Applesauce Doughnuts

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2008
Not really apple-flavored at all, was it supposed to be? I never had applesauce donuts before so I'm not sure how they should taste. Anyway, if I make them again, I will at least put more cinnamon and nutmeg to have the apple spices and pretend that it tastes like apple instead of just dough. =)

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2008
Very nice. Used pork instead of chicken and everyone seemed to like it. I had never made pot pie before, and I like the idea to make it from scratch more than buying a frozen one and putting it in the oven.

Taco Bake

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2008
Worked well using the taco seasoning mix from this website. I could not find canned green chiles in my country, but I can imagine it tastes delicious!

Red Velvet Cake I

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2008
With all the suggested adjustments (oil, sugar, etc) it worked pretty well, though not as fluffy as what I was hoping for. Just a bit dense for my liking. The icing is totally new for me. Interesting, but I think I'll use cream cheese frosting after this (even if it's not traditional!!)

Blueberry Cream Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2008
If I rated these last night when the muffins were warm and fresh, I would have said 4 stars. But 12 hours later, they were rubbery and flour-tasting. They were not any moister than regular milk muffins so I will not use sour cream anymore. Thanks for sharing anyway, win some and lose some.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2008
I cook for 20 people on a daily basis. My 18 year old assistant who didn't even know how to cut an onion two weeks ago was able to follow this recipe all by himself, and it was a big success with all.

Tasty Lentil Tacos

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2008
Although I definately prefer the taste of classic pinto beans in tacos, this works well in our country where you can't get most Mexican ingredients, including pinto beans. Thanks for sharing the idea.

Gobble Up Granola Snacks

Very yummy, even yummier with chocolate flavored rice krispies. Good for a mid-morning snack at work.

Raspberry Pain au Chocolat (Raspberry Chocolate Croissants)

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2008
Very good, will make again. Used half the pastry with the chocolate/raspberry filling, and half with feta cheese/ greek olives. Was happy with both the sweet and savory versions.

Big Soft Ginger Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2008
really delicious. They even get soft again after freezing! I did not have any cloves, so used tea masala spice and the cookies were so scrumptious. Definately the best ginger cookies I've made. Easy too! Thank you so much!... A few years later: I STILL love this recipe, as is, no alterations necessary. I have found that subbing butter for margarine, part whole wheat flour, sea salt, and unrefined cane sugar yield the same excellent taste and texture while being healthier for the body. THANK YOU!!!

English Royalty Chocolate Chip Scones

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2008
Very nice, especially the flavor combo. The orange was not strong enough for me, even though I already added an extra tablespoon of OJ because of the texture. So I will add orange zest when I do this again. A year later: can I say again how much I love this recipe (now that I add orange zest every time, and top it with an orange icing)? It's definitely one of my favorite finds on allrecipes, so thank you again for sharing. I've made it so many times that people associate it with me, so I just thought I would pass the credit back to where it is due. Oh, and I've used dried cranberries and white chocolate in place of the semisweet chocolate which is also delicious! The only problem is that all my British friends say this is not actually a scone. Go figure! Haha!

Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2008
Wow, this makes a LOT! Good thing they are yummy and I have a party this weekend. It's a bit bland on the pumpkin-front, but still tasty with half butterschotch and half chocolate chips. I was afraid that the dough was too thin to keep it's shape as a cookie, so I only did half as drop cookies, and half as cookie-bars in a 9x13 pan. It ends up the drop cookies did fine after all! For the last pan, I added more nutmeg, chips, and some cloves. With the extra flavor-oomph, these are five-star.

Easy Indian Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2008
This has a good flavor, but tastes and looks nothing like I used to eat in Western India, nor like what my Butter Chicken masala package instructs (which I bought from India). Maybe it's a regional difference. Anyway, it is good, but I prefer the other way I make it with just a couple spoons of yogurt and no cream at all, with fresh tomato puree, and a spoon of peanut butter or cashew butter to thicken it up a bit. I have enough creamy-tomato-chicken Indian recipes so I don't think I'll make this anymore. Thanks though!

Dukkah

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2008
My Egyptian husband didn't know what I was talking about when i told him about "dukkah" and described the recipe. After he smelled the spice mixed, he did suddenly recognize it as something he grew up sprinking over his eggs. It's pronounced "da'a" since Egyptians leave the k silent. Anyway, I personally hate black pepper and cumin so I'm not a big fan of this stuff, but it makes hubby happy.

Spinach Chickpea Curry

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2008
Been meaning to try this for a long time. It is good, but definately needs more spices, as others have said. I don't like tofu so added cubed potatoes istead. Also thought it looked boring and unappealing at the end of cooking, so added some fresh chopped tomatoes which helped the appearance a lot. Hubby liked it so I will make again, but not sure if I would do it out of my own choosing just because I'm not a big fan of chick peas OR spinache, haha!

Grilled Cheese with Tomato, Peppers and Basil

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2008
At least I can understand why THIS grilled cheese recipe is listed online (can't understand about the classic version though)! I have made GC lots of times with fresh tomato and basil, but the hot pepper is a nice new idea.

Emily's Famous Hash Browns

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2008
Sometimes I laugh at the super basic recipes that can be found on this site (homesqueezed OJ, honey Butter, grilled cheese sandwiches, fresh lemonade? Come on!), but this time one came in handy for me since I never thought about putting egg in hash browns. No wonder mine always used to fall apart! Good thing this recipe was featured as a daily or else I wouldn't have ever looked it up myself. =) Thanks for posting a "dummy" recipe!

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2008
Very nice as is. I like the crunchy top. Just a hint for the "experimental" types: don't bother adding butterschotch chips of chocolate chips to this one; they just sink to the bottom and make a mess. Have not tried raisins, but I think there is more hope of that working. The second time I made this, I substituted the pumpkin for pumpkin butter from this site which I did not like. Was a good solution to use it up, but of course added less sugar and spices to the batter that time.

Not the flavor and texture I've been looking for since I lost my mom's recipe 3 years ago... I'm beginning to think I am just too picky about peanut butter cookies...

Wonton Wrappers

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2008
The recipe would probably be alright if I only knew how to handle the dough. Although my dumplings tasted great in wonton soup, they were hideously ugly! I think I'll leave it to the experts from now on, and just buy the wrappers from the store! =)
