Fried Venison Backstrap

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2008
This recipe was exceptional! A definitel keeper. We do not often get vension, so I had no idea how to cook it. My neighbor gave it to me and I was not too thrilled with the way he told me to cook it, so I searched for other recipes. We finished almost all that I cooked. I did find that it was rather labor intensive, though. It took longer than the recipe said it would, but was worth the effort. It had an excellent flavor and was ultra-tender. I did use less black pepper and it was plenty spicy enough. I do not think it would have been way to spicy otherwise. Can hardly wait to cook it again! I look forward to trying the venison roast recipes that I found also. Thanks for the great recipe!

Tender Beef Brisket

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2009
This was my first foray into the world of beef brisket. I made this recipe today. It was very quick & easy to put together. The final product was okay, but very dry. Maybe that is the the nature of brisket. It was not tough, just dry. Also, I expected the recipe to have more zip than it did. It really was rather bland, I thought, I was expecting hot and spicy. I followed the recipe exactly, only changing the cooking temperature. I cooked it on high instead of low. I think if I had cooked it on low as called for, it would have been less tender or taken longer. I was given the brisket, and, after trying it, I definitely would never buy one. And, I would definitely not make this recipe again, if I did.

Venison Pot Roast

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2008
This was sensational!!!!!!! I can hardly wait to make it again. I have never used apple juice with meat before, but it was delicious. I have not had a lot of experience cooking venison, as neither of us are hunters, so turned to allrecipes to help me out. Allrecipes came through again with flying colors. I can not imagine this roast tasting any better. It was easy, leaving little cleanup after dinner. A definite keeper! Thank you Allrecipes for another wonderful meal! :)

Garlic Butter Sauce I

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2013
Excellent sauce. I made this for my husband to go on my Uncle Sammy's gnocchi tonight. It was quick and easy. Did not have basil, so used McCrormick's Italian Perfect Pinch. Worked out very well. Burned first batch beyond repair. Had to ditch it and make fresh. Was more attentive to second batch, but still nearly burned. Must improve my Vigilance!!!! Hard when I am trying to cook & remove gnocchi while preparing the butter sauce so that both will be hot when all of gnocchi are ready.

Lima Bean Medley

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2008
This was excellent. I did make a few changes, however. I do not like cooked green pepper, so used a red pepper instead. I also added a little more salt and pepper than the recipe called for. Lastly, I added a tablespoon of sugar to kill the acidity of the tomatoes. It did take longer to cook than the recipe said, also. Will definitely make this again!

Honey Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2013
I liked this recipe a lot! It is THE one I will be using for my wheat bread from now on. I recently received a Breadman bread making machine. I have to say, it is the best I have ever had. This particular recipe is almost exactly the same as the one for whole wheat bread in the machine recipe book. I made a couple changes, having read the other reviews. I used 1/2 cup honey, 1 tsp. salt, then after experimenting with this recipe, I decided to used 2 cups whole wheat flour, and 1 1/2 cups bread flour, because I the machine is larger and also because I found to improve the wheat taste of the bread. The texture of this bread, whether done my way or as written is excellent. The temperature of the water is crucial, in my opinion. I used canola oil instead of vegetable, to make it a little healthier, or at least I thought it would. :) Next time I shall run the dough cycle only and bake it in the oven. I did this when I added raisins to the mix for a raisin wheat bread. Although I did not like the taste at all fresh out of the oven. After it had sat and cooled for a day, I toasted a thick slice, just so as not to waste it. It was quite good. I will be doing it again. I found that eating it without butter or margarine is preferable to my taste. I also put a light coating of 10X sugar and milk on the loaves fresh out of the oven. Definitely a keeper. So many ways to adapt this basic recipe. Thank you so much for sharing & all the reviewers for sharing their experiences!

