About this Cook
I cook for many reasons: out of necessity (we gotta eat!), to save money(restaurants really add up) but also because I enjoy putting a good meal on the table that my family enjoys. I believe in having a family dinner as often as possible, which in our case is most nights. This site has been truly a god-send to me....I love trying new things, I love being able to search for recipes based upon ingredients I have on hand, and I love the collaboration between cooks, as reflected in the reviews each recipe receives. Just a wonderful resource which makes my life a bit easier.
My favorite things to cook
I have a wicked sweet tooth, so my favorite things are brownies, pies, cookies, breads, etc. I guess if I could spend my life eating three meals a day of these things, it would make me pretty happy. And fat. That's why I try not to.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love making, and decorating, Christmas cookies with my kids and neighbors. I also love making Thanksgiving dinner for family and friends.
My cooking triumphs
A triumph can happen on any average day. When my husband AND my boys say they love what I've made for dinner and ask for more, that's a triumph for me. I try to bask in it!
My cooking tragedies
Nothing terribly tragic stands out, although tragedy to me is throwing away something that I've made that no one will finish up the leftovers of (I try to compost it if I can :).

Parmesan Potato Soup
Love this recipe! Like all truly great soups, it is easy and forgiving. I took the suggestion of many reviewers and used more potatoes than called for. I used 7 medium potatoes. I sauteed chopped veggies (celery, carrot, and minced garlic) in the oil. I didn't add sage at all but used the other suggested spices. Once the potatoes were added into the soup, I used my potato masher to gently break up some of my potato cubes into smaller pieces. This also thickened my soup. It made a lot...about 8 to 10 hearty servings. it is rich and flavorful and my teenage boys and husband loved it...they all ate a double serving. Great recipe.

Triple Berry Crisp
The only reason I'm giving this a 4 stars is that there is a lot of crust in this crisp! The flavor is perfect, the consistency is fantastic. If you are the kind of person who likes a lot of "crisp" with your berries, you'll love this. If you want less, my suggestion is to halve the crisp part of the recipe and use it only on top of the fruit (rather than as a crust and a topping). I made this tonight using 4 cups of fresh blackberries, and because I ran out of rolled oats, I had to substitute with crushed breakfast cereal (mixture of kinds). No matter...the flavor and texture was divine. This is a very forgiving recipe. I served it with vanilla ice cream AND whipped cream (oink!) and it really was a winner. I'll make it again but probably with less crust.

Graham Streusel Coffee Cake
This is crazy-good cake. Light, fluffy, flavorful and no hint of graham flavor (not that there's anything wrong with graham flavor!!!) once it's baked. My 13 year old baked this (with some over the shoulder supervision) and we were all impressed by the delicious results. It's called a coffee cake but is equally good as a dessert cake.
