Pork Dumplings

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2008
Yummy, but so ugly I could not bear to serve them as is! Served them as soup with beef broth and more chopped green onion. I was glad I did that, as the broth also added some much-needed flavor.

Honey Orange Basil Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2008
Used this for chicken kabobs, and it made the chunks very moist and tender. All I could taste was orange though, so I'm not sure what the point of the parsley and basil is. Will have to tweak it a bit more, maybe with garlic and grated onion.

Ultimate Twice Baked Potatoes

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2008
Even without bacon, this is delicious! I takes quite a bit of time and effort (my guest said, "Wow, you are very patient!"), so I won't do these often. But it will definately be a special treat when I do!... (Several months later) This is still my all time favorite recipe on allrecipes. I never use bacon (except once to try it, and I prefer without), and I don't bother with the top garnishes, I just mix it all together. Even using white cheese and plain yogurt (instead of sour cream), this is still delicious. Just wanted to say thanks again for posting. I am a picky cook, so this rating means probably the equivalent of 10 normal stars! =)

Peppy's Pita Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2008
Good flavor but just did not cooperate (ended up with a look and texture nothing like pita bread)

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2008
Yummy, just slightly better than my mom's recipe (must be the sugar). But 1 cup of milk is too much, so good thing I added it gradually as the recipe says. I would say 2/3 cup is more like it.

Jiffy Ground Pork Skillet

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2008
Yummy. Used fresh basil and oregano instead of italian seasonings. Also fresh tomato and tomato sauce. I think next time I will cook the meat directly with some thyme to add more italian flavor (before adding tomato). Also needs some salt!

Sweet and Spicy Green Beans

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2008
Very tasty flavor and a great new way to serve green beans. I steamed the beans three times the stated amount and they were still a bit too crunchy. Will try again with even longer cooking time.

Watermelon Cooler Slushy

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2008
I grew up making watermelon-lime slushies with frozen pieces of watermelon rather than bothering with ice. The flavor turns out better and stronger that way.

Banana Sour Cream Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2008
Yummy and moist, but still just "another banana bread recipe." I could not taste the cinnamon sugar coating very well, and it makes the sides and bottom sticky so I will skip that step next time. Even if it wasn't special for me, one of my guests whooped "this is so good I could slap my mama!" (It was a compliment)

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2008
Very yummy and nutmeg-gy. Not a strong pumpkin taste (maybe because I used fresh pumpkin instead of canned), so I will use an extra half cup pumpkin in place of the applesauce next time. The chocolate chip flavor goes well with the rest. I left out 1/4 cup of sugar and was glad I did.

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2008
The dough is a pretty typical cinnamon roll. The frosting is delicious, but I actually prefer my other cinnamon roll recipe, so I will use IT with this frosting from now on.

Pumpkin Gingerbread

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2008
Wonderful flavor, but it was waaaaaay too much batter for even extra-large bread pans. I will do this again for sure, but will use cake pans so that it will cook though. I baked my loafs for 1 1/2 hours but they never cooked in the middle so I gave up and we just ate the edges and threw away the middle.

Pumpkin Butter II

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2008
Never heard of pumpkin butter, but pounced on this recipe since I have a 26-lb pumpkin to use up. This is ok, but apple butter is much better. Definately cut the sugar in half-- that must be a typo because it's plenty sweet with just 2 1/4 cups, and I LIKE sweet. Will not make again. ADDED LATER: I found a solution to use up the pumpkin butter that I did not like. Substitute it cup for cup in pumpkin bread, but use less sugar and spices than what the bread recipe asks for.

Crunchy Apple Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2008
Yummy. Tasty yet healthy (or at least healthiER!) Did not peel apples since I prefer it that way. My husband normally does not like muffins but went for this one. I did have to add a touch of hot water to moisten up the batter enough (maybe 2 TBS but I did not measure), and yes you should double the cinnamon for sure. NEXT DAY: These taste gross after 24 hours, so definately eat them warm the same day.

Fruited Curry Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2008
Mmmm... It's not the first time I have tasted these flavors together. Reminds me of a hot entree my mom used to do with turkey, rice, curry sauce, and all those similar toppings. Anyway, I had to substitute yellow bell peppers for grapes (sweet, crunchy, juicey??) since we accidently ate all the grapes before I made this. Woops! Was still good. Also added shredded coconut. I think this would be good as a pasta salad if you substitute shell macaroni for chicken. I'll have to try that some day...

Beef Egg Rolls

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2008
Definately tasty and simple. I went vegitarian and used shredded carrots instead of beef. Also used fresh ginger instead of ground. I did what other reviewers suggested and baked the rolls rather than frying, which was a mistake. The taste and texture of the wrappers was all wrong, so go ahead and deep fry even if it is a bit more oily!

Spring Roll Wrappers

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2008
Although I think I need more practice at rolling and assembling, this recipe gave me a good head start. I definately reccommend doubling this recipe if you truly want 12 "normal sized" spring rolls from it. Otherwise, they are mini-spring rolls and you will have half the filling left-over as I did!

Orange Juice Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2008
Wonderful idea! I actually changed the recipe a lot since I did not have a cake mix or pudding mix on hand, but the idea is what gets the 5 star rating since I would not have thought of that myself! Definately should use some orange zest in the batter and in the glaze. My husband and guests LOVED it and also thought it was very unique.

Chicken Biryani

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2008
I'm only giving 4 stars because I think potatos in Biryani is wierd (I left them out). With that adjustment, plus extra mint, and a biryani spice mix instead of the powders, it was EXCELLENT. But this is all according to taste, so do whatever you want to adjust to yours and it will be a 5 star meal. I think next time I will use ground spices in the rice rather than the whole (even if it is more authentic, I don't like to bite down on a whole cardamom or clove, and I don't think the flavors got to the rest of the rice as powedered spices would).
