Grandmother's Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2012
Awesome cookies. I was looking for a recipe that only called for 2 cups oats and picked this one. I left out the raisins because my boys don't like them. I added the eggs into the creamed butter and sugar then followed the recipe. I added 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips. Super super yummy. Thanks for a keeper.

Rhubarb Wild Rice Pilaf

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2011
Excellent recipe. Love the idea of a savory dish for rhubarb, the other vegetable. The spice combo screamed lamb to me so I made this to serve with greek lamb kabobs. I used brown basmati rice in place of white because that is my 'house' rice. I don't use raisins often but I had dried cranberries so I subbed them. We loved this dish. Next time I will reduce the cinnamon, it was just a touch overpowering to our palate. The overall taste and experience of this dish is mediterranean, very exotic. I really liked the tangy bits of rhubarb in each bite. I was fresh out of Greek wines so I paired this and the lamb with a very nice Beaujolais, with the spice it tied together nicely. ??a??et???

Sirloin Tips and Mushrooms

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2011
I made this for dinner with a couple of minor changes... I used fresh mushrooms that I pre-browned... I 2 tbsp tomato for the tomato sauce and added the paste before the other ingredients after the meat had browned... I also added onion and bay leaf.. This was super good yes I made changes but the basic concept is solid and delicious. I can imagine that it would be 5 star even without my changes.. Thanks GRANNYA for a keeper

Thai Meat & Potatoes

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2011
So as a gang-up recipe this was a big success. I attempted to perfume the potatoes by boiling them with the rosemary and they did have a really nice flavour all by themselves. However because (I think) we are on well water the combination of boiling the potatoes with the rosemary turned the potatoes grey. Good thing the sauce was such a pretty yellow to hide the potato colour...

Cranberry Apple Stuffed Pork Loin

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2010
I have never made a stuffed pork loin before the directions were very easy to follow. I made my own stuffing using rye bread sauteed onions and carrots to which I added the dried cranberry, apple and chopped pecans; I only had spiced glazed pecans but they worked. Instead of water I used apple cider from a local cidery to deglaze the pan. I added this finely diced rye bread and seasoned with thyme, savory, salt and pepper. I made extra stuffing following hints from other reviewers. Rolled and tied I seard the pork loin on the stove top then cooked in a 375 degree oven... This was a big hit with the whole family and I'm pretty sure I will have to make it again, and willingly the recipe is very easy to follow and can be adapted easily to personal tastes.

Grilled Steak and Potato Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2010
I made this for hubby and myself for dinner with the following changes; I used maple syrup instead of white sugar and I minced fresh garlic rather than bottled. It was ok but both hubby and I found the garlic to be over powering, even though I used less than the 2 teaspoons the recipe calls for.

Vera Cruz Tomatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2010
I made these for recipe group. I made one big change I subbed 1 cup ricotta for the sour cream because of personal taste and I forgot to add the hot sauce due to personal stupidity. However they turned out fabulous, we all loved the fact that we could taste all the ingredients. Mine were not watery at all considering I also forgot to drain the tomato shell before filling them. I would make them again in a heartbeat. Thanks for the great recipe. Cheers

Cindy's Jambalaya

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2010
I made this for dinner last night with a few changes. I strained the tomatoes and reduced the chicken stock a bit and added some Pinot Noir. This shouldn't come as a shock to anyone. Unfortunately I didn't have any garlic, which was a shock to me, so I upped the Cajun seasoning by quite a bit and since the farmers sausage I used was pretty garlicky the combination worked. I used a mix of brown, red and wild rice and I also added some chicken, which I tossed with the cooked shrimp and added after the rice sausage and veggies were cooked. My family loved it, will make again.

All Purpose Lime Marinade

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2010
I made this for recipe group. I tripled the recipe and marinaded 2 pork loin roast for 4 hours then grilled them. I made the recipe as directed but halfed the chile powder because hubby isn't a fan of heat. I must state that I was not very impressed, good lime flavour but not much else. No hint of the teriyaki and I feel that this recipe would be out of balance even with the extra chile powder because heat and acid don't balance well without sweet or creamy (oil)... The taste was very acidic and I countered that by reducing the marinade after removing the meat and straining out the other bits.. I added honey, a lot of honey and served it along side the meat. I probably won't make this again because other recipe serve me better.. Lots of lime, maybe some heat, if that punches your buttons carry on..

Donut Muffins

Love this recipe. I did skip dipping the muffins in the melted margarine but the sugar and cinnamon stuck very well. Great treat for the family but make a double or triple batch or you won't get a taste. Thanks Diane.

Pasta Primavera with Smoked Gouda

Reviewed: May 5, 2010
I served this a my bff for dinner. We both had been eating a little too rich for a few days, so I was looking for a hearty but lighter meal. This was awesome I made some minor changes; added Asparagus, used fresh herbs subbed feta for the gouda and added a dash of white wine. Great meal and tons of veggies.

Gumbo Style Chicken Creole

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2009
Dang this is good. I made a huge batch of chicken caccatori in the slow-cooker and recycled the leftovers in this dish. I didn't have mushrooms so I left them out, I used honey in place of white sugar but splashed a little lemon juice in it as I found it a bit too sweet. Tossed in some crushed chili peppers and some chile powder, also added some BC spot prawns. As a quick cook after a busy work day this recipe is awesome, I really enjoyed cooking and eating this meal. I served it with brown rice and garlic bread. Five stars may not be enough. Thanks for the recipe.

Shredded French Dip

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2009
Yummy to the max, with a couple of substitutions I made. I subbed the consomme for red wine and used French Onion Soup from the carton, that is ready to eat. Worked wonderfully, I used a sirloin tip roast and cooked it until it was tender but not falling apart. After letting it rest for a bit it Sliced for the sandwiches excellently. Definitely will use again.
