I grew up on a farm in Iowa. My parents were primarily hog farmers with a few cows from time to time while my grandparents were dairy farmers. When I think of butter my memories immediately takes me back to my childhood. Butter was always sitting out on the counters to soften for toast for… MORE

It has been a while since I last made sugar cookie cut-outs. Yes...it is a little time consuming. You have to make the cookie dough, allow it to chill in the fridge, then roll it out and get flour all over the kitchen, then you finally to bake them.  Icing the cookies always seems like a… MORE

A few days ago I was craving a coconut cream pie. I didn't have any eggs whites or a pie crust and I really didn't want to spend the time making a pie when I would eat a few slices and likely ending up tossing the rest. (I am basically the only sweet eater in my home.)   I browsed coconu MORE

There was a time about 3 years ago when I really began to bake frequently and thought to myself, "how the heck do people create their own recipes?!" I thought that was something I would never be able to do. I found some courage and began creating some recipes over a year ago  MORE

About Me
I am a tradtional homemaker and love being a wife and mother. I also have a precious cat that follows me around all day. I love taking care of my home and family.I grew up on a farm in Iowa but now I am very much at home in San Diego. Here is my YouTube Channel - House of Aqua: http://www.youtube.com/user/HouseOfAqua/videos?sort=dd&flow=list&page=1&view=0
My favorite things to cook
I love baking a wide variety of cookies, cakes and candies as baking is my specialty. I also have been branching out and making different dinner foods and bread. I enjoy grilling vegetables and bread.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My daughter loves to help me bake. My daughter is destined to have a love for baking and has her own apron, mini baking sheets, and cookie cutters. She helps me each and every time I am bake.
My cooking triumphs
I can temper chocolate and I can make caramels, I consider those my triumphs at the moment since it can be tricky to work with chocolate and caramel.
My cooking tragedies
I have been trying to make candy from scratch. I failed several times at trying to make the fondant for candy and truffle centers, I decided to put my candymaking book away for a while.
