Sweet and Spicy Soup with Black-Eyed Peas and Sweet Potato

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2012
Made this last night and honestly made adjustments simply because of what I had on hand vs. going to the store. I used 2 cans of black beans drained, 1/4 can diced tomatoes, oven roasted fresh sweet potato along with the red pepper in a little olive oil, gave it some extra fire roasted taste. Skipped the mustard, onion, and garlic powder and added a little extra garlic. Very tasty, something I would definately make again because I usually have all on hand. Would be good served with some brown rice.

Best Butternut Squash Soup Ever

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2011
Very good. I also roasted the potato and squash before it all went into the pot with onions and garlic. Used veggie broth since I had no chicken broth on hand so I left out the bouillon. Next time will use chicken broth. Used a dash of cayenne pepper because I always spice my soup with cayenne. Good comfort food and will keep for the regular rotation of soups.

Krystal's Perfect Marinade for BBQ or Grilled Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2011
This was very good; made as printed with no changes. I let the chicken marinate over 4 hours and used chicken thighs and legs. The marinade is a strong one and I thought the darker meat would be better. I think I would use this on sirloin steak tips or a flank steak as well.

Hot Artichoke and Spinach Dip II

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2011
Made this tonight for a house full of teenagers. Very well received. I did leave out the basil, salt and garlic salt since there was ample garlic. The cheese provided salt too.. very good and easy since I had everyting on hand. I use the marinated artichoke in a jar which add additional flavor.

Luscious Spinach Artichoke Dip

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2011
Substituted fat free for the mayo, sour cream, cream cheese but not the romano cheese. Used the real thing freshly grated at my favorite deli. So worth the splurge. Used a little extra and sprinkled on top so it browned and had a little stronger cheese flavor. Great recipe...

Spinach Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2010
I was asked to make these for Thanksgiving; actually a version of this recipe but I was more comfortable with the recipe on AR. I will tell you that I did read the reviews and made the following adjustments: I used 4T butter only; using some of it to sautee onion, garlic and mushrooms. Used one box defrosted/drained chopped spinach. Otherwise followed the directions and they were a big hit.

Chicken Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2010
I liked this recipe. Pretty basic, no wow flavors but really quick and easy to follow. I added red pepper flakes for some heat because that is what we like. Had no celery so I replaced with some fresh mushrooms. Maybe could have used some white wine at some point or sesame oil for additional flavor? but overall, easy and quick basic recipe.

Vegan Split Pea Soup I

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2010
I made this today and it is wonderful. I am only going to give it 4 stars because I did make a change. I added Goya's ham flavoring which really gave it that smoky flavor but NO real ham. I will try without next time, but this was really delicious. I am sure great both ways.

Just made this for my daughter to take to the beach. Tasted great, and so quick. Added just a little lime juice to keep that green color.

Jewish Grandma's Best Beef Brisket

Reviewed: May 8, 2010
I make a version of this; I brown the brisket and remove. With the drippings I then, sautee chopped onion, 2 cloves garlic chopped, 1 cup chopped mushrooms and 2 chopped carrots. I add 2 cans of beef broth and 1/2 package of onion soup mix. Add back the beef and add one bay leaf. Simmer for 3 hours on low boil. Cool and slice beef against the grain. Best served the next day with garlic mashed potatos.

President Ford's Braised Eye Round Steak

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2010
Loved this recipe. I have to give 4 stars because I used an eye round roast and browned in a cast iron skillet with oil and I stuck garlic cloves into the roast. Once browned I added sliced onions and spices with the wine & broth and put in the oven at 325 for 1 1/2 hours. It came out so good. Strained the juice and made a wonderful gravy with some flour and gravy master.

Broccoli Beef I

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2010
OK my intent to make as posted was very geniune, but never came to that point. The outcome of the dish was delicious though. I ended up slicing my beef sirloin on the grain and marinating in the 2 T soy sauce indicated with the ginger and garlic. But I then I did not know how to folow the exact recipe so I did the following: to the marinating meat I added 1 tsp sesame oil and 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes Then I stir fried adding one can of beef broth mixed with 2 T of cornstarch and NOT the flour indicated on the receipe Added broccoli and let simmer. It was fabulous, but not as posted but I wanted to share none the less. I used all of the listed ingredients, just did it my way; I will give it 4 stars for ingredients but really needs the red pepper flakes.

Really simple, really good on a winter night. Used only one bay leaf and a pinch of thyme. Have made it with and without the flour and either way is good. My daughter loves this!

Quick and Easy Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2010
Pretty basic dough and easy to prepare. I will say that leaving the yeast to dissolve in the water for at least 10 minutes makes a difference. I also added garlic powder to the flour. I also let rise for about 1 hour. Very versatile basic recipe and can be modified to your liking.

Coq au Vin alla Italiana

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2010
Wonderful winter night meal. I will give it five stars because the flavor was really there. Only thing I changed is just used less chicken. Cooked the sausage first, chicken then vegetables and combined everything together and simmered on low heat for about 1 hour. Better even the 2nd day -- served over garlic mashed potatoes

Awesome Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
We really liked this recipe, the only reason I did not give it 5 stars was because the browning process was great on the first side that was face down on the cookie sheet but when flipped the side on the cooking sheet did not brown very evenly --hardly at all. If I pressed down on the sandwich once flipped that seemed to help.

Spaghetti Squash Saute

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
I had never made spaghetti squash and this was very good, I did cut way down on the butter an only used 2 tsp of olive oil and 1 tsp of light margarine when cooking the onions. I chopped some fresh mushrooms as well. Used some kosher salt and fresh ground pepper.

Valentino's Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2009
I have tried many of the pizza dough recipes on this site to get the "perfect pizza parlor" crust. there have been several that were not too good and some that were great. But in the end This pizza recipe by far is the best. I made no changes to the actual ingredients. I only added a tsp per cup of flour of King Arthur Pizza seasoning that a friend recommended to me. But the crust was great with or without the seasoning. (fabulous with the seasoning and I highly recommend it!). I played around with the cooking temps and time and found 500 degrees bottome shelf for 5 minutes for pre cook and 450 for about 15-20 on the next shelf up with toppings. I am a happy girl...now I move onto toppings. thanks to all of your responses. This site helped me in my quest for a great homemade crust.
