Poppy Seed Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2009
***My suggestions for beginning bakers, preheat the oven before mixing anything; do not over mix the batter because the bread will turn out tough; wait the 10 minutes before taking the bread out of the pan, this gives the bread more moisture. *** I made about 1/3 of this recipe to use in a 8 in tart pan. I kept the same amount of almond extract and poppy seeds. Turned out moist and decently soft. It could have probably turned out better if I had made the exact amount the recipe called for so that I wouldn't have to guess at the baking time, which for me was 35 minutes. Overall, I would use this again and make the correct amount. Simple ingredients and easy to make. Tasted sweet, but not too sweet. It's even better the next day and when it's cold. Check out my picture to see how it turned out. :)

Sunday Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2009
Pretty good. The dough wasn't too sticky for me to handle though don't be expecting the dough to feel like normal white bread dough. The only thing I didn't like was that it was a tad too sweet. (It said that the bread was going to be sweet in the description, but I didn't think it was as sweet as this). So I suggest that you decrease the sugar amount a little. Other than that, the texture is soft and wonderful. :) Also as a note, I let it rise for 8 hours in a warm room overnight, but did not let it rise another 2 hours after shaping, and it still turned out great. I can't wait to try the endless possibilities like adding cheese on top or adding in meat! A good recipe that I will be using again. *As an update, these rolls are perfect for sweet hot dog rolls. :)

Cake Mixes from Scratch and Variations

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2009
Followed the yellow cake recipe. Not bad at all. Not as sweet as I wanted. There was something off, but with a little frosting and sprinkles it tasted fine. Overall, I'll be keeping this in my recipe box just in case I don't find a better recipe.

Cinnamon Swirl Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2009
Great recipe. My suggestions: Add about a tablespoon of cinnamon to the dough itself to get more of a cinnamon taste. Add about 1/2 a cup of raisins (per loaf) in the filling along with what the original recipe calls for to make cinnamon raisin swirl bread. The bread was tasty and perfect. Definitely going to use again.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2009
One of the best recipes I've come across. I tried the original Nestle Toll House cookie recipe I found, but no where near as good as this version. The cookie was lightly crunchy on the outside with a soft middle. Perfect. My only suggestion is that you don't grease the cookie sheet. I didn't and it turned out great.

Buttermilk Pound Cake II

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2009
My first time making a pound cake and it turned out absolutely perfect! I made lots of small cakes in ramekins, then cut then into slices. I did not need to alter a single thing! Cake turned out sweet (but not too sweet) and had a moist texture; wasn't dense either but not super light either. I would definitely use this recipe again.

Lighter Banana Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2009
Really great recipe. I used one mashed banana and about a cup of banana chips and it turned out delicious! A bit chewy in texture, but it tastes great still and is a good alternative to the regular banana muffins.

Focaccia Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2009
Pretty good recipe. I added a lot more Parmesan cheese on the top because I was making it for friend who loves cheese. Overall, I'd use this recipe again. Simply wonderful!
