Cheese Cake Cups

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2011
I have made these a couple of times and they came out great. I usually buy canned cherry pie filling and that's what I put on top of these. Excellent!

Simple Scones

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2011
I've made these scones at least a dozen times now, they are that good. The only difference I made in the recipe is that I don't freeze the butter instead I use chilled butter with the pastry cutter. I also like to add cranberries and pecans instead of raisins.

Excellent jambalaya even without the file powder.

Mushroom Chicken in Sour Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2011
It was pretty good but it could have used more sauce. I think next time I'll double the sauce ingredients.

Playgroup Granola Bars

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2011
I've been making these bars for a while and finally the last time I was actually managed to cut them into bars instead of just crumbles. I think what helped was making them smaller in the pan like another reviewer suggested and another thing I did is reduced the temperature of the oven to 325. I've been adding a mixture of raisins and chocolate chips but I can see how one can play around with that. I love them and the kids like them so definitely 5 starts. Update: after making them a few times more lowering the sugar content works for us better. I only use 1/2 cup of brown sugar and 1/4 cup of honey and they come out perfect!

Oaty Cereal Bars

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2011
I made this twice already. The first time the only change I made is that I added 4 cups of mixed cereal and I boiled it for a few minutes. I was unable to cut it so I just broke it apart. The second time I didn't have enough honey so I substituted maple syrup for most of the honey. I used 4 cups of cereal again. I boiled the mixture a little less and this time (for about 1-1.5 minute) and I was able to cut it into bars. Both times my husband devoured them so it's definitely worth 5 starts even though I myself find them too sweet.

Potato and Egg Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2010
I am Hungarian and I also make this although with less potatoes and I use butter (and much less than a cup) with the sour cream. Occasionally I also sprinkle some paprika on it as well. It's a great way to use up leftover baked potatoes. It's also great if you add sliced smoked sausage or even hot dogs.

Homemade Black Bean Veggie Burgers

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2010
I love veggie burgers but hate to pay close to a dollar a burger at the store so finally I decided to try to make my own. They came out great. I made two modifications to the recipe posted here. I ran out of chili powder so I used hot paprika instead. I had some leftover cooked quinoa so I used that for about half the bread crumbs. Oh and I also threw in a handful of corn as well. I baked my burgers in a 375 oven for about 25 minutes. I got about 6 patties.

Vegetarian Chickpea Curry with Turnips

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2010
I thought it was an excellent vegetarian recipe that even my family liked who are not so crazy about vegetarian food that much. The turnip was a nice surprise. I did use a whole turnip since I didn't what else to use the other half for.

Sean's Falafel and Cucumber Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2010
I've been looking for a great falafel recipe since I can't find the veggie patch falafels anymore. I tried the boxed version and it was not good at all. This recipe however was a hit even with my family who are not vegetarian oriented at all. I used a different tzatziki sauce also found on this site instead of the cucumber sauce in this recipe. As for the falafels; I fried half and baked half and I myself prefered the baked version, my husband of course liked the fried patties better.

Seafood Newburg

I've been looking for a great Newburgh recipe to replace the discontinued Knorr sauce mix. This comes the closest to it.

Carrot Rice

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2010
I liked it but it wasn't a hit in our family. It was a little bland and the onion overwhelming especially for the kids.

Strawnana Bread

Reviewed: May 16, 2010
I made the following minor changes: used only 3/4 of the sugar, used white whole wheat flour instead of the all-purpose flour, omitted walnuts, and made muffins instead of bread. The muffins came out great! Next time I probably reduce the sugar to only half the amount.

Ham Slice with Pineapple-Orange Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2010
I thought it came out pretty good. I halved the recipe by using the 2 ham steak slices that came in a 1lb package and by adjusting the rest of the ingredients accordingly.

I found it too bland. It probably would be better jazzed up with spices and/or veggies.

Easy Tilapia with Wine and Tomatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2010
I didn't have fresh basil so I used dried but other than that I followed the recipe. It just came out too soupy not enough flavor. It wasn't bad but not sure I'd make it again.

Brown Rice and Black Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2010
I didn't use green chile peppers because I didn't have any on hand and instead of swiss cheese I used a mexican blend shredded cheese. I liked it but my family didn't. I'm giving 4 stars because it wasn't outstanding but I'd make it again if at least one person in my family had eaten from it.

Almond-Crusted Tilapia

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2010
I loved it! I didn't have lemon pepper so I used ground black pepper plus some grated lemon peel and I didn't use the extra cheese on top. Other than these changes I followed the recipe to the dot. I'll definitely make it again. I'll also have to try the oven-bake version of it.

I loved this dish. I've made it with grape tomatoes that I cut in half and used those as "coasters."
