My boyfriend and I moved in together in 2007. I was an 18 year old beginning cook, with very little in the way of experience in the kitchen. I didn’t know how to make hard boiled eggs or even a baked potato. I discovered and a love for cooking. A few years later I discovered the Recipe Exchange (now the Recipe Buzz), and I became even more hooked. Other home cooks like me sharing tips, advice, recipes, etc. was just what I needed as a young cook. I have learned so much from everyone on this website, and I am now participating in the Allstar program because of these wonderful experiences.

How did you discover AR?

your recommendations are always appreciated. Cooking experience seems to be an unending learning curve, not matter how many things I can master and make it seems I always learn something new.

Hmm..I was google-ing cake recipes for 4H projects. Every cake I found came from here. From that day, I was hooked!

Kellie I think you're just as cute as a button and glad you found AR. It is nice to see all the younger crowd cooking and eating so well. When you cook your own food, you're eating so much better. I know I would have loved to have AR around when I was first starting out.

Hi, Kellie! I started on AR in a similar way. I moved out of my parents' house in 2010 when I got married. I didn't know how to cook anything that wasn't an omelet or a pancake (from the box!) When I got married, I panicked the day that we got back from the honeymoon, because I suddenly realized that I would be making dinners every night and couldn't cook! So, I scrambled to find some recipes online and kept coming to AR. After a week or two of grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup every day, I created a recipe box on AR and saved as many as possible. It has been so helpful! People actually say I am a good cook!

Hi Jacolyn, all I knew how to cook was pasta. Top ramen, tofu yakisoba, vegetarian spaghetti, and lemon shrimp pasta were about all I was familiar with lol.

When I was about 12 I was home alone and bored and I decided to make an angel food cake. Don't know what I did wrong, but I cooked it for about 3 hours and the middle was still not cooked through.
