Surprise Banana Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2011
This is just a fantastic cake. I frosted it with a cinnamon cream cheese icing, and it is just divine. I'll be adding some chocolate chips and making it as a layer cake for my daughter's birthday.

Strawberry Oatmeal Breakfast Smoothie

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2011
I followed the suggestions from comments and blended just the oats first, but it still came out very grainy - but very, very tasty. The next time I made it, I blended the oats and then added the milk, and let it soak for about 10 minutes before adding the rest of the ingredients and blending. That helped, but next time I'll soak them longer. The flavor was very good - the nuttiness of the oats really complements the strawberry. (I didn't use banana, as my daughter is allergic.)

Snickerdoodles V

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2009
These were PERFECT Snickerdoodles - not overly sweet and chewy and flavorful, and so easy. I made a batch and then my teen daughter made a batch to give for Christmas presents. The only changes we made were to substitute 1/2 the shortening with butter, and to press the cookies down slightly with a drinking glass to get those wonderful cracked edges.

Cinnamon Bread I

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2009
Well, I just made this in four mini-loaf pans for Christmas gifts. One of the four was a "tester", so we could be sure it tasted good before we gave it away. My two sons took a taste and declared "Epic Win!!"

Buttermilk Cinnamon Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2009
This was very tasty. I did make a few minor adjustments. I replaced half the sugar with brown sugar (both in the bread and in the filling) and I replaced a quarter of the flour with whole wheat flour, because I love the way cinnamon and whole wheat taste together. I also made a thin glaze of powdered sugar and milk to drizzle over the top. The only pan I had available was a 9x5, and so my loaf was a little squat, but that's no fault of the recipe's. This was a delicious breakfast treat that I will make again!

Spiced Plum Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2009
This was dry and dense and by the time the interior was cooked, the outside was burnt.

Dark Chocolate Cake II

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2009
This was so moist that if it hadn't been for a birthday, I would have just dusted it with confectioner's sugar and called it good - it was that tasty. Super dark and tasty. I added ½ a bag of chocolate chips (that I shook in some flour first, so they wouldn't sink) and the cake was flawless. Was super tasty and pretty with a bright white seven-minute frosting.

Baking Powder Biscuits I

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2009
Tasty, tender, and super quick. I used buttermilk and I shaped them with my hands instead of just dropping them. I will definitely be making these again!

Split Pea Soup

Reviewed: May 27, 2009
I will want to cut down on the salt next time, and I had to thin it out quite a bit (I just added extra broth), but it was tasty and just like Mom used to make.

Pan-Seared Chicken Breasts with Shallots

Reviewed: May 18, 2009
I made this last night for dinner, and I can't wait to make it again. The sauce was rich and incredibly delicious. The only change I made was to use all broth, as I had no wine in the house. It was superb.
