This works very well with chicken, too. I have made it that way several times.

Slow Cooker Dump and Go Cheesy Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2008
this was GREAT! I was skeptical about the cheese soup...I did 1 can cheese soup and 1 can cream of chicken. I think either way would be good. The chicken was very tender and the "sauce" was excellent served on top of rice with steamed broccoli on the side. I made chicken pot pie out of the leftovers. OMG! it was soooo good!

I absolutely love apple crisp. Good variation. The crunchy "crisp" part on top is the best, dontcha think?

Tossed Spinach Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2008
very very good spinach salad. my family has made this for years. it is a staple at every family dinner/get together. serve the dressing on the side or toss just before serving, otherwise it will become too soggy.

Real Southern Cornbread

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2008
I was raised on real southern cornbread. (no sugar!!) and made with white cornmeal. (finer grain than yellow) so good with a nice pot of beans or greens.

Spinach Brownies

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
I made this last night. Not such a good turnout. It was quite bland. I used sharp cheddar thinking that would add a bite. I want to try this again and may experiment with different spices to adda little more zing. I love spinach so I am going to give it another go.

Mom's Cucumbers

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2009
A TWIST WE ADD: we slice the onions into rings, add bell pepper slices, and quarter tomatoes to the cucumbers. Very tasty though leftovers become a bit soggy the next day. So we make just enough for each meal we are serving it for. JUST A SIDENOTE.

Dumplings

Reviewed: May 11, 2010
good dumpling recipe. One note....I have always made my favorite biscuit recipe for the dumplings...and I roll the dough out thinner than if I were going to cut out biscuits....and then cut strips out of the dough. then I add the strips (any length you prefer but I do them no more than 2 inches long) and add to my boiling chicken broth "soup".......try not to stir them as this will make them tough....just turn the heat down and allow them to simmer or stew - gently running the spoon through them if you feel you need to. they are much more uniform this way and so very tasty. Hope you like my little idea. Dumplings are a wonderful comfort food on a cool evening.

Runzas II (Bierocks)

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2010
we call these PEROSKIS. We make a variety of fillings, but the concept is the same. unthawed frozen bread dough cut into about 8 slices and then each rolled out into a flat round and then fill with your filling, fold and seal - and we have actually pan fried them (much quicker) just cook slowly so they won't burn. Drain on paper towels well. Yum Yum. We have made them with pizza type fillings, ground beef and cheddar cheese, ground beef with a homestyle gravy and mixed veggies depending on our mood at the time. Very easy and so versatile. Keeper.
