Marinated Turkey Breast

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2008
I made this for dinner earlier in the week. I did not change a thing and it was absolutely incredible. MAKE SURE YOU GET BONELESS AS DIRECTED. I purchased what I thought was boneless, and I was unpleasantly surprised when I was preparing the marinade and realized it had a bone. It really made it cook unevenly. The ends were done and the middle was still completely pink. I sliced it until I found pink and then put it back on the grill. It still gets 5 stars because that was my silly mistake. Everyone should try this, it's a nice change to have turkey when it's not Thanksgiving.

Slow Cooker Pineapple Pork Roast

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2008
This roast tasted absolutely delicious, but I had to give it three stars for two reasons. It was INCREDIBLY dry which I thought was very strange as it had cooked in liquid on low all day. It was also very very tough, which I don't understand. The roast I bought is the same cut of meat I use when I cook the roast in the oven. It is completely cooked and tender within an hour. So the fact that this was dry and tough really baffled me. I recommend turning the roast half way through the cooking time if it is possible. I found that it cooked evenly, but the bottom half had much more flavor. If you don't mind the dry, tough meat, give this a try because it does have a delicious flavor. One more thing, once I realized how dry it was, I sliced the whole thing and slid it back into the liquid for ten minutes. It really moistened it quite a bit.

Orange Glazed Carrots

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2008
I was excited to make these for dinner tonight to go with a pork roast. I ended up being very disappointed. I didn't have an entire bag of baby carrots. What I used was probably 3/4 of a bag. I cooked them in a steamer bag in the microwave for 2 minutes less than it said. When I simmered them with the orange juice I had to double the amount because it hardly covered the surface area of the pan. As directed, I simmered for 5 minutes and added the brown sugar and butter. I wanted to add the corn starch to thicken it but there was no orange juice left to thicken, it had all cooked away even after doubling the amount. The carrots ended up being way overcooked to the point of mush even after undercooking them to begin with. They did not taste like orange at all, just like sugary mush, almost like the consistency of baby food. I am deleting this from my recipe box and will definitely not be making these again. I apologize for the negative review, but I was thoroughly disappointed.

White Bean Chicken Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2008
This recipe was absolutely delicious. I chose to shred the chicken rather than dice it. I didn't care for the tomatillos too much. They tasted just like tomatoes, but the green color was strange. Next time I will just add another can of tomatoes. Other than that I would not change a thing. The seasonings were perfect. Thanks for a great recipe!

Chewy Peanut Butter Brownies

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2008
I didn't really care for these. I didn't think they had much flavor at all. They weren't very sweet, and I could barely taste the peanut butter. The only thing that saved them was adding frosting. Without the frosting, these "brownies" would taste like absolutley nothing.

Easy Slow Cooker French Dip

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2008
I didn't find the meat to be tough at all. We cooked it for 8-9 hours on low. It was impossible to slice because it was so tender it truly fell apart. My only negative comment is that I thought it was VERY VERY salty. Maybe next time I will use low sodium beef broth. Other than that it was absolutely delicious.

Pineapple Orange Sorbet

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2008
I thought this had a great flavor. I followed the recipe exactly. I wish the recipe had given a time frame of how long it would take to freeze. I waited amost 6 hours before being able to blend it again, and had to wait until the next day for it to fully freeze. It did not have any creaminess to it all. I would definitely consider these an italian ice rather than a sorbet. It is nearly impossible to scoop. I will still make it over and over again because the taste is delicious and it is a very refreshing and healthy dessert.

Hamburger Rice Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2008
This was DELICIOUS! I cooked 3 cloves of garlic with the ground beef and stirred in 3 heaping spoonfulls of tomato paste until it was well mixed. It added a great depth and thickness to the soup along with a beautiful red color without adding a ton of tomato flavor. I used 3 cups of water and 3 cups of chicken stock. The chicken stock added great flavor, and I did not need to add any salt to the soup at all. I would call this more of a stew than a soup, lots and lots of chunks of delicious vegetables. Amazing!

Crisp Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2008
These were great. I used half shortening and half butter. They turned out great. The consistency is great like the other reviews say. For my taste, the amount of oats was perfect. If there were any more, I think it would be too much. Next time I may cut back on the chocolate chips, a little too much for my taste. I will definitely be making these again.

Mmm-Mmm Better Brownies

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2008
These brownies were, as people said, DELICIOUS! I don't like brownies to be too rich and strong in chocolate flavor, so I slightly cut back on the cocoa powder. After reading some of the comments, I substituted melted butter instead of oil. They came out a little too buttery and moist for my taste. Next time I will make exactly as the recipe calls for. Everyone should try these, they are not too chocolatey at all, but they are completely moist and delicious!
