Cut-Out Cookies in a Flower Pot

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2013
Without any icing, these turned out more like a tea biscuit than a cookie. In fact, if I were reviewing a tea biscuit recipe, I'd give it 5 stars. As a cookie, however, this is a 3-star recipe at best. I halved the recipe and kept out some of the flour, as an earlier reviewer had suggested. That way, when I dusted with flour before rolling, I wouldn't be adding extra flour. The cookies turned out 'just o.k.' and nothing special. We'll eat these and continue looking for a really good sugar cookie recipe.

Banana Smoothie II

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2013
My youngest child is an extremely picky eater and will often turn up his nose at protein items he has eaten in the past. That said, I made him this smoothie (cut in half since he's still small) with pasteurized egg whites. I left out the wheat germ and nutmeg. He LOVED it. Hooray!

Easy Freezer Pickles

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2011
I conducted a blind taste test between these and another "easy" recipe on here. These Freezer Pickles won, hands down. I only gave this recipe 4 stars because I needed to add some dill weed. It was simply too sweet without a little something extra. For 8 lbs of cucumbers, I would add 2 tsp dill weed. Other than that, they're terrific!

Cherry Pecan Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2011
I made this bread in order to use up some buttermilk and was glad to learn of a new recipe I'll make again and again. I used dark, pitted cherries (the frozen kind) and walnuts instead of pecans. It is a little dry, but should go well with a cup of hot tea. Perfect for a scrapbooking gathering in the winter!

Muesli Bars II

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2010
These definitely didn't turn out as I expected. We can't really taste the peanut butter, even though I used ALL peanut butter (and no almond butter). However, for a recipe to use up the puffed rice cereal no one was going to eat anyway, it was a success. I won't make it again, though.

Fresh Apple Cake I

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2010
This is fantastic! I made half the batch in a small cast-iron skillet and poured the rest into a cake pan. They both turned out great and all of it was devoured by various family members within 24 hours! The only change I made was to leave the apple peel on. No reason to peel it off!

Chocolate Biscuits

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2010
Based on the title, I expected biscuits, not cookies! That said, these cookies aren't very good. Yes, they're easy to make, but they are bland and have a cake-like consistency. My two-year-old likes them, though.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies I

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2009
Great recipe with the additional 1 cup oats and 2 tsp vanilla! I baked them for 12 minutes and they were perfect (in a gas oven).

Apple Crisp III

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2009
Eh, this recipe is O.K. when you don't have any oats in the house and need to make something in a hurry, but I doubt I'll make it again. Not enough texture. (Too mushy.) My recommendation: if you live near a grocery store, just go buy some oats and make traditional apple crisp.

Honey Chicken Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2009
Great recipe! My husband and I loved it and will DEFINITELY make it again! (I used orange juice instead of the cold water, flour instead of cornstarch and served it on brown "garlic rice.")

Chewy Noels

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2008
If you don't have a 7"x11" pan, don't sweat. I just made these using an 8"x8" glass brownie dish and they turned out great. I used Country Crock Light instead of butter and you'd never know a substitution was made. This is a great recipe.

Chicken Pot Pie Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2008
This is a good recipe for a chowder-type soup, but it isn't reminiscent of pot pies at all. Hearty and filling for a cold winter's night, but doesn't taste like a pot pie.

Easy Pumpkin Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2008
Awesome recipe just the way it is. Don't add or subtract a single thing. I made two batches of these over the course of one weekend and everyone loved them. My grandfather-in-law says I can make them for him any time I want. Thanks!!!

Hash Brown Casserole I

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2008
This recipe is ok, but I feel it has too much sour cream. Neither my husband nor I cared for the sour cream taste. If I make this again, I'll decrease the sour cream to 1/2 pint.

Easy Biscuit Mixture

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2008
I absolutely LOVE this mix recipe. I have a baby so I need all the extra time I can get and this is a real time-saver. I use it primarily for biscuits (of which my husband can't get enough) but I've also used it for pancakes, waffles and pot pies. Thank you for posting!
