Tartar Sauce I

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2010
This is a great recipe to use as a base. I added an extra tbls of sweet relish, 1 tbls cider vinegar instead of lemon juice (malt vinegar would be better, but cider worked in a pinch) 1 tbls dijon mustard, a dash of garlic, a dash or two of celery seed. It was fantastic!!

Old-Fashioned Soft Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2009
Definitely a keeper!! This is a great, simple cookie. It is cakey, which I like I used margarine, didn't have butter, and they still worked!! I think I might try and ice some next time. Oh, definitely sift the dry ingredients together. Thanks for a great recipe!

Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2009
I thought this was pretty good, but it needed something. I did end up making more gravy than was called for, I added one can of Campbell's French Onion soup in place of some of the beef broth. Otherwise I followed the recipe exactly. It definitely needed more salt, and some pepper. I still felt something was missing. Next time I will try adding some fresh garlic to the onions and meat, and maybe some oregano to the meat mixture. Still all in all, pretty good served over rice. I will make it again.

Missy's Candied Walnut Gorgonzola Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2009
great recipe, for variation, try adding half of a diced gala apple, and feta cheese instead of gorgonzola, you can also add thinly sliced green onion or red onion. It is SO GOOD that way too!

Avocado Tacos

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2009
Wow, this was great!! We just finished dinner, and I had to write a review. My husband, a meat and potato kind of guy, really enjoyed this! I did make a few adjustments. After reading some reviews I used pinto beans, I added garlic salt to the beans instead of the tacos. I also used green onion, instead regular onion. I chopped the avocado, I think next time I will mash some of it. We also squeezed a slice of lime over the top of the taco. Oh, and after reading one review, I took olive oil, about 1/3 cup, and the juice of one lime, and a half teaspoon of salt and mixed it together, then brushed that over the tortillas and warmed them in a cast iron skillet. This could also be done in the oven. They were not greasy, but they were soft and had wonderful flavor. I will definitely be making this again! We served fresh watermellon with it, and it was a wonderful cool dinner on a hot day.

Ricotta Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2009
I'm sorry, but this cake had little flavor. It was soggy, and mushy. I followed the directions exactly. I can see if you used maybe half the cheese mixture, with the full amount of sugar how it might be better. We ate this hot, then decided to give it the benefit of the doubt and tried it cold. It was marginally better cold, but still didn't have much flavor.

Bruce's Honey Sesame Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2009
I made this exactly as the recipe said, and my loaf rose beautifully, then fell in the middle. One side burned slightly, and while the outside rose prerfectly, the middle sunk till it was only about 2 inches tall. Taste was great. Not sure what went wrong though.

Easy Red Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2009
This is awesome!!! I wasn't sure if my family would like this, and they loved it! It is going to become a staple in my family! I only made a couple changes. I omitted the tomatoes, and added maybe an 1/8 to 1/4 Texas Pete hot sauce, also added several generous dashes of a store bought Cajun seasoning mix. It was spicy! But so good! If you want to add a little more color, (as I did) add yellow peppers instead of green, it looks nice. Thanks for the recipe!!!

Bread Machine Garlic Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2009
This is an excellent bread!! I made it to go with a spaghetti dinner for my daughters 1 st b-day. It got rave reviews! I will admit, I made several changes. After reading what others wrote, and looking at a couple of similar recipes I made the following changes: Added 1/2 cup fresh grated parmesean cheese, oregano instead of parsley, about 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper, 3 large cloves of fresh crushed garlic. I still had the problem that others mentioned, with the bread falling, I think that adding about 1/4 more flour would fix that. Also, next time I will add two more cloves of garlic, it was good, but not a very strong garlic flavor. I will definitely be making this again! Thanks for the recipe!!

Pan Seared Red Snapper

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2009
I won't be making this again. My husband's only comment was that it was edible and that he didn't want it again. The sauce was just too strong for the fish.

Hot Fudge Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2008
AWESOME!! My husband loved it. It is also good for a naughty breakfast the next day. The serving size is way off. I would say it is 6-8 servings. Other than that, I am going to make it again!

Orange Soy Pork Loin

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2008
This recipe was okay, but had way too much rosemary, and could have used more orange juice I thought. I don't think I'll make it again. I will say this, It was very, very tender.

Slow Cooker Barbecue Beef

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2008
This is really good! I read the other reviews and did some addlibing. I added a few dashes of Worchestershire sauce, about 3 table spoons of Texas Pete, a couple shakes of Cajun seansoning, a dash of A1 and since I didn't have any honey, I used Caro syrup. Oh, and I did add extra onion and doubled the garlic like the others did. It was great! It had a more BBQ flavor, and had a little kick to it, but not too much! Served it over rice. I will certainly be making this again!

Golden Chicken Casserole

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2008
This is one of my, and my husbands favorite quick meals. It can be made ahead and frozen too. It is flavorful, easy, and is great for using up left over chicken or turkey. We eat it regularly.
