Four-Bean Medley

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2010
I made this dish for a family gathering and it was a huge hit! I used what I had, 2 cans baked beans, 1 can pinto, one of kidney. It was a perfect combination, and followed the recipe exactly as written otherwise. The timing for the crockpot is right - I like that I can make ahead and serve when we are ready to eat. This is one our new 'favorites'.

Artichoke-Cheese Braids

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2010
Just made this last night and it turned out very tasty. Really nice appetizer. Only problem I had was making the braid. I couldn't seem to follow the directions...so mine was an artichoke log.

Taco Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2010
I have made this many times now, and find that it is very easy and can be modifed to use whatever I have in the cupboard. I have added a can of Rotel cilantro and lime tomatoes, or a layer of salsa. I add a can of black beans if I have them. I also sprinkle a few black olives if on hand. I have made with turkey instead of ground beef. I have used a recipe for taco seasoning when I need it from this site..This recipe is very forgiving and my family always loves it, whatever combination of ingredients I use. The crescent rolls make this the best taco pie recipe. Thank you!

Frank's Spicy Alabama Onion Beer Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2010
Frank, I love this chili. I have made it several times, and just made it last night again, but had to change it a little due to lack of ingredients. I only had one can of diced tomatoes, so added one can of rotel cilantro and lime diced tomatoes. I had one pound of ground turkey and just less than one pound of sirloin steak chopped in small pieces. I didn't want to go to the store, so had to make do with what I had. My beer was Yuengling and it worked out great. We like spicy, but not to hot, so added 1/4 cup chili pepper and several dashes of hot pepper sauce (chihula sauce), no pepper flakes or jalapeno peppers, just some shakes of red pepper. My beans were one can of pintos and one can of kidney. Many changes, but so similar to your recipe. It turned out great and I just wanted to let you know that these small changes can still produce a great chili. If you have a large group to serve, you can also cook a pot of white rice and serve the chili on top - really can feed a crowd. I have college age kids and friends and am always looking for ways to feed a lot without too much expense. Everyone raved about the recipe on a cold evening. Update 3/17/14 I am still making this delicious chili and found that a stout beer is the best to use. I follow the recipe as written except for adjusting the spices down a little for our taste. I still get great reviews when I serve this. Thanks again!

Calico Squash Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2009
I just made a test recipe for Thanksgiving and this is my new squash dish. I added extra squash and zucchini as it looked like there was too much sauce for my original quantity of veggies. That may be what happened to you, Cristin. I did sautee the veggies in a little butter and olive oil. Added a little red pepper while sauteeing. Otherwise, made as directed. The dish came out better than expected. Five stars!!

Jammin' Tarheel Chili

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2009
We loved this recipe. I made as the recipe stated, served over white rice, sprinkled cheese on top of chili. Simmered three hours as recommended, perfect! I will definitely include this in my recipe box. Thanks!

Sesame Beef

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2009
This was great. I stir fried broccali, carrots and mushrooms before I added the beef. Added extra marinade, and served over rice - excellent!

It's Chili by George!!

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2009
My family loved this. Used tomato sauce and stewed tomatoes (because I had on hand) instead of the tomato juice and added some Rotel Mexican tomato with lime and cilantro. Just the right kick for us. Will make this a regular on our menu.

Great way to cook shrimp. Definitely adding to our lineup. I had a little tilapia that I also cooked this way, also great.