Italian Chicken Marinade

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2009
I followed this recipe exactly. It was good and not too salty, although other reviewers said that it was. Not sure if I will use it again. Seems to lack a little something. If I do use it again, perhaps I will add some fresh garlic to give it a little character. Had to Edit this review 7-23-09 I have upgraded the rating from 3 stars to 4 because I have found that the chicken served cold after a day or so in the refridgerator is ever so much better than it was hot off the grill. Now that I have discovered this, I will DEFINITELY be using this recipe again.

Creamy Rice Pudding

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2009
This pudding is very good. Similar in taste to my mother's that was baked. If served warm, as per the recipe, it is smooth and creamy. We prefer the pudding cold, however. It was a solid mass, so I added some milk to loosen it up. This worked well. My husband, for whom I made the pudding, said it was "not bad". For him that is high praise. Next time I will not cook it so long and I am sure it will be perfect.

Herb Roasted Pork Loin and Potatoes

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2009
This was very good and fairly easy to put together. I have never parboiled potatoes before I roasted them with the meat, and was hesitant to do it now, but it worked out well. The potatoes were perfectly done & very tasty. The pork was perfectly seasoned. I did accidentally cook it to 170 instead of 160, but it was still moist and juicy. I took one reviewers advice and raised the temperature the last half to 380. That was why it reached 170 before I took it out of the oven. I will definitely not do that again. My husband liked it so much that he came back four times for more. I had planned to get two meals out of the loin, but, it was so tasty that we did not leave enough for a second meal. It was good the next day when we had it for a snack, cold. The bottom line is that this is definitely a very good recipe and a keeper. I will not be looking for another recipe for pork loin any time soon. Of all the recipes I considered for Sunday dinner, I am glad I chose this one.

Venison Meat Loaf

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2009
Excellent recipe. I did not use as much of the mustard mix as called for because we do not like mustard very well, it was very tasty without it, though. Next time I will use less bread crumbs because the loaf seemed to be a little mushy and mealy. Taste was excellent, though. Definitely a keeper. Thank you, Liz!

Yummy Smoothies

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2014
I ENJOYED THIS, AND WOULD HAVE GIVEN IT FIVE STARS, BUT, I LIKE MY SMOOTHIES SWEET. I FOUND THIS NOT TO MY TOTAL LIKING BECAUSE OF THIS UNTIL I ADDED SOME SPLENDA, THEN IT WAS QUITE GOOD. WILL BE MAKING IT AGAIN.

Bread Pudding I

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2009
This was pretty good. A wee bit too much cinnamon, and too many raisins for me, but the flavor was good overall. It did take three times as long to cook as stated, though. Thanks for a good recipe that is fairly close to mom's!

Old Fashioned Rice Pudding

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2009
This rice pudding has an excellent flavor, but still isn't quite what I am looking for. My mother's rice pudding was baked, but did not set up so solid, it had a creamy, pudding to go along with the rice. I was hoping this would also. It was perfect when I took it out of the oven, but as it cooled it set up into a stand alone mass. Guess I will keep looking. This was very tasty, though. Wish I could figure out how to make it creamier.

Turkey Breast with Gravy

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2009
Overall this was very good. It definitely needed some salt, though. Next time I will put some salt in the rub. I did add a pinch of thyme to the rub. Next time I will also put in a pinch of rosemary. This was very juicy as other reviewers said. It did cook faster than I thought it would. I had a 7 & 1/2 pound turkey breast that cooked in less than two hours. I took the advice of another reviewer, cooking it to a temperature of 165, mine actually was 170, and then letting it cost the rest of the way as it rested before cooking. This recipe is a keeper.

Vivian's Delight

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2009
This is very good. I did change one thing, though, I used a small container of Lite Cool Whip instead of whipped cream to make this a little more diet friendly. I tasted right after I made it and did not like it, but once it sat like the recipe said, it was very good. I will be making this again, and adding some mandarin oranges. I could not find pineapple tidbits at the store, so bought the chunks and cut them up. It worked perfectly. Thank you for an excellent recipe!

Easy Lima Beans

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2008
Very good & easy recipe for lima beans. Took a little less time to cook than stated in recipe. Will definitely be making this again. Didn't give it five stars because I found it a bit flat tasting.
