Several Batches of Buttercream Later...

I recently threw a birthday party for my daughter's 4th birthday. The color theme was pink and brown. I was exhausted by the time the party started as it took me three days ahead of time to prepare.

Several batches of buttercream later, the party was ready and the guests began to arrive.

Below are the photos for your enjoyment. Here is what I made:

~ Lemon Buttercream Cake
~French Vanilla Cake /Milk Chocolate Ganache Filling
~White Chocolate Suckers using an "I'm 4" candy mould
~Cookie Dough Cupcakes
~Cake Batter Ice Cream
~Best Rolled Sugar Cookies and Sugar Cookie Ice Cream
~Marshmallow Fondant
~Best Lemonade

We ordered pizza and I prepared a large salad with cheese, croutons, red onions, and cherry tomatos. I made some homemade honey mustard and set out other oil based dressings we had.

I originally wanted to make two large chocolate chip cookie pizzas and sandwich buttercream between them, but a few days before the party I opted to make a cake. I prepared my marshmallow fondant ahead of time, but I ran out of time the day of the party to roll it out and cover the cake. I ended up making a lemon cake and a french vanilla with milk chocolate ganache cake, both which were covered in buttercream.

For favors, I ordered pink individual cupcake boxes which I placed cookie dough cupcakes in and sealed with a custom ordered sticker. I also ordered some pink and brown cellophane baggies to package the sugar cookies in. Next, I made the "I'm 4" white chocolate suckers using a candy mould. I also decided to re-wrap the sugar cones in matching pink and brown paper......that took a long time!

As some of you know, I like to order customer wrappers and labels on eBay to make each party special. It also helps to tie in the theme. I ordered candy bar wrappers and I wrapped Nestle Crunch Bars in them. I wrapped water bottles with new custom labels and I used custom matching stickers to seal the cupcake boxes.

I think the decorating stressed me out much more than the baking. I had a lot of pink and brown ribbon to string around and pink chinese lanterns to hang. The day of the party, I had to take a break from my baking to get the balloons blown up. I am happy to add that I had no balloon fatalities this year! Last year, half of the brown ones popped before the party began.

I hope you enjoy the photos! If you would like to see more photos from this party, I have them posted under my photos. I am limited to only eight photos per blog.

You are creating sweet memories for your darling little girl. I especially liked the pink flower petals on the cupcakes; reminded me of beautiful pink Dahlias. Your color combinations are so soothing and classic. Well done!

Holy cow Kelly! I can tell you're a lot like me. A total perfectionist. Everything looks fabulous!! Last year I tried to cover my daughter's B-day cake in fondant that was shortening based in 90 degree, humid weather. Needless to say, the cake looked like . I cried.

Your daughter will be able to tell her children what wonderful memories she has because you took the time to do things like this for her. Just lovely.

Donna, yes I picked a pink and brown theme last year and I decided to do it again this year with different foods and decorations. I will pick a different theme next year.

Just had to add that I absolutely loved the handmade outfit made to match Alexa's pink and brown theme party! Does she still ask to wear that dress often? So sweet...

Yes, she wears it. It is a dress/top with satin ribbons that tie at the top of the shoulder and matching bottoms that flare out around the ankle. There is a seller on eBay than hand makes them and they are wonderful. I try to purchase a new one each year to match her birthday party. They only run between $20-$28. Thanks for noticing Mrs. S! :)

You are the type of mom I aspire to be some day. Guess I'll have to have kids first right? I'll take any excuse I can find to make sweets which usually is when I go visit my parents and siblings in NY. I'm sure my brother doesn't eat anything I give him and my parents complain that I make them 'fat' That's how I know I did good. Beautiful theme.

My favorite things to cook
I enjoy making a variety of ice cream, cookies, cakes, and candies. In recent years I have branched out by making new dinner recipes and found that I enjoy the challenge.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have a daughter that loves to help me bake. We spend Christmas Eve in the kitchen making special cookies for Santa together.
My cooking triumphs
I consider tempering chocolate and making caramels a triumph. You either get it right or your wrong!
My cooking tragedies
I failed several times at trying to make fondant centers for truffles. I decided to put my candymaking book away for a while!
