Chex® Apple Pie Snack Mix

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2011
Very tasty...my family devoured it while watching the game and awaiting Thanksgiving dinner. One note for those who have problem melting the white chips in the microwave...use a double boiler instead. Bring water to a boil over medium heat, add the top pot, making sure the water doesn't touch the top pot. Add chips and shortening, stirring constantly. It will be melted and creamy in about 5 minutes this way without seizing up.

Lola's Horchata

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2010
I've spent most my life in Arizona, and horchata is so good on a hot day. This recipe is tasty and so easy! I've made it as written (make sure you use whole milk for best flavor), and have also made it with vanilla soy milk (VERY yummy!). I add the cinnamon to the rice before soaking...it seams to incorporate into the liquid better that way, instead of floating on the top. I don't know how well this keeps in the refrigerator, because there's never any left over! Thank you Lola for the recipe.

Slovak Sauerkraut Christmas Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2010
This is absolutely delicious...so full of flavor! I'm living in the Czech Republic at the moment, and it tastes just like the soup served in my favorite local restaurant. The only change I made was to substitute cream for sour cream, as it was what I had on hand. Thank you for the recipe.

Slow Cooker Italian Beef for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2009
Never having been in Chicago, and having never had an Italian Beef Sandwich, I have nothing to compare this to, but this recipe definitely makes an amazingly tasty sandwich! Following some suggestions, I used two packages of Italian Dressing mix, added some pepperoncinis, and used a chuck roast for easier shredding. My kids and I ate it on a hoagie roll with some of the "juice" to dip, but my husband broiled it with some sliced provolone, and claimed it awesome that way as well. Thanks for the recipe.

This has become the most requested dish for me to bring to my daughter's Girl Scout parties...all the girls just love it (my family loves it as well). I don't change a thing. Thank you for the recipe.

Best Tuna Melt (New Jersey Diner Style)

Kids loved it, I loved it. Thank you for the recipe. The only changes I made was to omit onions, and to add a couple of slices of avacado on top. Yum!

Carla's Fruit Dip

Reviewed: May 3, 2008
My friend brought some of this dip to work for a potluck, and I loved it so much, I went looking for the recipe. I followed the basic recipe, but added 4 oz of sour cream to cut some of the sweet. Tip: this is also a great dip for pretzels- the combination tastes like candy dipped pretzels.

Mid-Summer Italian Bread Salad

Reviewed: May 28, 2006
This is a tasty salad. I made a vinegrette with some dijon, added arugula and spinach, and omitted the onion. Served with a small side of pasta, it's perfect for a summer meal.

Fish Tacos

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2005
My husband made this recipe for my birthday dinner the other night, and they were delicious. We used pollack as the fish, and served with corn and flour tortillas. The white sauce, while yummy, was too spicy for some guests, so next time we make it for others, we will halve the jalepeno. Thank you for the recipe.

Chai Tea Mix

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2004
This tastes wonderful. The cardamom was a little expensive, but well worth the price. I gave this in gift baskets as something a little different from the usual jams or cookies and everyone couldn't wait to try it. I skipped the dry milk (don't like the taste)and added 1/4 tsp pepper. In the directions I gave to people, I told them to combine 1 cup of milk and 1 cup of water, heat, and stir in 3 tbsp of the mix. Thank you for the recipe!

While I just thought this tasted like spiced Tang, my kids loved it. They serve it to all their friends who come over, and tell them it's a secret recipe. All the kids beg me to give their parents the "secret". Thank you for the recipe.

Old English Cookies

This cookie got mixed ratings. My husband and I enjoyed it, but the younger kids didn't. It tasted like a soft gingerbread cookie, with the coffee as an undertone. Thank you for the recipe.

Asiago Hash Browns

This was a tasty dish! The only thing I would do different is saute the onions before mixing in with the rest of the ingredients. The crunchiness of the onion didn't mix well with the softer potatoes. Thank you for the recipe!

Polish Style Lasagna

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2004
This recipe has potential. I added 1/2 pound bacon, crumbled, and about 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese to the potato mixture. My only complaint is that the top layer of noodles were too hard. A nice, quick replacement for perogies.

Delicious sandwich! The adults liked the tomato and mushroom combination, and the kids loved the sandwich without. My picky 6 year old son raved about it and asked me to put it in our family recipe box (reserved only for the best recipes!) Thank you.

I used this cookie for gift tins at Christmas, and am still getting requests for the recipe! Be sure you don't overbake, and just for a pretty effect, I sprinkle granulated sugar on the top before baking. Wonderful cookie and very easy to bake.
