Great beef stew recipe. I added some beef broth to it, we don't like our stew so thick, but a marvelous "go to" recipe.

I have made this several times now (mainly for birthdays) and it is ALWAYS a huge hit. I personally think the baking time of 25 minutes is way too short, even when divided into 9" rounds, I always have to add at least 10 minutes, sometimes 15. Also, the recipe doesn't call for it, but I whisk the egg whites a bit, otherwise it can come out too dense. One last recommendation, a "light" frosting is best, the cake is so flavorful and rich, a straight buttercream frosting can be too sweet, using a heavy cream instead of milk or even adding some whipped topping to the frosting can help "cut" the sweetness. All that being said, this is a GREAT recipe and good as is.

Super tasty! Everybody gobbles them up. I use Lipton Onion Soup mix instead of onions.

Literally...TOO MUCH chocolate, it was way too rich. This is only for the ultimate sweet tooths out there and those with a steel stomach.

Excellent. BUT if you are a marshmallow topped lover, this will leave you feeling unsatisfied. ;-)

Very YUMMY! It was a huge hit at Christmas, I doubled it and put it in a 9x13 baker, came out perfect. I did sprinkle cinnamon/sugar over the berries before I put the pie topper on, it just adds a nice flavor.
