Birthday Party Preparations and Cake Decisions

I am preparing for my daughter's upcoming fourth birthday party. We decided to do a pink and brown theme again this year, but I wanted to use different pink and brown decorations and designs.

I am still thinking about what I should make. We decided we would get pizza to eat, so that is taken care of. Last year we ordered a Cold Stone Creamery ice cream cake. It was large and we had wonderful leftovers to eat for the week following the party. This year I was thinking of making a giant cookie cake or a fondant covered cake.

The cookie cake would be two giant chocolate chip cookies and I plan to sandwich some buttercream between the two and then decorate the top. My only concern is being able to pick up one cookie so it doesn't break.

The second option was the fondant cake. I enjoy making marshmallow fondant and I enjoy making cakes. This would allow to me work on my fondant and decorating skills. I am unsure of which flavor of cake and fillings I would use. Any suggestions?

I have all custom made water bottle labels, wrappers, and sticker ready. I am making cupcakes to put into individual cupcake boxes as part of the favor.

Really nice and creative, love the colors! My kids always chose pizza for their birthday parties too. I like the cake idea better, your fondant cakes always turn out so beautiful. What is her favorite type of cake? Maybe she could give you some ideas. :)

I just love the colours you have chosen for the party. I really think you should bake the special cake, with your skills it seems a shame to just buy an ice cream cake. I think the fondant cake sounds just wonderful, you can have so much fun making that! Can't wait to see the end results...

Thanks for the help. I was thinking a white cake, but I am undecided about icing and/or filling. I was thinking of using a chocolate icing that Rhianna recommended.

You could do a strawberry cake with choclate frosting - it would match the party decor!

Maybe strawberry or raspberry cake or torte with chocolate (or white chocolate) frosting. Or something with fruits. Fondant idea sounds wonderful, I just discovered fondant this Easter, when I made roses on my Easter cakes.

I would consider using pink food coloring for the cake and chocolate frosting. That way if the kids only like white cake you will be covered.

My favorite things to cook
I love baking a wide variety of cookies, cakes and candies as baking is my specialty. I also have been branching out and making different dinner foods and bread. I enjoy grilling vegetables and bread.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My daughter loves to help me bake. My daughter is destined to have a love for baking and has her own apron, mini baking sheets, and cookie cutters. She helps me each and every time I am bake.
My cooking triumphs
I can temper chocolate and I can make caramels, I consider those my triumphs at the moment since it can be tricky to work with chocolate and caramel.
My cooking tragedies
I have been trying to make candy from scratch. I failed several times at trying to make the fondant for candy and truffle centers, I decided to put my candymaking book away for a while.
