Chocolate Strawberry Banana Milkshake

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2003
My family really enjoyed this milkshake. It is filling enough to satisfy the kids after a day at the pool, or as an afterschool snack. I use ovaltine mix as it was what I usually have on hand.

Perogies

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2001
This was a great recipie. My kids and family love the pototo version and have asked for it several times since I first made it. It is time consuming though. I use peppered bacon, and fry the boiled perogies in the bacon grease. My only problem was there wasn't enough dough. I had to double that part of the recipie. My husband took some to work, and a coworker offered to pay me to make some for him! Thank you, Doris

Old-Fashioned Onion Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2001
I think this recipie needs beef broth instead of chicken broth to give it a richer taste.

Italian Bread II

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2003
This recipe is my family's favorite bread recipe. I am constantly asked to make it. I use it to make homemade hamburger buns, (just divide dough into 8 balls, you'll never want those wimpy, soft buns at the store again) or when guests are expected, I braid it. Yummy...there is never any left after a dinner! Thank you Verla

Pecan Pancakes with Spiced Syrup

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2003
I made these in jars as gifts for all my family and friends at Christmas, and they all loved them. Later, I gave a batch as a wedding gift, and the groom told a friend it was his favorite gift. Very tasty!

Lola's Horchata

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2010
I've spent most my life in Arizona, and horchata is so good on a hot day. This recipe is tasty and so easy! I've made it as written (make sure you use whole milk for best flavor), and have also made it with vanilla soy milk (VERY yummy!). I add the cinnamon to the rice before soaking...it seams to incorporate into the liquid better that way, instead of floating on the top. I don't know how well this keeps in the refrigerator, because there's never any left over! Thank you Lola for the recipe.

Chicken Stuff

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2001
This was a very tasty dish. My children usually moan and groan when I make chicken (again?!), but they cleaned their plates and asked for seconds when I made this!

Chex® Apple Pie Snack Mix

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2011
Very tasty...my family devoured it while watching the game and awaiting Thanksgiving dinner. One note for those who have problem melting the white chips in the microwave...use a double boiler instead. Bring water to a boil over medium heat, add the top pot, making sure the water doesn't touch the top pot. Add chips and shortening, stirring constantly. It will be melted and creamy in about 5 minutes this way without seizing up.

Slovak Sauerkraut Christmas Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2010
This is absolutely delicious...so full of flavor! I'm living in the Czech Republic at the moment, and it tastes just like the soup served in my favorite local restaurant. The only change I made was to substitute cream for sour cream, as it was what I had on hand. Thank you for the recipe.

Tortillas I

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2002
These are fun and easy to make, and my family prefers them to store-bought. In a pinch the other day, I bought some tortillas, and my family all agreed thay my home-made ones were much better. Definitely a keeper!

Irish Lamb Stew

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2002
Seeing that this recipe served 10, I halved for my family....I won't do that again...they all wanted more! I substituted beer (Killians) for the wine, and left out the second addition of onions (kids won't touch if they see onions). A delicious stew! Definitely a keeper. Very good with Irish soda bread.

Chai Tea Mix

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2004
This tastes wonderful. The cardamom was a little expensive, but well worth the price. I gave this in gift baskets as something a little different from the usual jams or cookies and everyone couldn't wait to try it. I skipped the dry milk (don't like the taste)and added 1/4 tsp pepper. In the directions I gave to people, I told them to combine 1 cup of milk and 1 cup of water, heat, and stir in 3 tbsp of the mix. Thank you for the recipe!

Irresistible Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2002
This is much better that my old recipe of soda bread. I made a few subistitutions, though. I used 1 cup whole wheat flour, 2 cups of regular flour, and used brown sugar instead of white. Very good, moist bread.

Six Can Chicken Tortilla Soup

A very good soup. I topped our soup with a little sour cream along with the chips and cheese. My husband even ate it the next day, and he doesn't usually like leftovers.

Easy Risotto-Style Rice

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2013
This recipe needs a stove temperature. I cooked it on medium high, and it was still a little crunchy after the three and a half cups of broth. The only change I made was to use vegetable broth in place of the chicken. Overall, a tasty recipe, but will try it with more liquid or a different temp.

I've made this many times since finding this recipe, and it is one of my family's favorites. I serve it with a good crusty baguette and some roasted green beans on the side. Yum!

Carla's Fruit Dip

Reviewed: May 3, 2008
My friend brought some of this dip to work for a potluck, and I loved it so much, I went looking for the recipe. I followed the basic recipe, but added 4 oz of sour cream to cut some of the sweet. Tip: this is also a great dip for pretzels- the combination tastes like candy dipped pretzels.

Mid-Summer Italian Bread Salad

Reviewed: May 28, 2006
This is a tasty salad. I made a vinegrette with some dijon, added arugula and spinach, and omitted the onion. Served with a small side of pasta, it's perfect for a summer meal.
