Microwave Popcorn

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2009
Great, easy recipe. I found that about 2 minutes was the max (on my 500watt microwave oven) before my popcorn started burning. Even if it gets a little brown it starts tasting really bitter so be sure to remove those. Always a lot of unpopped kernels left but I just microwave them again with the next batch of kernels.

Delicious Egg Salad for Sandwiches

Threw a sandwich wrap party and this was the topping everyone loved the most. I used japanese mayonnaise (as its cheaper than american here) so I added a little sugar to it. Thanks for the yummy recipe!

Roomali Roti

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2009
I come from Singapore and these look exactly like the Roti Prata we get frozen in bulk at the supermarket! These are however a lot less flavorful than the kind I eat back home because of (what I think is) indian ghee. I read that the wheat absorbs water to different extents depending on the weather. My dough was very dry so I added more water. If the dough has difficulty pulling together its too dry. I think the dough should feel slightly wet, but its not tacky and I certainly did not need to add additional flour either when kneading or rolling out. They peel easily off the counter. They are pretty resistent to being rolled out so do be patient. The 3 flip tip was great and they puffed up! Used melted butter instead of veg oil and worked out great. For soft rotis, fry till the outside is flaky but not crisp while the roti is still bendable. Used them as sandwich wraps for a party and everyone loved them. Thanks for the recipe! :D

Chocolate Mayo Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2009
First time trying out this recipe and with the changes annie111 suggested, my cake come out really soft and fluffy. Tasted good too and no one could even tell there was mayo in there. It was just a teeny weeny bit dry and yes it was just a weee bit crumbly too but it was good chocolate cake. Two thumbs up for a chocolate cake recipe I can use when lacking eggs and butter :D

Chocolate Crinkles II

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2009
These taste like very good brownies. Very rich and satisfying, I baked them to give away to friends during valentines and I had some of them tell me they liked it. Personally though, I thought they were a little too sweet for my liking so if I were to bake for myself or for people who don't like overly sweet deserts I will reduce the sugar. The crinkled effect makes the cookie look really professional. I also found that the dough balls after being rolled in the confectioners sugar tends to absorb some of it so you don't want to flake away too much of the sugar or they wont appear properly white.

All Day Apple Butter

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2009
This recipe gets 4 stars as it is. 5 stars if you reduce the sugar. I think it really depends on how sweet your apples already are. The kinds I get from the supermarket are really sweet so I had to use my judgment on the amt to be used. Ended up putting in less than half the sugar called for and it was rather sweet so I will further reduce the sugar somemore the next time. I don't have a crockpot so I tried using my rice cooker (certainly beats stove top). Turned out great. I let it cook in there on two cycles (2hrs in total) and at the end of it all stirred it to make it smoother. At the end of the first cycle I couldn't resist and had some with ice cream. It tasted like apple pie filling. At the end of the second cycle though it gets a lot more concentrated and sweeter. Think I'll try it with cheese on toast. Thanks for a great recipe!

Burger or Hot Dog Buns

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2009
These had great flavour and were so soft when they came out of the oven I thought they were undone. Waited till they cooled to see if they'd taste as good as when they just came out and they were firmer but still fluffy and very soft. Very easy recipe and will definitely make again. I basically followed all the instructions except change a few things according to how I usually make bread. For those who ended up with hard buns they prob didn't rise because the yeast was killed when being mixed directly with the salt. I always mix the salt in with the flour and gradually add that in while mixing. I also let the dough rise twice.

Mayonnaise Biscuits

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2009
These came out soft and fluffy with a melt-in-your-mouth texture. I'm quite sure they're supposed to turn out plain and not taste like mayonnaise. They're proably named so because mayo is used and not because of the taste. I do admit they tasted a little of flour but they tasted wonderful warm from the oven. For such an easy to make recipe with tasty results I will definitely be making more of these. Thanks for the recipe!

Miss Beth's Yoghurt Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2009
Added more yoghurt than what was called for after tasting the batter as it didn't seem to have much taste. The cake comes out dense, not your average cake with crumbs, more like.. chunks. I added cinnamon and raisins and I thought it tasted okay but it didn't have a distict flavour so I'd say go with the flavored yoghurt or add fruit preserves or definitely eat it with something like ice cream.

Pumpkin Butter

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2008
I cooked this in a saucepan as I don't have a crockpot. Anyone thinking of doing the same had best be prepared for a great deal of splattering. Be careful not to scald yourself when little bits of the mixture fly out of the saucepan. When I taste tested the mixture hot out the pan when it was done I wondered what in the world had I made. It was extremely spicy almost to pungency, I thought the entire thing had gone to waste. However, after leaving in the refrigerator for a while it seemed to taste better and now that I've kept it for about a month or so (just myself to consume the whole thing) it really tastes very very good. The flavor just seems to keep getting better with age. The taste of the spices mellows down and the flavors seems to blend a lot better. I was quite put away by the amount of sugar needed to be used and cut it down to about half or less. The mixture seems to get naturally sweeter with time and now it tastes just about the right sweetness so I'll permanently reduce the sugar subsequent times I make this. Though I think this tastes very good as is now the ginger is a tad bit strong so I'll try cutting back a bit the next time and see what happens.

Chocolate-Banana Tofu Pudding

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2008
I think all the right flavors are in there and the tofu gives body to the pudding but since tofu doesn't have much taste the overall flavor is very subtle. Couldn't really taste the banana either so I would say either use a very ripe banana or throw in an extra. Think it'd taste better served with something else, like fruit. Will try playing around with the proportions next time but all in all, great way to use up extra tofu!

Quick and Easy Sauteed Spinach

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2008
Very easy and tasted great! I used to stir fry my spinach with a bit of cooking oil and chopped garlic but it always had that spinach-y taste that I didn't like and not suprisingly I never bought spinach very often. Will certainly be eating spinach a lot more from now. Thanks.

Fabulous Homemade Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2008
Baked this today and messed up ending up with an underdone loaf but the taste was so good I didn't care that it was underdone and couldn't stop eating! Now that I know what I did wrong, I'll definitely make this again and if all goes well it will probably turn out really soft and fluffy.

Glazed Lemon Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2008
While it did have a nice flavour and texture overall, what made it a lemon bread was really the glaze. The bread doesn't have much of the lemon flavour. Mine also turned out slightly dry and rather crumbly, 55 minutes might have been a little too long. For a lemon bread that doesn't taste like one without a glaze, I don't think I will be making this again.

Crepes

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2008
Ate them as a wrap for sandwich filling and tasted really good. Personally I find the mixture not quite runny enough for me to spread out the mixture in the pan before it starts setting so I'll try adding a bit more milk the next time. It worked out this time round since I needed it to wrap the filling without it tearing.

Honey Wheat Sandwich Rolls

This already smells irresistible in the oven but when you bite into them, feels like you died and went to heaven. They were so soft and fluffy. Measurements given for the ingredients I felt were spot on resulting in some very delicious rolls.

Fried Cabbage II

Bacon and vinegar make a good combination. Followed the recipe in terms of ingredients but I just eyeballed them without really measuring. I think it would be important to get the amount of vinegar right, don't want it to overpower everything else.

Best Ever Banana Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2008
I used only 170g out of the 300g mentioned to be used and it already turned out too sweet. I did add almost a tsp of vanilla and very very ripe bananas so maybe that contributed to the sweetness but I think I'll reduce the amt to about 3/4 cup like the other recipes. 1h 20min is also too long, mine got a little charred at the bottom. I decided to try out this recipe since I was low on butter (this recipe uses veg oil instead). Well, all in all, its banana bread and would probably taste very good with less sugar.
