Butter Creates Memories

Not only does butter help create wonderfully delicious food that probably won't last long; it plays a part in creating life-long memories that warm the heart for eternity and often times stirs up a passion for cooking and baking.
One of my favorite memories is of when my mom used to make homemade bread. The aromatic smell would float in the air and touch our senses so that we could hardly wait for her to call us in from playing to tell us it had cooled down enough for us to have a piece.  It would be cool enough not to burn our mouths, and yet warm enough to melt the butter that seemed like a golden treasure to our taste buds.
My mom is not in the best of  health these days and doesn't do a lot of cooking or baking any more. So now it's my turn to treat her : )
The joy I found in the food she made for us, and the time she spent teaching us to bake, and allowing us to experiment, planted a seed in me that grew and developed into a full -blossomed desire to create with food and to share with those around me. It brings me much joy to cook and bake for my family. (My husband blames me for his weight gain over the years as he was quite thin when we married)   It is also a passion of mine to make food for others around me. I feel it is a gift and talent that God has blessed me with and a way I can bless others.
I remember those buttery bread days often and I still use real butter; especially when baking. There is nothing quite like it for the richness and flavor it provides. And, I don't forget to add the one other very important ingredient that my mom put into everything she did....a big heaping dose of love!
This past week I had a chance to try a recipe from Go Bold With Butter containing two of my favorite ingredients butter and chocolate. I made Chewy Chocolate Cookies that were very much to me like a brownie in cookie form. A bit hit with the family! I will definitely make them again and do some experimenting with different ingredients. Perhaps you'd like to try out the recipe and create some yummy treats for family and friends and maybe even some memories that will last a lifetime!

I've really enjoyed reading people's butter blogs. The thing I get out of so many of them is the connection of food with feelings of love.

Agree, Paula! I'm feeling nostalgic for a simpler, less driven way of life. I think that is what is calling me to memories of times past. I'm so busy doing there is no time for being! Thanks for posting, BlessedBaker. I'm sure it is a great encouragement for your mom to see the harvest she planted in you!

Those cookies sound great-combining my two faves, cookies and brownies! You're right, that flavor and richness just can't be matched! Keep baking up the love!

About Me
I am 46 years old. Married to my high school sweetheart. We have 3 children. Levi (24) who is in the Air Force and got married last year, Rebekah (21) who still lives at home and works as a receptionist for a cardiologist group, and our youngest is Zachary (15) who is a freshman at a school for the arts. His primary instrument is trombone, but he plays a few different ones. I absolutely love dogs and have 4 of them. We are very committed and involved in our church. And, of course, I love to bake and cook. I even had the privilege of making a meal for a band that came to play a concert for our youth group. As a matter of fact, the main course was the Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumpling recipe from All Recipes!!
My favorite things to cook
DESSERTS!! But I just enjoy cooking and baking in general, and love to try new recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Getting the whole family involved...especially during the holidays. I can remember having so much fun helping my mom with cut- out cookies at Christmas when I was young, and I started my kids doing recipes when they were young. We have wonderful memories and it makes me feel good to know they can prepare a meal for themselves.
My cooking triumphs
I consider it a triumph anytime something I prepare brings someone else enjoyment...love to make other people smile : )
My cooking tragedies
As long as it's edible I don't really consider it a tragedy, but I do remember one time years ago I tried a recipe (can't recall what it was now) that neither me or my husband would eat and we went out to eat! LOL
