Wacky Cake VIII

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2011
I found this recipe years ago in a community cookbook and make it several times a year. I usually stir it up in a bowl because I tend to make a mess trying to stir it in the pan! But why did I never think of using melted butter!! Makes a delicious difference.

Chicken With Sour Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2011
No wonder nearly 5,000 cooks have saved this recipe! The sauce is great. I used boneless skinless chicken breasts and had no soup mix. So I browned about 1/4 cup of chopped onions with the chicken and added more than a pinch of the seasonings. I sprinkled the top with more paprika just for 'pretty'.My picky husband loved it! This was the first time to use sour cream over chicken this way. I will again. Thanks.

Italian Seasoning I

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2010
Great stuff. Ran out of store bought seasoning, made this up and used it in tomato-okra soup. Perfect.

Simple Beef Short Ribs

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2010
Had to make adjustments as I keep no alcohol in the house. I finished cooking in the oven instead of on top of the stove. It was delicious. Another time I will try it as written. I know the beer will add a great flavor, and rate a 5.

American Chop Suey II

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2010
A friend gave me this recipe nearly 30 years ago - but she called it 'Goulash' ! It's pretty plain without added seasonings - make it Mexican one night with chili powder, oregano and cumin, maybe, or use Italian herbs. But young children like it plain, whatever you call it! So does my husband, served with plain white bread. I still make it for him, but vary the seasonings as inspiration strikes. Very basic acaptable recipe.

Leona's Lefse

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2009
I love this easy recipe - and doesn't make a zillion like my Norwegian grandmother's recipe! Your specific instructions are the best I've seen. I'll use this when I don't want to make so many. My family isn't as fond of these as I am!

Norwegian Lefse

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2009
This is just the way my Norwegian grandmother taught me to make Lefse - but I just use 5 pounds of potatoes. Butter and sugar, for sure, and jelly! Lingonberry if you can find it.

Norwegian Christmas Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2009
Just like my Norwegian grandmother's! I use white raisins, but Grandma used currants. She had a bush in her garden in Northe Dakota! We grew up having this for Christmas morning breakfast.I grated my own cardamon for years, as the ground was impossible to find.

Fattigmann

Just about like my Norwegian grandmother's Fattigmann's, but needs 1 tablespoon brandy.

Kringla II

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2009
Almost like my Norwegian grandmother's recipe. But she always added a tablespoon of anise seed! Learning to handle wet dough was like a rite of passage for me and my sister. We still make them at Christmas.Evaporated milk works well.
