Greg's Southern Biscuits

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2011
Grating frozen fat is such a great idea! Unfortunately I live in a country where I have never seen lard or even shortening. So I had to use more butter in place. It was still good, much better than my normal biscuit recipe. But I just wanted to let people know that it probably still much better with the lard, I just didn't have a choice.

Christmas Pinwheel Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2011
Good recipe! I agree: use 1.5 cups white sugar, no brown. And freezing for one hour rather than chilling for 8 hours is so much faster and JUST as effective. Thank you!

Avocado Irish Cream Fudge

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2010
Wow, I am amazed that this works! I halved the recipe as a trial run, but I will definately make a whole batch next year. The slightly Irish Cream flavor is very unique, but my favorite part is that it uses avocado instead of marshmallow cream, AND you don't need a candy thermometer. I also like that it uses cocoa powder instead of a ton of chocolate chips. I can tell you grew up outside of the US and have learned to adapt to available ingredients! Thanks a lot!

Microwave Popcorn

Reviewed: May 7, 2010
No way! This is AMAZING! I live outside the USA, and sometimes crave microwave popcorn in countries where I can't get it. Making it in a pot is, of course, possible, but this is so much easier and no clean-up.

Tortillas II

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2008
Yippee!! Much better than other tortilla recipes I've tried. The dough actually allows you to roll it thin which is essential. I think the most helpful instruction was to get the flour/ shortening to the texture of cornmeal. Way to spell it out! I also used warm water as another reviewer suggested and found the dough very pliable and strechy. My life has been seriously lacking Mexican food since I moved to Europe 4 years ago... not anymore!! Now if I could just find some masa harina over here to try corn tortillas... doubtful.

Veal Scaloppini with Lemon Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2008
This review is for the sauce only, which I served over pasta. In Italy last June I ate a delicious lemon cream pasta, and I've been wanting to know how to do it without curdling the cream. This recipe is pretty darn close, and will be exactly what I was looking for with some adjustments next time I make it. Thank you!

Home Made Farmer's Cheese

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2010
WOW! I really can't believe this works! I had a box of UHT milk that went bad somehow, so I thought it was worth the experiement and it really worked. I did not have any cheese cloth OR pantyhose, but a regular dish towel worked fine and did not even stick. Amazing! Will do it again for sure, probably adding some flavors. Thank you!

Whole Wheat Beer Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2010
Absolutely delicious and perfect texture. I was afraid 1/3 cup brown sugar would make it too sweet, but it was really wonderful as is.

Cranberry Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2011
Very good, especially to be able to use unrefined sugar. I did not have orange juice so used apple and it was great.

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2008
Very yummy and nutmeg-gy. Not a strong pumpkin taste (maybe because I used fresh pumpkin instead of canned), so I will use an extra half cup pumpkin in place of the applesauce next time. The chocolate chip flavor goes well with the rest. I left out 1/4 cup of sugar and was glad I did.

Pumpkin-Apple Muffins with Streusel Topping

Reviewed: May 7, 2009
Very yummy. Also works with home-pureed pumpkin. With this recipe, I made a loaf to freeze, and 12 muffins to eat fresh. I'm picky about muffins, but I ate 9 of the 12 by myself in 2 days because I liked the flavor and texture both. Will probably use a different streusel topping next time, but the muffin body is great as is.

Chicken Enchiladas with Creamy Green Chile Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2009
Very good with ground beef instead of chicken. I did add some garlic, salt, extra green chiles, and chile powder to the meat mixture for more flavor. Also used the juice from the green chiles as part of the broth for some extra spice. The sauce is delicious and easy. Although I used 2% plain yogurt instead of sour cream, it turned out great. Thank you!

The Best Unbaked Cherry Cheesecake Ever

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2008
Although I am not a fan of cheesecake in general, I made this for my husband's birthday. It was my first cheesecake, and I have to say it tasted much better than the baked kind that you get in restaurants. I can even say I kind of liked it, not to mention it being very easy. So I will use this recipe if making cheesecake ever again in the future. (And yes, my husband also loved it)

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2008
Very good with the added spices. I loved the granny smith flavor and texture (so did everyone else at Thanksgiving dinner). My crust was NOT cooperating at all, so I had to squish it into the pan, and then grate it over the top instead of the lattice crust. (I should not have tried two new recipes at the same time). Next week I'll try this again with a tried-and-true crust recipe, but the delicious filling is not effected either way thankfully!

Big Soft Ginger Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2008
really delicious. They even get soft again after freezing! I did not have any cloves, so used tea masala spice and the cookies were so scrumptious. Definately the best ginger cookies I've made. Easy too! Thank you so much!... A few years later: I STILL love this recipe, as is, no alterations necessary. I have found that subbing butter for margarine, part whole wheat flour, sea salt, and unrefined cane sugar yield the same excellent taste and texture while being healthier for the body. THANK YOU!!!

Ultimate Twice Baked Potatoes

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2008
Even without bacon, this is delicious! I takes quite a bit of time and effort (my guest said, "Wow, you are very patient!"), so I won't do these often. But it will definately be a special treat when I do!... (Several months later) This is still my all time favorite recipe on allrecipes. I never use bacon (except once to try it, and I prefer without), and I don't bother with the top garnishes, I just mix it all together. Even using white cheese and plain yogurt (instead of sour cream), this is still delicious. Just wanted to say thanks again for posting. I am a picky cook, so this rating means probably the equivalent of 10 normal stars! =)
