About this Cook
I am a graphic designer by trade, but if I could pursue any dream, it would be to open a little cafe/bakery, serving cookies, cakes, pies and pastries along with tea, coffee, and hot cocoa! Making the world a happier place, one calorie at a time!
My favorite things to cook
I've recently started making myself cook "real food," and particularly like to find new marinades for chicken and steak. My real passion is for baking sweet, unhealthy things though, especially cookies. I'm constantly trying out new cookie recipes, and only the very best get made again and again!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up in a small, friendly town where everyone knew everyone else. I especially loved baking cookies around Christmastime, when my parents would take plates of cookies and candy to all of their friends from church--and we always got lots in return! It was always a lot of fun to see the pleasure on people's faces when you showed up with a pretty goodie plate, and even more fun to sample the baking of the many excellent cooks in town!
My cooking triumphs
I often travel to England, where my boyfriend's family lives. Desserts that combine chocolate and peanut butter are not common there, so everyone there who tries it for the first time in the form of my peanut butter chocolate chip cookies goes nuts over them! They only problem is that now they practically won't let me make any other kind!
My cooking tragedies
My boyfriend's mother has a convection oven, which I had never worked with before I stayed there the first time. I tried to make lemon bars as normal in it, and they turned out awful! The crust got hard and tough, the filling took twice the normal time to bake and then formed an unpleasant crust on top when it finally did. I tried to mask them with a scoop of raspberry sorbet, but it just looked like a bright red clown nose on top of my lemon-flavored wood planks!

Golden Pork Chops
Definitely a keeper! My fiancé is a picky eater, and this recipe was the first time I heard him say "you'll have to make this one again!" Pork chops aren't a huge favorite of mine, but this recipe is juicy and flavorful. It tastes best with fresh mushrooms, but it's still pretty good with canned if that's all you have on hand.

Spiced Pumpkin Seeds
After carving pumpkins, we had a ton of raw pumpkin seeds, so I decided to give this recipe a try. They're a great, crunchy, tasty little snack! I'm only giving them 4 stars though because I did make some modifications after reading the reviews, and I think they would probably have turned out a bit bland if I'd made the recipe as written. To summarize my modifications: -After reading up on roasting pumpkin seeds, I decided to take the advice to soak the seeds in salt water overnight before roasting. -I used olive oil instead of butter. -I used seasoning salt instead of regular salt. -I quadrupled the spices -I added a little black pepper (personal preference--my boyfriend likes pepper on EVERYTHING) I had to add ten or fifteen extra minutes onto the bake time (maybe because of the soaking?) but after that they turned out great and highly addictive!

Quick and Easy Chicken Noodle Soup
As a novice cook, I chose this recipe largely because it didn't involve boiling a chicken carcass to make my own broth, the way my mom always did. While it's not QUITE as good as the true all-from-scratch soups, it's definitely the next best thing, and so much easier! It beats canned soup by a long shot. Bear in mind that this recipe gets much of its flavor from the chicken broth you choose, so make sure to get one you really like. I went with Swanson broth and it came out with a flavor reminiscent of ramen noodles (which I happen to like), but if you're pickier you might want to look for something high-end or make your own.
