About this Cook
I work in an elementary school with special needs students and love my job.
My favorite things to cook
I love to make baklava, homemade caramels and many other candies and cookies during the Christmas holidays.
My favorite family cooking traditions
At Christmas when I was younger we would get together with my Grandma, Grandpa, aunts, uncles and cousins. We would gather around the table and have turkey, mashed potatoes, my Grandma's heavenly rolls, scalloped corn w/oysters and bananas and peanuts. Now it's my Mom, Dad, siblings and their children. We have brisket sandwiches on onion buns, scalloped potatoes, green bean casserole and bananas and peanuts. And for dessert...Bishops Pie.
My cooking triumphs
Bierocks! My husband talked about his Grandma's zwieback rolls all the time when we started dating. His mother found her hand-written recipe but couldn't make any sense of it. I took it and went through several cookbooks until I figured it out. On the back of her recipe was the directions for bierocks. I made the dough for zwieback and used it to make bierocks. They turned out ugly, but fantastic. Now, they are much prettier and everyone begs me to make them.
My cooking tragedies
Biscuits!!! My mom makes great wonderful biscuits and has shown me many times. When I try them on my own I get hockeypucks. I'll keep working at it!

Peanut Butter Banana Bread
The flavor is really good and I can't wait to make it again. However, this made a lot of batter. I used one 9x5 pan as indicated and it ran over the sides. Also, took a lot longer to cook b/c of the amount of batter so the edges were slightly burned by the time it was finished cooking. So, next time I'll use two smaller pans.

Banana Slush Punch
I made this for a candle party that I was hosting. It was a huge hit!!! I had ginger ale and lemon lime soda. But for the more adventurous I had sparkling wine to top it with or vodka with the ginger ale and lemon lime. I had VERY successful sales that day. :)

Chewy Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies
I made these to the 't' as far as the dough goes. I used half butterscotch chips and half semi-sweet. I also ommitted the walnuts as my husband doesn't like them. I used a medium cookie scoop and baked 14 minutes, rotating the sheet after seven minutes. They were VERY good in both flavor and consistency. Thank you for the recipe, it's a keeper.
