French Onion Soup Gratinee

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2014
This was really good! I made a few modifications right off the bat and there's a couple of things I would change next time though but it's a great start. First off I used 1 tsp of dried Thyme and Parsley instead of fresh because that's what we had on hand. To steep them I put the Thyme, Parsley, and Bay Leaf in a coffee filter and tied that up with white thread so that they wouldn't get into the soup and make it grainy. I also set the pouch inside of a strainer with a handle so it wouldn't get lost in the pot. I also used Dry Sherry instead of red wine because that's what we had on hand and I heard it was good for french onion soup as well. Instead of the Gruyere, I opted for the Swiss because my grocery store didn't have Gruyere cheese. Finally I didn't sprinkle the paprika over the tops, I don't think it needed it. So, I was happy with and would keep all of those changes for next time with the addition of one other modification: Both my husband and I thought that it was too much of a chicken broth to beef broth ratio. It was still very good but had a chicken-y kind of taste to it too. So next time I plan on doing equal parts Chicken Broth and Beef Broth (so 31 fluid ounces of each) to see how that turns out. But this is a great base, we both LOVED the cheese choices and it has a great flavor, just needs a few changes for us personally.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2014
This was delicious! I did make a few modifications based on other reviews, which I want to make a comment about first. To all the reviewers out there having a fit about people commenting in their review about their modifications, I think that's pretty ridiculous. Isn't cooking all about tweaking something until it's perfect for you? I read one review that said people who do that should just submit a new recipe. Well, for one that would be absolutely horrible to have to search through hundreds, if not thousands, of variations on one recipe. Secondly, just because you submit a recipe doesn't mean it's approved. I submitted a recipe years ago and it still says pending. So these reviewers just need to get over it. I personally APPRECIATE the reviewers who take the time to talk about their modifications. It is so helpful to me personally. These are the mods I made and it came out absolutely delicious: - Used 1 can cream of chicken, 1 can cream of mushroom - Covered with 1 small can of chicken broth and only a enough water to cover chicken completely - Used only 1 can of crescent rolls (it's all we had) and it was great! Cut with 1-1/8" round cutter and folded in half moon shapes (I like small dumplings) - Add crescents 45 minutes (not 30) before done. - Cook with chicken frozen to keep tender - 5 hours on high was the perfect time for me. - Used 3 large chicken breasts, instead of 4 (froze leftovers) This is the perfect slow cooker recipe: easy and delicious! Quick and Easy Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2014
I made this with the "Exquisite Pizza Sauce" found here on Allrecipes and it made a great combination! I just did a basic pepperoni and mozzarella pizza. I used 1-1/2 tsp of instant yeast instead of 1 packet of active dry, but proofed it the same anyways just because I like to test if the yeast is still good before adding to the whole recipe. Other than that I didn't change anything and it was great. The only issue I had was it was a little bit rubbery? I'm not sure if it was the pan I used though. I would really like to try this one on a pizza stone rather than a non-stick pizza pan (with holes). But I'll have to buy one of those first. lol ;) I will have to check out the other reviews to see if anyone else had that issue. But even if I can't figure out why it's doing that it was still very good. It seemed less rubbery as it cooled too so maybe I just ate it too fast. :) A definite keeper for us! I love that it's SUPER easy and fast, and doesn't require a bunch of rises to make. Just perfect for making a quick pizza! Next time I try this I will also try to brush it with a butter-garlic mixture for a little oomph of flavor. Without it is still good, but it sounds like it'd be even better with that. Will update review on how it turns out. :)

Exquisite Pizza Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2014
The BEST pizza sauce! I mean, I have nothing to compare it to other than store bought because it's the first one I've tried. But it was AMAZING! Such a good flavor. Not to mention that this is super easy and doesn't even use that much in terms of ingredients. Spices and such but only one can of tomato paste? Can't beat that. I will never buy store bought pizza sauce again. What a waste of money when this stuff is easy and tastes amazing. This will definitely be a regular for us and will make me want to do homemade pizza nights every week hopefully! By the way, I didn't change anything on the recipe and I don't think I would make any changes either. The only thing I might consider is cutting out the red pepper flakes, but the spice it adds isn't too overpowering and adds a depth of flavor so I might not even do that. Definitely try this! You will not be disappointed!

Fluffy French Toast

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2014
Decent recipe but had some issues with the ingredients kind of floating to the top. So the first dipped toast would have everything on there, but the others would have no cinnamon or eggs or anything. So next time definitely wisk between each dipping. Only had regular (not thick) sliced bread so we used that. Thick would've been nice, but it worked out fine. Made 6 for me and my hubby, but had to make more of the dip stuff because the recipe cut in half wasn't enough. So just make whole thing and use how many slices you want, unless only making one or two pieces.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2014
Delicious is the right word! Came out super yummy. The only thing I would change is cutting the salt and pepper in half, a bit too much of each -- a bit too spicy. Other than that, soooo good!

Italian Bread Bowls

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2014
These came out tasting really great, but I think I messed up and should have re-shaped them into balls after the last rise. They just came out too flat for bread bowls. :( We still tried, but it wasn't as practical as it would've been if they were deeper. Next time that's the only change I would make, otherwise they're great. Also, for the rises I covered the dough with a damp towel and put in the oven with the light on. Worked perfectly!

Best Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2014
This was pretty good and will probably be my go-to green bean casserole recipe from now on. I did make a few changes right off the bat based on the reviews of others and it turned out great. Here's what I did: - Use french green beans instead of cut - Skip microwaving ingredients - Instead, mix everything together (beans, soup, ALL of cheese, and half of french fried onions) in a casserole dish - Bake for 30-35 minutes at 350 until hot in the middle - Add more french fried onions on top of casserole - Bake for another 5-10 minutes until onions are browned. These changes made it great! I will definitely make this one again. Very easy to throw together if you have all the ingredients so a great little casserole for weeknights.

