Tomato-Cream Sauce for Pasta

Reviewed: May 14, 2010
I can't say enough good things about it. We make large batches twice a month and freeze half, and thereby have this sauce at least once a week. It's not very much work either. Also, an excellent way to get fussy eaters to eat veg because it coats so well. Simple but hearty, as it should be.

Sweet and Sour Sauce II

Reviewed: May 14, 2010
Delicious! We made a massive amount of it and put it on a pork-and-Asian-veg stirfry. Mmmm! Low effort too, and cheap ingredients. Plus masses of sauce meaning it was good to keep and use for another meal, and would be easy to produce enough for a large dinner party. Will definitely make this again.

Broccoli with Lemon Butter Sauce

Reviewed: May 1, 2010
Very good. My husband and I do not like broccoli and in a spirit of aiming to eat our five veg a day, we each got a good amount down thanks to this recipe! Not recommended for kids though (too bitter) and I would cut down on the lemon a bit next time or try lime.

Seared Salmon with Balsamic Sauce

Reviewed: May 1, 2010
Very good and simple. My husband (who has no cooking experience) successfully made it unaided. I thought I would not get through the enormous fillet he gave me as usually I cannot eat that much fish, but with this sauce on it, I ate the whole piece. I'd recommend this to get kids to enjoy cooking, and to get a fussy kid or non-fish eater adult to enjoy fish.

Chicken Noodle Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2010
I don't know if we did something wrong (we followed instructions to the letter) but this was honestly the worst thing I've ever cooked. The soy overpowered everything until it sort of makes your tongue crinkle up. I am going back to Italian food and will henceforth get my Asian cuisine in restaurants!

Fettuccine with Sweet Pepper-Cayenne Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2009
This is delicious and easy to make, and reheats as tasty as it was straight from the skillet. Like others I found it necessary to use less broth (but I used a stock cube to get the same amount of flavor with less water) and more sour cream to get the texture just right. I agree with other reviewers that it has the extra virtue of being very cheap; I got 4 meals out of one batch for under $20, and that includes adding ham (though chicken would've been better in retrospect). A lot of reward for very little effort!

Chocolate Buttermilk Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2008
Fabulous cake. I made 3 of them (and this is a very big cake!) for guests who went nuts with joy and ate the lot - this after they had already been well-fed and watered. One proviso is that I put the layers individually by the window to cool and they all stuck to the plates. But that is a small complaint when one considers the reason - the high-level fudginess of this cake. Mmm. Definitely one to put on your list.

Chicken Tequila Fettuccini

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2008
This recipe is truly fabulous. Particularly handy is that there are four major elements (the lime paste, the pasta, the veg and the chicken) that you can prepare earlier then combine in 5 minutes whenever you are ready to eat, which would make it ideal for a dinner party entree. My other half was in raptures over it and is now convinced that I am a domestic goddess. Handy tip - to keep flavor, save the oil you cook the chicken in, and use it to cook the veg.
