Italian Bread II

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2003
This recipe is my family's favorite bread recipe. I am constantly asked to make it. I use it to make homemade hamburger buns, (just divide dough into 8 balls, you'll never want those wimpy, soft buns at the store again) or when guests are expected, I braid it. Yummy...there is never any left after a dinner! Thank you Verla

Mid-Summer Italian Bread Salad

Reviewed: May 28, 2006
This is a tasty salad. I made a vinegrette with some dijon, added arugula and spinach, and omitted the onion. Served with a small side of pasta, it's perfect for a summer meal.

Kentucky Hot Brown

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2004
Delicious sandwich! The adults liked the tomato and mushroom combination, and the kids loved the sandwich without. My picky 6 year old son raved about it and asked me to put it in our family recipe box (reserved only for the best recipes!) Thank you.

Carla's Fruit Dip

Reviewed: May 3, 2008
My friend brought some of this dip to work for a potluck, and I loved it so much, I went looking for the recipe. I followed the basic recipe, but added 4 oz of sour cream to cut some of the sweet. Tip: this is also a great dip for pretzels- the combination tastes like candy dipped pretzels.

Scottish Shortbread IV

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2004
I used this cookie for gift tins at Christmas, and am still getting requests for the recipe! Be sure you don't overbake, and just for a pretty effect, I sprinkle granulated sugar on the top before baking. Wonderful cookie and very easy to bake.

Best Tuna Melt (New Jersey Diner Style)

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2009
Kids loved it, I loved it. Thank you for the recipe. The only changes I made was to omit onions, and to add a couple of slices of avacado on top. Yum!

Chocolate Strawberry Banana Milkshake

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2003
My family really enjoyed this milkshake. It is filling enough to satisfy the kids after a day at the pool, or as an afterschool snack. I use ovaltine mix as it was what I usually have on hand.

I've made this many times since finding this recipe, and it is one of my family's favorites. I serve it with a good crusty baguette and some roasted green beans on the side. Yum!

like many other reviews, I used less mayo(1cup,light). I also used spicy brown mustard. We enjoy it on grilled chicken sandwiches with homemade buns. Also tasty as a dip for pretzels! Thank you, Nanci.

Tortillas I

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2002
These are fun and easy to make, and my family prefers them to store-bought. In a pinch the other day, I bought some tortillas, and my family all agreed thay my home-made ones were much better. Definitely a keeper!

This has become the most requested dish for me to bring to my daughter's Girl Scout parties...all the girls just love it (my family loves it as well). I don't change a thing. Thank you for the recipe.

Fish Tacos

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2005
My husband made this recipe for my birthday dinner the other night, and they were delicious. We used pollack as the fish, and served with corn and flour tortillas. The white sauce, while yummy, was too spicy for some guests, so next time we make it for others, we will halve the jalepeno. Thank you for the recipe.

Insanely Easy Vegetarian Chili

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2002
My husband and I are trying to improve our diet by cutting our meat intake in half, so I tried this recipe. Wow. This was great! I doubled the mushrooms (one can never have too many mushrooms!) but otherwise kept to the recipe. The spice was just right, and my husband and I loved it. Thank you.

Slow Cooker Italian Beef for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2009
Never having been in Chicago, and having never had an Italian Beef Sandwich, I have nothing to compare this to, but this recipe definitely makes an amazingly tasty sandwich! Following some suggestions, I used two packages of Italian Dressing mix, added some pepperoncinis, and used a chuck roast for easier shredding. My kids and I ate it on a hoagie roll with some of the "juice" to dip, but my husband broiled it with some sliced provolone, and claimed it awesome that way as well. Thanks for the recipe.

Irresistible Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2002
This is much better that my old recipe of soda bread. I made a few subistitutions, though. I used 1 cup whole wheat flour, 2 cups of regular flour, and used brown sugar instead of white. Very good, moist bread.

Irish Lamb Stew

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2002
Seeing that this recipe served 10, I halved for my family....I won't do that again...they all wanted more! I substituted beer (Killians) for the wine, and left out the second addition of onions (kids won't touch if they see onions). A delicious stew! Definitely a keeper. Very good with Irish soda bread.
