I managed to make these brownies last night in between the pain. I went to dental to have some work done because I experienced sudden and kinda intense teeth sensitivity but the work caused a lot of pain in the muscles and tissues in my jaw and cheek. I would often stop mixing and sit and on… MORE

In my hometown of Dubuque, Iowa just a few blocks from the Mississippi River is a row of quaint shops on Main Street. One of them is called The Calico Bean Market and it is one of the places that I must visit each time I fly back to Iowa when visiting my family.   Here are a few things my… MORE

While browsing our local cake and candy making specialty store the other day, I found myself eyeing the bags of crisp rice again. They are in the chocolate and candy making section of the store. The crisp rice is exactly what you find inside a bar of Nestle Crunch. The bag was only $2.99 so I… MORE

Many of you may have seen my recent photos of cookie sandwiches. I make peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, press M&M's into the tops and sandwich together using buttercream icing. In the photos below, you will see that I use pre-frozen homemade cookie dough, which I freeze into… MORE

I recently threw a birthday party for my daughter's 4th birthday. The color theme was pink and brown. I was exhausted by the time the party started as it took me three days ahead of time to prepare. Several batches of buttercream later, the party was ready and the guests began to arrive. MORE

Anytime I have a chance to bake for others, I take it. I am basically the one person in my household who eats sweets. It isn't like I am going to bake an entire batch of cupcakes often because I end up eating as much as I can and throwing the rest in the trash. Recently, a playgroup that I… MORE

I volunteered to bring the sweets to a Fourth of July backyard barbeque/swim party. I recently found a small, locally owned cake specialty store in San Diego called, "Do It With Icing." While browsing their large selection of unique cookie cutters, I came across one shaped like the United… MORE

On Monday night, I watched a show called Cake Boss on TLC. They were making a white cake with a chocolate ganache and fresh strawberry filling. They iced the cake with buttercream and covered it with fondant. The show inspired me to try fondant for the first time and I also wanted to make the… MORE

About Me
I am a Southern California wife and mother of one. I am a simple person that enjoys home decor, baking, and spending time with my family. You can also find me on YouTube - House of Aqua: http://www.youtube.com/user/HouseOfAqua/videos?sort=dd&flow=list&page=1&view=0
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy making a variety of ice cream, cookies, cakes, and candies. In recent years I have branched out by making new dinner recipes and found that I enjoy the challenge.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have a daughter that loves to help me bake. We spend Christmas Eve in the kitchen making special cookies for Santa together.
My cooking triumphs
I consider tempering chocolate and making caramels a triumph. You either get it right or your wrong!
My cooking tragedies
I failed several times at trying to make fondant centers for truffles. I decided to put my candymaking book away for a while!
