I have been married for over 42 years, have three children and two grandchildren. I work full time as a personal assistant and I am not ready to retire. I love to garden and cook. I used to play golf before I went back to work full time -- but it has been put on the back burner for now since it takes up so much time. I love to walk, work out 5-6 times a week with a mix of Weights, Circuit Training, Pilates and Zumba. Everyday is a great day -- some are just a little more challenging.
My favorite things to cook
Italian cooking -- Veal Parmesean, Greek Pasta(from your list) Spaghetti sauce, Pies and cakes and cookies. I have taken an Italian Bread making Class, Italian Cookies and a Coffee Cake class at Zingerman's in Ann Arobor. The classes are very small and the instructors are EXCELLENT!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Any thing Italian -- my dad was a wonderful cook -- I learned quite a bit from him. My mother was a simple no nonense cook and some of her recipes are fantastic and my family favorites. She baked wonderful pies and I remember rolling out cookies from the left over pie dough sprinkled with sugar. I also make my grandmothers Kifli every special holiday one of our family favorite cookies. We use walnut and sugar filling -- they are just so good with a cup of tea. Wonderful memories.
My cooking triumphs
Winning a pie baking contest in my community -- First place for a Crumb topped Apple Pie. My son-in-laws love my pies -- they love the crust. Thanks Mom.
My cooking tragedies
I prepared a One Month Anniversary Dinner for my husband and I. The main course was perfect and his favorite. For dessert, I prepared a homemade shortcake with fresh strawberies and whipped cream. He took one bit and smiled -- then I took a bit and said "oh no -- I put in salt instead of sugar in the shortcake" and we both laughed and still laugh today about it. I will never forget the look on his face.
