In my opinion, this is the perfect sugar cookie: Puffy without being cakey, soft without being doughy, sweet but not sickly sweet. Actually they taste to me like smaller versions of those big unfrosted sugar cookies you get from Subway. I followed the recipe exactly except that instead of rolling them in sugar, I left them plain and plan to frost them for a Halloween party (though I'm only doing this to make them look cute, flavor-wise I don't think they need it!). I also used butter-flavor shortening. Sometimes I prefer a more delicate sugar cookie, but whenever I want a tasty, sturdy, basic one, this will be my go-to recipe from now on!
