Green Onion Cakes

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2009
in response to the below post about whether the dough should rise, no traditional green onion cakes do not require yeast, and the dough is not meant to rise...as you can see from the photo, it is meant to be a flat cake

healthy and delicious, except I added a teaspoon of salt to the mix...it will be too bland without it

Boiled Bagels

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2010
GREAT recipe! Great taste and texture like an authentic bagel. Chewy and scrumptious! you have to try this if you like chewy authentic bagels, way better than some of those bagels at stores that are just a rounded piece of bread with a hole in the middle. Now these are Bagels!

Grilled Bacon Jalapeno Wraps

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2010
These are good and pretty much foolproof. My bf said they are one of the best things he has ever tasted!! well i didnt think they were THAT good, but he and i do have different tastes. he said that it was because they have all three of his faves in one: cheese, jalapenos and bacon! lol..well, since he gave it such rave reviews, ill definately copy this onto my personal recipes collection for the future

Rosy's Palak Paneer

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2010
Very delicious and authentic tasting. It tastes like the food that my bf's indian family serve when we go to their house. At first i thought that putting in a whole bulb of garlic was too much, but it really isn't, i guess simmering it all for one hour mellows out the taste. I minced the garlic in an electric chopper, which was a really good idea i think so you don't bite into little bits of garlic, it just melds into the sauce. Also, I followed other reviewers' tips to add only half the tomato sauce, the flavor was just right. Also before serving, i adjusted the taste, adding one tsp salt with the garam masala.

Sugar Cookie Icing

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
Great icing, works well and has a great almondy taste which was a very nice surprise. it gave my sugar cookies a nutty taste, making them taste exactly like the almond cookies sold at Marks & Spencer. also very pretty and glossy. the only thing is the measurements for the corn syrup are a little off, you definately need to add more than the recipe calls for, to make it spreadable.

Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Dog Treats

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2009
My picky shih tzu gobbled these up. I made another treat for her before which she wouldnt touch, but to my surprise, she really enjoyed these and was willing to eat them. i added double the pumpkin. the only thing is they came out a little hard, but maybe she likes them that way. i kept them in a sealed container and once my bf opened it, not knowing they were dog treats and said they smelled really good, he was tempted to eat one, i said...they're dog treats....hahaha

Mom's Pretzels

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2009
Very delicious. boiling them really gives them a good texture so dont skip that part! the only thing i would suggest is lightly greasing the baking pan before putting on the pretzels, because they will require a bit of coaxing to get off the pan after baking if you dont.

Smoked Salmon Sushi Roll

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
ive been making sushi for a while now and this is a very good version, i used my own sushi rice recipe, which has more vinegar which i prefer but used all the ingredients in the recipe...great combination of ingredients...i felt like i was at a japanese restaurant while being seduced by every bite as i ate it with my eyes closed mmm...yes it was that good...the smoked salmon is amazing in this recipe..make sure to use the raw kind, or else it wont be the same

Salmon Patties I

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2009
More delish than I expected ! I started with raw ground salmon from my grocers & marinated it in half tsp salt and pepper before mixing with other ing. I thought the canned salmon would make it too dry & the fresh ground salmon adds a lot more flavour and better texture. Only thing I would change is mincing the onion before adding it would taste even better I think

Old Fashioned Apple Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2009
This pie tastes good but it really is quite runny, while it was baking, the juices from the pie poured down in a steady stream onto the pan that i thankfully had under it, but after allowing the pie to cool down, the juices set and it gets less runny. i would still add more flour. i wont make this again, ill try a different recipe next time

Dash's Donair

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2009
Very authentic, one of the rare recipes that resembles the real thing. very impressed, also the meat held together very well, like at the donair shops, i followed the instruction to "throw" the meat with force...haha....good way to release tension...although the sauce was a bit too runny and made triple of what was needed, or else i would have rated 5 stars, i think at the shops the sauce is more thick, but the taste is very similar! Delicious, and i kept this one in my cookbook for the future

Lighter Banana Muffins

even though these are light they dont sacrifice taste, they are good muffins except if you follow the recipe exactly the batter is really stiff almost like a dough and the muffin turns out good but a tad rubbery

Teriyaki Sauce and Marinade

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2010
Very delicious! i use this as marinade for salmon, or thin sliced beef with some stir fry veggies and calrose rice, and heat it up and drizzle it over. Tastes like Edo Japan! i find it is better without the minced garlic though.

Spanakopita II

scrumptious and flavourful...i dont think using salt in the spinach mixture is necessary because i didnt, the feta cheese adds enough saltiness and flavour to them

California Roll Sushi

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2009
not bad, but traditional sushi rice should have a bit of salt in it. the correct method is to add about 1 tsp salt per three cups of rice, you dissolve the salt with the sugar in the vinegar, so for one cup rice, it would be about 1/3 tsp salt. otherwise, this would be perfect.
