Good Chocolate Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2010
This was hands-down the best pie I've ever made. I had a very large (probably 10 in) glass pie pan and I used the No roll pie crust II recipe for the crust. I baked the No roll crust for 10 minutes prior to filling. I used the whole filling recipe in this one (large) crust. The crust was wonderful and the filling for the pie was incredible! I didn't have walnuts in the cupboard, so I substituted chopped roasted pecans for the topping. I baked it about 5 minutes longer than it called for and added about 1 tsp of additional corn starch, as I was concerned about a runny filling with such a deep pie. The texture and consistency turned out perfectly, but did require refrigeration for the full 4 hours to "set" in the middle. I couldn't be happier to have this "go to" recipe in my kitchen. Thank you so much for sharing!!

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2010
Even more wonderful than it sounds - this is the only apple pie to even bother making! I also add cinnamon to the butter / sugar mixture and I continue cooking the syrup until it is very thick - almost caramel-like. What a rich, flavorful experience. My husband loves it. I feel like I've captured a tiny, precious piece of Americana right in my own kitchen. Thanks Grandma Ople.

Buttermilk Pancakes II

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2010
Delicious! I added about 1 tsp cinnamon to the dry ingredients and about 1 1/2 tsp vanilla to the wet adds. Rave reviews from my hubby & 4 kids. It would be ideal to have the wet ingredients at room temp so the butter doesn't re-solidify when added to the milk. Wonderful basic recipe that I'm sure I'll use for many years to come!

Whipped Butternut Squash

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2010
This was a super recipe with 2 modifications - real butter and a sprinkle of cinnamon. I cooked only one squash as directed. I used only 2 T of butter and 1/2 c sour cream since I only cooked one squash. Cinnamon sprinkled on top before serving was perfect. It was delicious!! I've never cooked butternut squash before and I'll be going to this recipe again. It was a hit.

Restaurant Style Egg Custard Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2010
This recipe is delightful! I added a few dashes of nutmeg for extra flavor. If it turned out "eggy" for some reviewers, maybe adding the hot milk very slowly to the egg mixture will prevent the egg from solidifying (cooking). It doesn't look done when you take it out of the oven, but it immediately "sets" when it cools off a little. My daughter and I just had a warm slice and it was wonderful!

These were just wonderful. It may not be in keeping with the recipe, but I sprinkled each with some garlic salt while they were cooking - delicious! This recipe is a keeper! Thanks for sharing.

Apple Pecan Cobbler

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2011
Great recipe! very easy! the only modification I made is I poured a little maple syrup over the apples (always my secret for apple pies!) and I added 1 tsp vanilla to the egg/milk mixture and about 1 tsp cinnamon to the flour mixture. I baked it in a deeper dish and the middle wasn't very done, so next time I'll use a more shallow pan. Thanks, Lori, for a wonderful go-to recipe!!

Mushroom Stuffed Beef Rouladen

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2010
Very nice recipe. The flavor of the gravy is very nice, but the flavor of the mushrooms was somewhat lost during the long baking process. Overall, this is a very good recipe and presents nicely with either buttered egg noodles or potatoes. One reviewer reported thickening the gravy on the stove top after cooking - that would be a nice idea for next time. Thanks for sharing!