Quick and Easy Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2014
Makes a lot! I will probably have enough for 2 different recipes (the one I used it for and then one other). (UPDATE: I did have enough for both of my recipes). I didn't make any changes, made exactly as the recipe states. I did use fresh grated Parmesan rather than the pre-packaged stuff though. UPDATE: With the first recipe I made, a Pesto Alfredo Chicken pasta casserole it was great, but the pesto added a lot of flavor. But with just plain chicken fettuccine Alfredo it was a little bit bland. Next time I'm going to try adding some oregano, garlic salt, and minced garlic (we love our garlic here lol). P.S. This freezes great! After making this for my initial recipe I had about 12oz left over and I froze it in a freezer-safe container. To re-heat I heated it in a saucepan over low heat and added a splash of milk. It came out great! So if you're a make-and-freeze kind of person, this is a great recipe for that.

Pesto

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2014
Excellent recipe! The only change I made was using walnuts instead of pine nuts only because I couldn't find pine nuts at my grocery store. Would definitely still try with pine nuts if I could find them. But it was still really good like this. Makes about 1 standard 8oz jar.

Peanut Butter Frosting

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2014
First off I only added 3 cups of sugar instead of 4. Even with 3 cups of sugar it didn't come out the right texture. Not smooth at all. Also it's pretty greasy. It tastes like sugared peanut butter. My husband who is a peanut butter freak, absolutely loved it and asked me to always make his birthday cakes with this frosting.

Quick and Almost-Professional Buttercream Icing

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2014
I mixed in brown food coloring and it separated and looked terrible. So I tried a bunch of fixes I found online and none of them worked, just made everything worse. Next time: after beating butter add in liquid ingredients first, if that doesn't work then I'm not trying this one again.

Marshmallow Fondant

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2014
Tastes great and works great so far (still working on cake). But, it can be really super sticky. I got it stuck all over my hands trying to knead it. So two tips for those wanting to make this (and myself for the future): 1. Use an electric mixer (yes I tried it manual lol) 2. Coat your hands with crisco, the butter doesn't work that well. If you don't you will end up with a sticky mess all over your hands. Follow those two rules of thumb and you will be good.

Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2014
Pretty good! It's definitely an easy meal. The only thing was that I didn't see the second 1/2 tsp of seasoned salt on the list of ingredients so I think I added too much by eyeballing it, it was a little too salty. We'll have to see how it turns out next time I make it according to the recipe. But overall pretty good and I'd definitely make it again.

Taco Salad I

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2014
We like this pretty good but I think the proportions are a little bit high. Maybe we should've cut it in half. Still it was pretty tasty! Would definitely make it again. Anyways the only difference is we didn't do beans (because we didn't have any). My husband said he didn't really like beans in taco salad anyways though.

Hearty Ham Casserole

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2014
I really liked this but I can see what others are saying about it being a little bland. I'll probably try some of the other reviewers suggestions next time. But otherwise pretty good! My husband liked it more than I did, he said it was good as is (and he's usually pretty honest about whether he likes something or not).

Creamy Chicken Bundles | Chicken Pockets | Easy Weeknight Dinner

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2014
Love these! Perfect as is but I added chives the first time around. Might try with a bit more chives and/or perhaps carrots and/or peas for a bit of veggies mixed in. Also I cut the recipe in half for 2 people and it was the perfect amount for me and my husband.

Stuffed Green Peppers I

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2014
This is a good starter recipe but it lacked enough flavor in my opinion. I know it sounds terrible but I originally wanted to make these because I fell in love with Stouffer's version and wanted a homemade comparable. I still like the flavor of the Stouffer's ones more after making this without any changes (pretty bad, I know). Next time I will probably try these things: - Boil peppers a little longer to make a tad softer. - Use tomato sauce instead of tomato soup - More water needed to cook rice, or use 1/2 the tomato sauce instead of or w/ water to add flavor - Use diced tomatoes instead of whole - Add Italian Seasoning to taste (about 1/2 tsp) - Add Garlic Powder to taste (about 1/2 tsp) - Add Seasoned Salt to taste (about 1/2 tsp) - Add more Worcestershire sauce - Add Soy sauce (same amnt as Worcestershire) - More cheese maybe or Italian blend kind? ~ Play w/ flavors more to get it perfect. But like I said it's a good start. Served with Golden Sweet Cornbread recipe muffins and a simple tossed salad (1 romaine head, 1/2 red onion, 1 tomato, 1/4 shredded carrot, and shredded cheddar).

Golden Sweet Cornbread

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2014
Great recipe! Like other reviewers I used 1/3 cup of white sugar and 1/3 cup of brown sugar instead of all white sugar. I also soaked the cornmeal in the milk for 10 minutes before mixing in other ingredients. This recipe also makes exactly 12 muffins if you want to make muffins instead of in a bread/cake pan. Just fill them up to about 1/4 inch from the top of the muffin cup (with paper liners). For me, they were done in 20 minutes at 400 degrees.

Garlic Mashed Potatoes Secret Recipe

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2014
These are AMAZING. So delicious and with so much flavor. I'm not even a huge mashed potato fan in general and I'm in love with these. I changed the servings to 2 for me and my husband and the ratios came out perfect. I still cooked the potatoes for the 45 minutes recommended for the larger serving. Really this is the perfect recipe, no adjustments needed.
