This was yummy for the adults, kids disagreed despite the sweetness. Will make again for adults.

Alan's Ultimate Bran Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2003
These taste just you expect a bran muffin to. My kids wouldn't touch them (no surprise)but my husband and I liked them pretty well. Good roughage and good breakfast food. It was interesting to use some of the ingredients that were new to me.

Cajun Style Red Bean and Rice Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2003
This was a great recipe. I did it in the slow cooker and used mild andouille, less cajun spice and more rice for the kids and everyone ate it up. Will make this again!

Chicken in Every Pot Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2003
I didn't care for the taste of this at all. My husband like it OK but said it was dry the next day. I won't make this again.

Tex-Mex Pasta Bake

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2003
The whole family liked this one and that is definitely worthy of five stars in our house. I couldn't find the creamed spinach so I just bought spinach and creamed it myself which was easy and the other thing is forget the bowls, just more mess to clean up. I mixed the spinach mixture in the spinach pot and the noodle mixture in the noodle pot;worked out great. We'll make this one again.

Basic Ham and Bean Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2003
This was yummy and really easy. The only thing I did different was puree half of it before adding the ham to make it thicker since we like it that way.

Broccoli Squares

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2002
This was a hit at our family Christmas party last night. The only problem with this one is that the topping doesn't stay on. To fix this next time I would mix the cream cheese mixture, cheddar cheese, broccoli and tomato together (reserving some broccoli and tomato), then spread it on the baked crescent rolls, then top it off with the reserved broccoli/tomato for a pretty topping.

Soft Christmas Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2002
I really like this recipe. The reviews say many different things about this recipe, which leads me to believe it can come out many different ways. Here was my experience. First of all, I am leery about making these kind of cookies, since they have never turned out well for me in the past, but my 4-year-old really wanted to so we ventured into the kitchen and at first the dough was crumbly, but after only about a minute or so of working with it, it was easy. And my best idea for keeping them soft is not to roll them out too thin. My first batch I did too thin, and they were fairly crispy, but the next batches I kept the dough a lot fatter and that worked well. They did turn out soft, which was great, that never happened before for me. I will definitely use this recipe in the future.

Barley and Mushrooms with Beans

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2002
This was OK, but on the bland side. I did use natural barley, may have been better with pearl barley. I used this and corn as side dishes and ended up mixing them together for more flavor and the next day put it on top of rice with the corn mixed in and some soy sauce and that was pretty good, but I wouldn't make this again. Kids didn't like it, either.

I didn't eat this myself but I was told that the chicken was very good, but the rice was pretty bad. Won't make this again.

Divine Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2002
Five stars the first day, ten the second. I just had a bowl of leftovers and it was even better than last night. Yum. Since so many reviews mentioned how chunky it was, I took the suggestion of another review and swapped one can of tomatoes for a can of tomato sauce. Turned out perfect. Next time I will make a double or triple batch for some to freeze.

Beef Stroganoff III

I used sirloin tip roast and it was AWESOME! The only time consuming part was cutting up the meat and getting the fat pieces out. Made a great birthday dinner for my Mom.

My husband and children thought this was really bad. I found it edible but not very good. The turkey just doesn't blend with the other flavors well at all.

Absolutely Ultimate Potato Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2002
This didn't do much for us. There was something in it we didn't care for (tarragon?) and my husband really tasted the flour and thought it tasted doughy. Won't make this again.
