Shallots people, shallots! When you don't want a big onion texture or taste, use shallots intead of onion and slice very very fine! YUM! This is a hit for all! I have some guests who don't eat meat but love cheese and they made this a meal. Good tip to remove foil at the end and bread crumbs add a little texture to the top. I will make this again and again. ( I never did buy the boxed au gratin since I knew it wouldn't be as good as scratch, call me a food snob)
