Pashka

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2008
Not exactly a Paskha, but quite good. If u want this to become authentic, just don't use cream cheese but try to find full-fat cottage cheese, like 18%. Oh, and it's a dessert served on Easter only

Special Irish Beef Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2008
Ok, I used Guinness Extra Stout, and this stew was great! Can't say that I followed the recipe exactly. I took other reviewers' suggestions and reduced tomato paste to 3-4 oz,omitted mushrooms, added some exttra spices (don't remember which, sorry:))). It was pleasantly thick without adding cornstratch, so didn't add. Also it took me smth about 1 h 40 min to cook until beef become tender (on the stovetop), so I added potatoes and carrots later then recipe called for (I guess stew could be a mess otherwise)... But the finel result... OMG!

Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2008
I loved them!!! It takes about ten minutes to put all ingredients that you always (well, i am:)) keep on hand 2gether! And how terrific they are! And almost healthy too;) I made first batch without changing a thing (except that I only used butter as I always do). My second batch... It was unusual... I subbed vanilla protein powder for flour since I addicted to low-carb diet, BB other stuff:))) It was a little hard to work with dough and I even had to add some milk, but cookies were almost like they have to! Kinda chewy (if u ever ate high-protein bars, u know what I'm talking about), but I like this thing a lot. So, oat=complex carbs, splenda instead of sugar (well, it suppose to be sweet, right?), and a lot of protein (I Used MultiPower Formula 80 whey)... A present for my trainer:)

Cake Mixes from Scratch and Variations

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2008
Sorry, but it's really not good as is!!! At first, you obviously need 1 more egg... You totally need to sift your flour before you measure it, as someone noticed. Also, for me, there is too much fat! I did use butter instead of shortening, it's not helpful - cake is so heavy!!! And I added like 1/2 extra cup of milk, cause batter was too thick. Without any changes cake is dense and heavy, and even with some tricks it's kinda like that...

Granola Bars III

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2008
It was really good, quite tasty yet healthy. At first I thought they are a bit hard, but they become better next day. I used old-fashioned oats and substituted sunflower seeds for nuts. I was gonna use it as a 'post-workout' snack, so I didn't use the sugar, but added about a 1/2 cup of fructose and used only 1/2 cup of flour and 1/2 cup of vanilla protein powder (glad I did cause it actually added very nice strong vanilla ice-cream flavour to them:)) and omited vanilla extract at all. As I said, it was tasty, pleasantly chewy and sweet.

Russian Tea Cakes I

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2008
I'd give them 10 stars if I could!!! Didn't change a thing (except I whipped my butter with sugar for couple minutes to make them even more delicate and tender). Use the best butter you can find, cause it gives them a strong flavour. My only comlain is that my tooth were totally unhappy (they are sensitive) because of the sweetness)) So beware))

One Bowl Chocolate Cake III

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2009
I halved the recipe and made 18 beautiful cupcakes.Didn't change a thing, except I added 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint extract (for fun only).I didn't read all the reviews before I made this, but I checked it out just after. To start with, this recipe is totally working!!! Everything - ingredients, amounts - is right! I'm glad I gave it a shot! Thank for submitting!

Russian Syrniki

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2009
To tell the truth, i wouldn't give this recipe any stars at all, sorry. I make this dish all the time, and - really - with this amount of cottage cheese (i use farmer's) i'd put only 1 egg and 1 tbs of semolina. It's not supposed to be rolled and cut! The point of adding egg and semolina is to get the cheese smooth enough so u can make PATTIES. I even omit the flour and semolina if the consistency of farmer's cheese is working for as is. Only cheese, sugar, pinch of salt and eggs. But it depends on your taste.

Grape and Avocado Salsa

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2009
This salsa is awesome! I made it twice. First time i followed the recipe exactly and liked it a lot, second time i subbed green grapes (with sort of sweet'n'sour taste) for red, omitted bell peppers and added 1 medium tomato. This version I just loved! So the recipe's not only great the way it is, but also very flexible. I'm gonna continue playing with grape and avocado combination.

Filet Mignon with Rich Balsamic Glaze

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2009
This balsamic glaze is just kicking!!! I use it now to marinate all my meet. I don't cook steaks in it, just brown them for 2-3 min per side, remove them, then add marinade to the skillet to make balsamic-wine reduction. And later I can't stop soaking bread in this thing))
