About this Cook
I live in montreal with my husband Will and our dog Zeus. I am currently 8 months pregnant with our first child, who we plan to name Sally Chava. I was born and raised in southern ontario and I love experimenting with food, especially bread. I constantly call my mom half way through a recipe to ask her for advice. I like adding a new twist to her classic recipes.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite thing to make hands down is bread. I started out with the basic recipe my mom gave me, and I change it every few days to make it a little better. I also love casseroles, soups, stews, stir-frys and desserts of all shapes and sizes. I also like to work on traditional Jewish recipes. Some of my specialities are latkes, borsht, challah, and matzo ball soup. I am still working on bagel-making.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother's side of the family is french Canadian, my father's side is jewish from Polland, and my husband is Scottish and Irish. I like experimenting with all these types of foods. Dainty pie crusts like my mother makes, hearty Jewish breads, and soups from cheesy and oven baked like my mom used to make, to thin broths like my husband enjoys and thick stewy Jewish soups full of matzos.
My cooking triumphs
According to my husband Will, everything I make is a triumph. He dutifully compliments my food even when I forget and ingredient or over-stir the flour.
My cooking tragedies
No matter how much I try I just can't seem to make propper jewish bagels.

Vegan Chocolate Cake
I usually make this cake vanilla instead of chocolate by adding extra vanilla and cinnamon and omitting cocoa. Ripe bananas can also be added to both chocolate and vanilla versions of this cake. This is the same recipe used by 'food not bombs' in my home town, they call it anar-cake!

Rice and Lentil Pilaf
Try frying the veg up in a cast iron pan, then transferring it to the oven when the lentils broth and rice are added. If you have a cast iron without a lid tin foil works fine.
