.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have a daughter that loves to help me bake. We spend Christmas Eve in the kitchen making special cookies for Santa together.
My cooking triumphs
I consider tempering chocolate and making caramels a triumph. You either get it right or your wrong!
My cooking tragedies
I failed several times at trying to make fondant centers for truffles. I decided to put my candymaking book away for a while!
