Saturday June 12, 2011…the place to be was Saveurs home in Columbus. The second annual Buckeye Bash took place at noon. Sixteen people attended, 9 Allrecipes fanatics, 6 husbands, and one neighbor! Potluck affair and everyone brought something. The menu:
Bellepepper ~ wild rice/orzo salad
Maggie & Cindy ~ roasted garlic bread and fruit
Mickdee ~ Eat MI Salad
Marcella ~ 3 layer chocolate cake
Carrie ~ crab toasties and smoked salmon dip
Swchef ~ peach salsa/cream cheese appetizer
Sassyoldlady ~ 3B Beans, potato salad, cucumber salad & banana pudding
Saveur ~ shrimp, marinated flank steak with horseradish sauce, blistered tomatoes
And…if I missed anything I’m sorry, there was sooooo much food and all of it good! Saveur set up a bar and made Sangria. I never did get to taste the white sangria. Saveurs place is gorgeous and she did a fantastic job getting everything set up and hosting us all. Maggie talked Cindy into coming up for the bash, and Saveur and I kept it a secret from everyone else. Needless to say, they were all surprised, especially Carrie. Earlier in the week I received packages with gifts for all the ladies from Mominator, Lady Sparkle, and Trishie. Thank you ladies! My guys made me open them so they could see what was in the packages. #1 son was especially impressed with the cigars from Mominator, and some of the guys at the bash really appreciated them LOL! We took pictures with the stogies and Trishies Irish flag. Sorry LadySparkle, we hadn’t gotten to opening all the gifts yet when we took pictures. Lady Sparkle sent her handmade dishcloths and Trishie sent fridge magnets and candies also. And thank you to all the ladies for the nice gifts they brought. As you saw by the pics from Carrie, we were a riotous bunch, even the neighbor had a good time! There were tears, but lots more laughter! Marcella, Mickdee, and Carrie were newcomers to the group this time. They settled right in to our crazy crew quite nicely. We toasted before dinner to us and all the ones who weren’t there with us. Carrie brought up the subject that AR is for sale, maybe we should buy it? I felt such a bond with these women I barely know personally. We know each other as online friends, yet sometimes know more about each other than our own families and friends. It’s an AR thing! The hubbies were great, they chatted with us, and when all the ladies settled in together, they grouped up and talked guy things LOL! The weather even cooperated and we didn’t get the thunderstorms they forecasted. Saveur made Carrie and her Mr., honorary Ohio State fans with a couple of OSU t-shirts. Saveur and I think if we do it again next year, no more gifts, we are declaring a moratorium. If you ever get the chance to meet another AR member, do it! Thanks for everything ladies, I had a blast! And, Saveur…sorry about the glass! ;)
The spread, we filled up the last table too.

great pics, were you breaking things? I have an Uncle-in-law who comes to visit, he gets a plastic cup no matter what he drinks as he has depleted my glass sets in the past

It was a blast! Great food, and company, what more can you ask for...oh, ya, SANGRIA~! Cindy and Maggi brought the gorgeous shrimp trays, I can't take credit for that special treat :0 Hey, Sassy, what's a candle, or two, between friends ;)

It wasn't me that brought up AR being for sale. I think it was Savvy or Bellepepper? I didn't know until this minute that there was peach salsa!!! I had a wonderful time and so did my hubby! I would like the recipe for the cucumber salad ~ your dressing is better than mine!

YAY! Glad to got the Guy pics to load properly...my pics are the same ones...but AR crop feature just won't let me post it proper. Greats Pics, Sassy! I had a blast too! Thank you to both you and Savvy for getting everything together...great job!

Dang I am so jealous! Glad you had such fun and that the weather stayed nice!

So glad for the names, I'd recognized 2 out of how many! Sounds like you all had a fantastic time, and nice of the weather to behave for that yummy spread. Forget the bad hair day, rain would've watered down the Sangria :-0

Looks like fun! I'm sorry I missed it...again!!!

LOL Wendie, but the time I walked from the air conditioned car to the door, my hair was hanging!! And before we got back to Cleveland that night the skies had opened up!

Great blog and pics, sassy! I guess I'm the slowbo here because I haven't done my pics yet. Jim took them and did get quite a few, but not all are good. He said he'd try to help me set up a slide show, but not sure of that one yet. BTW, I didn't know about the peach salsa either. Dang, that sounds wonderful! swchef, is there a recipe??? And I may have been the one who brought up Reader's Digest wanting to sell off AR. I read it on line a while back. But, I got the impression it's not something new.

Did you gals have the same trouble we've had? We need to start hiring a photographer - someone always gets left out of the pics, because someone has to be on the other side of the camera /= THAT's the advantage of being at a restaurant - you can ask an innocent passerby to take your pic (= [Still jealous, btw (= I've been to two get-togethers - but I want to go to them all!!!!! Need to start buying lottery tix (=]

I think I had the Peach salsa...it was over cream cheese! It was VERY good....didn't taste sweet at all to me (not a sweet+savory mixed fan)

Fruit salsas have never appealed to me, but mauigirl had a mango salsa at the gathering in Vegas, and it was wonderful! Everyone asked if it was an AR recipe - she said that she couldn't find ripe mangoes, so she got it at Costco. I looked the other day and all I saw was a mango/preach salsa. Not sure it's the same one, but I'm going to get it for my daughter's grad party Saturday . . . Fingers are crossed!

Thank you all for sharing with the rest of us, btw!!!

Swchef brought the peach salsa, I think...it is usually made with hot peppers in it.
Jun. 15, 2011 1:34 pm
And yes, having too much fun to stop and take pictures, by the time I thought about it, it was too late.
Jun. 15, 2011 1:35 pm
Gina! I posted for a month off and on, was hoping you would see it and come! We all still want to come and crash your wedding LOL!

Again, I am kicking myself HARD about missing this get together! I sooo could have been there had I only not forgotten about it! I had this nagging feeling that something important was coming up, but with everything going on, it totally slipped my mind! So glad you all had such a wonderful time! I love the pictures- everyone looks like they have known each other for years! And what a fantastic surprise that Cindy showed up- how fun :)

It was just a magical get together. Everyone I met was even nicer than I imagined they would be. And the food? THE BEST of everything. The icing on the cake was when Cindy Lepp showed up! Thanks to Saveur for having us at her beautiful home.

You know I just hosted the Las Vegas get together and I get all excited about yours. I know the joy and the sisterhood that comes from these gatherings. I hope you all have wonderful memories of this event for the rest of your days:)

I've been using AR for quite a few years but never even noticed or read the buzz or blogs until recently. I am truly amazed at how you all have become such an engaged community of friends. Looks like a wonderful get together and great food and weather too. Great pictures!

Oh My Goodness! It looks like you had a ball "Buckeye Girls!" The menu sounds wonderful and I'm so glad to see pictures of your men too! You're all beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing! We have so much in common now; beautiful crocheted dishclothes, Irish candy and magnets and a love of good food and fellowship!

I'm with the gals from the west coast. We all need to win the lottery so we can go to all of these meet-ups. Now Gary and Cindy Lou's having a shindig down south. Can't make that one, but I'm going to the Midwest Round-up Reunion!
Jun. 18, 2011 9:01 am
Great blog and pics! Wish I was there! I would love more info on a midwest gathering! Anybody want to visit Indiana?

Well here we are a week later and I'm just getting caught up with the blogs I've missed this week. Yours was the one I was hoping would be here and sure enough. Looks like you all had such a wonderful time and great food. Don't know how yet, but someday Sassy, you will be here and meet us, or I'll be there to meet all of you.
