Southern Fried Apples

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2013
Very good! I used honey crisp apples since that was what I had on hand, so I reduced the sugar to 1/4 cup. The recipe took the substitution very well. I would definitely recommend tasting as you go along to be sure you get the texture you like. This was excellent served by itself and over a pork roast!

Coconut Milk Rice Pudding

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2012
I made it exactly as stated and it was delicious! I had never made rice pudding on the stove before, but it made monitoring how thick it got much easier. I was worried about the coconut flavor being too strong, but it was just the right amount.

Easter Egg Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2010
This bread looked and tasted fantastic, although be sure to keep a close watch on it as mine took 23 minutes and was a little browner than I would have liked. Great recipe, simpler than I expected, and I will DEFINITELY make it again!

Traditional Pita Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2010
I've made this recipe dozens of times now, and everyone who has tried them loves them! As other reviewers have said, if you want them to puff properly, be sure to knead the dough as long as the recipe directs (and a little extra doesn't seem to hurt) and roll very thin. I often slice them and top them with cream cheese, a cucumber slice, and a slice of hard-boiled egg for a quick snack my whole family loves.

Caramel-Filled Chocolate Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2013
Delicious! Didn't bother with the nuts, and I took the reviewers' advice to Freeze the Rolos and to refrigerate the dough first, but these were fantastic. Had no trouble with them after cooling and little trouble with the Rolos bursting. Never seen cookies disappear quite that fast!

Homemade Apple Cider

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2010
While this was a little bit weaker than I would have liked, it was very good! I ended up with seven cups, and if I were doing it again, I'd try to boil it down a little more to give it a stronger flavor--or maybe just change the apple type. I used 6 golden delicious and 6 Jonathans, since that's what I had bags of, and I got a very sweet cider--and a very sweet, good, though somewhat weirdly textured applesauce.

Lemon Cream Puffs

Reviewed: May 13, 2011
Very good! I have made these as the recipe indicates, and I've also made just the puffs and filled them with everything from custard to chocolate cream to chicken salad. The only reason I didn't give five stars was that the puffs are just the slightest bit eggy, but still very good and the easiest to make that I have found.

Pumpkin Roll I

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2013
Good, and everyone seemed to like it fine. I cooked it on parchment paper and had zero problems with the assembly. The icing was delicious. The cake (baked for 10 min and it was done perfectly) was a bit bland and overpowered by the icing's flavor, and it was maybe a little chewier than expected, although probably that's why it didn't break when I rolled it. I would definitely add more spices next time, but other than that, I enjoyed it.

Greek Lamb Kabobs

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2010
This marinade was decent, but the lemon juice was rather overpowering. If I were to make it again, I would use substantially less and substitute it with something with a milder taste.

Ruth's Grandma's Pie Crust

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2013
The flavor was good, and the recipe made plenty, but this was possibly the most difficult crust to handle that I've ever dealt with. It was so moist that I couldn't lift or roll it over the rolling pin to move it. Even adding a good bit of flour didn't help. It would be great for a recipe where you press the dough into a pan or make a free form tart or something, but for pie, it was unmanageable.
