Easy Indian Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2014
I enjoyed this so much! I couldn't find tandoori masala, so I just used a Penzey's curry spice blend instead. I will make this again, so I will keep my eyes peeled for the tandoori masala, but it turned out beautifully even with the substitution. I also used cut up chicken thighs instead of breasts. Otherwise I followed the recipe exactly. I'm not interested in low-fat "diet food", so I used all 3 cups of cream as called for, and the whole cup of butter... so rich and delicious! Can't wait to make it again!

Impossible Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2013
I've never ever uttered the sentence "the crust is the best part" about any pie, pizza, or any other crust-bearing food, so this recipe seemed ideal. The "crust" it formed seemed limited to just the edge at the very top and a thin 'crusty' layer across the entire top of the pie - the sides and bottom of the pie didn't have any sort of crust. Strange! I would not serve this or bring it to a potluck, but it's the kind of thing I'd make again if I just want a pumpkin pie in the fridge to munch on all week.

Baklava

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2010
So, I messed this up a little, but the good news is, even if you mess up, you'll still end up with something deliciously baklava-like! I thought I made it just as the recipe said (only change - baking at 325), but I ran out of nuts so I put on the top layer of phyllo (8 sheets deep). Seems I should have used the whole package up, but I had LOTS leftover. Problem - my walnut layers were too thick! I probably used more per layer than the recipe said! Next time I will know better. And there will be a next time! This is a whole lot of yum for such small effort, and there are variations I want to try that I've read in the reviews here. DON'T be scared of phyllo dough, and DON'T be scared of making baklava!

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2009
EDITED TO ADD - I keep making these brownies so okay, fine, I guess they are pretty good after all! What's the big deal with these brownies? They're only ok. I followed the recipe exactly, I changed nothing and used good fresh ingredients. Should have used my usual brownie recipe instead!

Banana Cream Pie I

Reviewed: May 28, 2009
Now maybe I shouldn't give it 5 stars because I didn't follow the recipe exactly. But the basic recipe plus reading through the comments here makes an excellent pie! Changes - half & half instead of milk. Used a combo of flour and cornstarch. I had the heat a bit higher than medium. And I didn't bake it. It's delicious and oh so rich! This pie lasted less than 24 hours in my home (and there are only 2 of us!) If you mess this up, it's definitely a user-error! Hint - you have to stir and stir forever. Just when you think you must be doing something wrong and you're about to quit, the mixture magically thickens up and starts bubbling. Don't give up! It's worth it.

Pecan Pie V

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2008
Wonderful pecan pie recipe, I like it more than traditional corn syrupy ones. It isn't the most attractive pecan pie ever, but as long as you don't mind that, try it! I made no changes to the recipe at all and it was great.

Baked Ziti I

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2008
I enjoyed this a lot. I followed it pretty faithfully except I left out the meat entirely. It still made a lot of food! I loathe ricotta with a passion so I was happy when the sour cream worked in this recipe - no more ricotta, ever!

Favorite Old Fashioned Gingerbread

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2008
I've never had gingerbread, but my boyfriend wanted some so I tried this recipe. I've never cooked with molasses - man, it smells awful! But it makes a nice little cake. After reading reviews, I doubled the spices, and cut the baking time to about 45 min. Didn't change anything else. Yum!

White Chocolate, Chocolate Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2008
These are great! Changes I made: The batter seemed too dry so I added a tiny splash of chocolate soymilk. I also used some Guittard cappucino chips instead of white chocolate ones - the main reason I wanted a chocolate cookie recipe was to showcase the yummy cappucino chips. I'd definitely make these again.

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2008
I thought these were good, and my boyfriend LOVED them! Some people like soft chewy cookies and some people like crispy cookies, but these are both! I do think next time I'll change the brown/white sugar ratio and do maybe 1.5c brown/.5c white.

Jesse and Steve's Fresh Strawberry Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2008
I'm obsessed with this cake! I'm not even a strawberry lover. But this recipe is just so fresh and simple and tasty. I like to use this recipe for cupcakes (also using Cream Cheese Frosting II from this site). I use strawberry yogurt instead of sour cream. Seriously, don't even bother with those white cake mix/strawberry jello recipes, this is THE strawberry cake recipe.
